I heard Pisgah has grown since the reclassification.

4 2A Schools would jump to 3A

#29 Pisgah  2022(214), 2023(252)

#33 Raleigh  2022(211), 2023(242)

#38 Collins 2022(296), 2023(226)

#40 Scott Central 2022(186), 2023(223)

2A

#1 St Andrew's 2022(221), 2023(??)

St Andrew's,  St Stanislaus, OLA, St Patrick do not report #'s to MDE.

Caution that St Andrew's could go to 3A and not Scott Central.

Last week Georgia's association released prelimnary enrolment nubmers going back to 6A being their largest class after 7A being the largest class for a couple of cycles. This apparently was passed in 2022 but will take effect starting with 2024-25 cycle. Reasons given were to create larger regions and cut down on travel.

Granted they are a much larger state with many more schools but their 6A will have 65 schools. They use a 3.0 multiplier to add for students who are considered to be out of their zone so some numbers look strange, but a quick examination of the FTE for 6A has Brookwood in Gwinnett County with 3880 with the smallest 6A being 2084 in Alpharetta High. I wonder if their assocation was concerned about reducing excitement, or if Alpharetta High will have a fit because they will be in a class with a much larger school on top, as some of the old 6A apparently were upset about being with Tupelo and Desoto Central having so many more students.

Of course I'm the jerk who regularly bashed 7 classes and will because we all know it was largely done to make more $$ and to appease a small number of coaches, sold under the guise it was more equitable for the students while basically ignoring the association benefits the most.

I really am curious to see if people are happy with the 7 classes if they think about it. 6 was plenty for a state our size and I would guess 5 would still be okay with consolidations inevitably on the horizon.

I would like to go back to 6 classes with 12 regions and top 3 qualify for playoffs. Top 4 gets buys.

i saw that Myrtle hosted and had 1 win on the year.

Region 2 #2 won the only game that counted to get the 2 seed. One of those regions with 2 non football playing schools out of 6 total. That's what happens when 1A goes to 8 regions instead of 4 x 9 or 10 for football.

I think it'll stay this way forever. there will continue to be a few random enrollment peaks and drops which will cause schools to change classifications but not many.

Based on 2023 numbers shake up coming between 1A, 2A, 3A with 20 schools changing classes according to 8th-10th grade numbers. Not unusual I think just who may go up or down might surprise some.

7A #24 960

6A #1 944

6A #24 699

5A #1 690

5A #24 501

4A #1 499

4A #40 343

3A #1 342

3A #41 222

2A #1 221

2A #40 157

1A #1 156

I will say if JPS sends all of Wingfield students to Forest Hill as rumored then Forest Hill will be 7A. One school will drop from 7A to 6A , 6A to 5A, 5A to 4A replacing Forest Hill. One will go up from 3A to 4A. The rest will be split 3A to 1A. So it work itself out but there will be movement on that point. That's pending a December 5th meeting and finalizing of a JPS plan to consolidate or close 16 schools including Wingfield and it's 2 middle schools. I think 1 middle school will stay open.

Was this 10-12? or 9-12? Because it can't be 9-12

9-11, that was one of the changes proposed by if I remember correctly someone saying District 5 area(East Central area schools) passed thru the process. 9-11 is the grades MHSAA now counts for reclassification.
