Division clinching win. It turned out like I hoped, with the defense really coming up big for O.S. after the first early TD. Greyhound offense seemed to play a little conservative or safe when they got the lead. This defense could give them a chance in the playoffs, and I would like to know who their likely opponents might be. Assuming that district 3 hasn’t completely shaken out yet?

The bottom seeds of region 3 are confusing right now. I'd assume you guys probably will play either NWR, Pearl, or Petal since i think meridian will probably be the 3 seed if they beat Pearl. If I'm not mistaken the 5-7a scenarios should be coming out soon.

The winner of Meridian and Pearl will be the 3 seed and loser more than likely the 4 seed.

I watched the live stream and wasn't very impressed with either team offensively.

The Gulfport QB doesn't see the field well and was fortunate to not have thrown four interceptions (including an additional pick six in the first half).  Conversely, the OS QB Berglind is limited in throwing downfield and appears to offer little more than the dreaded game manager designation.  He wasn't exactly complimented by the dropped balls and the OS receivers blocked poorly in the perimeter running game with the Gulfport secondary overwhelming them for much of the night.  Gulfport's front four also won the line of scrimmage too often, stonewalling the inside rush attempts.

The good news for OS is they have a defense which will mostly allow them to be competitive against better 7A teams.  But in today's offensive centric football, the offense is more than likely going to have to carry the load at a point in the postseason and I don't know if it's capable.

Good assessment.  I don’t think anyone can disagree.

The Ocean Springs run game was expected to carry the offense as they waited on the QB to kick in, and it’s been pretty consistent. Super soph Whitehead has returned, and improves every game, but teams can scheme the run to an extent. First round or maybe two, the QB and passing game might be sufficient with the defense causing turnovers and field position. But, no question it will be the defense that wins playoff games, if they can limit teams to three TDs. Not sure if they can do that when the O.G.s and Brandon s show up. Another south state appearance will be a plus.

OS defense has been a strength of this team for the last three years for sure, so that's nothing new. OS offense was missing a key offensive lineman. 6'7" 320lb left tackle, sophomore back up played a great game against a tough defense, but no doubt that's gonna effect the running game some. I think 30-7 is pretty dominate considering some major contributors on both sides of the ball played less minutes because of the flu or sat out altogether. As far as the OS QB, he definitely didn't have his best game but he has played extremely well this season, especially considering he's never started a game before his senior year. A high school QB with 1500yds passing, 180yds/game, 70% completion with only 2 INTS  is a little better than a game manager in my opinion. The running game also averages 180yds per game against some strong competition . Some of his biggest games this season in passing  has come against the stronger opponents they've played. This offense has some really good athletes at the skill positions and attacks defenses from everywhere until they find the weak link. The defense will definitely keep them in games but as always it will come down to turnovers against the top teams in the playoffs.
