maroontide06
This annual heavyweight bout kicks off next Friday. Picayune managed to win this game last year and Gulfport managed to win the 7A State Title. This early in the season a game like this could go either way. Share your thoughts on this one. coastfootballfanman
Man. What a game this will be! Honestly sort of sad I will not be able to make this one due to going to see my nephew kick his season off at Pass. I believe Gulfport will win this one. Picayune graduated a pretty good bit of defensive production and some really good linemen on offense. I think Gulfport just has too many horses right now and has a ton of confidence riding into this game. I think Picayune's style of play will make this a great game as always and I would not be shocked if Picayune wins it. However, I see Gulfport winning in a 35-28 type of game where it is a battle for 4 quarters. Both teams are testing themselves early which is a good thing. We get Jackson Academy at home the following week. I'm not as concerned with the wins and losses thing as long as Picayune gets better because these are the type of games teams should schedule if they want to do well in the postseason. Remember it's just 11 vs 11 for 48 minutes, and if you get lucky you might get some free extra football. I'm not opposed to that either LOL. maroontide06
Also, whatever roster turnover there may be for either team in this game, I don't think it will play as big of a factor as it may seem. Both of these teams generally reload which is a good thing. Picayune also isn't playing this game with a half-empty cupboard either. This game feels like it may boil down to an X-factor and if that X-factor can be successful. Pay attention to the letter X LOL.

I do not think the cupboard is half empty for either team, but at this early stage of the season, it is going to take a few games to get into form. To me, Picayune probably has the upper hand offensively with their horses back and some of the OL while Gulfport is having to replace a really, really good Quarterback and Running back. Defensively, Gulfport returns a great bit of talent while Picayune will be breaking in some new guys. Like you said, most of the time they both just reload. Letter X will definitely be key for Picayune to have success.

But to hear Coach Stogner on WXXV 25 teams in 25 days preview he was trying to act as if Picayune was kind of going to be rebuilding this season. Everyone knows Picayune reloads and not rebuilds. ScaryTerry
Think Gulfport will be pretty tough this season. They’re talented at wr and on the DL. Does anyone know where the Marks kid from Picayune came from? Is this his 1st year playing? His recruiting blew up out of nowhere.
Batman3k
I thought Gulfport lost a lot from last year's team? This game should favor Picayune again
