Rebel Bert
According to one popular Facebook page the 1.5 multiplier will be enforced on the upcoming 2027-29 Reclassification period coming this fall for private schools playing in MHSAA.

If St Andrew's has 200 students for reclassification their official number is 300.

Hogwash. The only schools where a double multiplier is in effect is for those schools with only one gender - SSC, OLA, and Piney Woods. There has never been a 1.5 in Mississippi. coastfootballfanman
I imagine we will see some schools jump over to MAIS because of this.

MSSportsGuy
I don't think this is a great decision and may wind up having some schools leave for the MAIS. When the association decided schools along the river couldn't let non-MS resident athletes participate several parochial schools left. This may cause a similar defection. The Booneville fan base was very vocal on FB about Presbyterian Christian winning the 3A baseball championship over them. Neaves is from that area and probably heard a good bit of chatter about it from old friends. These decisions to me generally seems short sighted and knee jerk reactions to a small number of coaches, principals, and parents.

The multiplier puts these small private schools that have been in the MHSAA a long time at a disadvantage. Thankfully St. Al got out a while ago, but like @coastfootballfanmansaid, you might see them jump to MAIS because of this. But who honestly asked for this? Washed_Up_Athlete
It is amusing that, for years, the chatter was that MAIS teams would be unable to compete with MHSAA teams. Now that they've been successful, the chatter is that they're too good to compete with schools of the same size.

Isn't it more the fact that they can get athletes from a larger extended area to come to school at said recruiting school?
Guntriple
Definitely will be the most interesting reclassification in a while. Almost every other state has a multiplier for private schools. We were one of the few without it. I think 1.5 is a little high but a 1.3 atleast like Alabama is needed.

Didn't we just witness Greenville Christian beat Oak Grove a few years ago? We play Jackson Academy this year at home Week 2 and I expect that to be a dog fight. These private schools from the MAIS are not too good to compete with schools from the MHSAA. The larger classification schools in the MHSAA have numbers and the larger classification MAIS schools have Benjamins. Now if you take a larger MAIS school and put them up against a small MHSAA school, there's no advantage for the MHSAA school. With these larger MAIS schools like MRA, you're not going to beat them via the pocketbook, but you can beat them with size, athleticism, and depth.
