I am a little surprised to see you have Hattiesburg and West Jones over Picayune. Not surprised that one of them is in your top 2. I would think you had Picayune in there and Hattiesburg or West Jones being left out.

I think it's that "what have you done for me lately" philosophy, but as what I've brought up before it's the cannibalization factor.  But it's also very possible to have a Hattiesburg/West Jones South State matchup.  I do think Picayune will be better this fall, but again that means absolutely nothing at this point.  They've got to get hot and have some cohesion as well.  I personally want to see what happens this time around when Picayune runs into a better team in the postseason because frankly, it's coming.  Does Picayune have the ability to beat a better team when they matchup with them?  Sure, they have that ability but can they bring that to fruition?  Those questions will be answered in due time.

Region 4 6a is going to be more interesting this yr. Picayune wont fall off at all, but how will Goula be without Sims on the sidelines for the 1st time in 15yrs and is PRC ready to be a serious threat to possibly get a home playoff game? Only question in Region 3 6a  will Hattiesburg or West Jones be the region winner. BTW Region 4 winner gets homefield advantage all the way to south state this yr.

Picayune will be tough as always but they lost a pretty good bit up front on both sides of the ball to graduation and I heard another has moved on to PRC. Just basing off what I know today, I would put them at 3. Right there with a chance to win the south.

Pascagoula graduated a ton of talent. The cupboard will not be bare, but it is hard to see them replicating their run in region last year. I expect them to firmly be a playoff team but I do not think I see them as a threat past the first round at the current moment. New coach or not, it’s hard to replace all that they lost. I think PRC could be the surprise in the region. If they can get better on defense I like their chances. Gautier was real young and brings back basically everything from a team that was a few plays away from being the 3 seed so they could be a team to watch. Hancock lost some talent, especially at quarterback. It will be interesting to see how they look in spring.

As far as the south goes :

7A OG and Gulfport

6A Hattiesburg and Picayune

5A Laurel and Sumrall

4A Columbia and Poplarville

Thoughts . Gulfport will be right back in the mix they learned how to win.

Hattiesburg , WJ and Picayune will be right there toghether. I think Hatt is the favorite to win the state  title in my book.

Laurel and Sumrall. I can't stop laughing. Brookhaven graduated 90% of their starteres.
