Based on the enrollment of the last school to make it into 7A, OG’s current student population would have to be nearly cut in half for OG to drop into 6A. They’re currently averaging mid-400s per class. Ain’t no way they’ll lose overall when they actually grew over the last 2 years and went from like #10 to #6 in size during that time. The closest schools to them are: Sumrall, Purvis, Columbia, Petal, and Hattiesburg HS on the public side and Columbia Academy, PCS, Lamar Christian and Sacred Heart on the private school side. Any football athletes looking at that list are gonna be hard pressed to come up with a legit reason that OG isn’t the best opportunity available right now with regard to coaching and being seen for recruitment at the next level. Columbia would be the next best major competitor there - but one of the best defensive guys Columbia had in the class of 2026 (McDaniel) transferred to OG for his junior and senior years and started for OG. So it doesn’t look like the strongest athletes are leaving OG. Looks like they’re coming in. And academically speaking, OG is pretty solid. It was someone else posting that. I went back and looked at #'s for 2023-24 posted on MDE. I knew this person had to be talking about Meridian.
