CFB Week 10

Was at the game in Fayetteville tonight. Let me start by saying Arkansas probably should’ve won that game by multiple scores and their total self destruction via penalty single handedly kept State in the game. State was awful in the first half and really bad defensively in the 3rd quarter, combined with some questionable decisions by Lebby… It was looking bleak there for most of the day.

But man… If there’s one thing you gotta give this team credit for, it’s that they don’t lay down at any point. Hasn’t happened a single time in the Lebby tenure even when many suspected they would, especially last year and occasionally after a devastating loss this year. They kept playing, and it finally paid off.

State does not win without Kamario Taylor’s third quarter…. They also do not win without Blake Shapen’s fourth quarter. Anthony Evans had a terrible drop leading to an INT on Shapen’s first drive back after the injury…. And then he made the game winning play on a 4th down, no less.

That was a wild game, but it felt awesome to be on the right side of it for once. Go Dogs!

Side bar…. Arkansas has a nice stadium, not that great of an atmosphere, but to be fair their fans were admittedly checked out on this season by now. The highlight of the pregame for me was they brought the live hog mascot out for a loop on the field in a flatbed trailer being pulled by a tractor. I will hear no slander from Arkansas people on State being a redneck school after I witnessed that. lol.

Dang right about them being resilient. May not mean much nowadays but If Lebby builds this program into a contender it will be a game changer. Just look at Georgia, if you’re not up by 10 at half then go ahead and mark it down as a loss.

The outcomes haven’t been joyful, but that’s something good take away from this year and last year

Which means we need stability at State.
Lebby has a good thing going and we need to ride this wave for a while longer.

Georgia good but they are not invincible either.

They have been vulnerable all year.

We just need to find a way win it next week.

I don’t expect State to win but you never know with how shaky UGA has been away from Athens this year.

I absolutely think they are capable of going into Columbia and beating a banged up Mizzou in two weeks.

As we sit here today I’m probably leaning OM in the Egg Bowl still but State is 100% capable of winning that one at home. Would not be anywhere close to the biggest upset in series history.

Down goes the Freeze. Not a fan of this decision. He was 1 decent offensive coordinator and a Qb from being a top 20 team. Should’ve waited another year to do it.

They must already have someone in mind since they decided to do it in this years market

The vogue thing to do these days is to fire the coach mid season. It is an utterly stupid way to run a football program. I did not like it when State did it two years ago. Let the season finish out and then make a decision. And Coaching stability is vitally important to a college football program. Lebby is only two years in and making good progress and yet some of our own stupid fans were clamoring for a change over the last two weeks because we lost two gut wrenching games. I get it that emotions come into play.

But only a one fourth brain person could not conclude that State is on the way to success.
Seldom does it come instantaneously generally it comes in increments.
Let’s look around the conference. Smart and Kiffin have been at their respective jobs for a while now = success.

Heupel, Sark have been doing their thing for several years = success.

Auburn, Florida, LSU changing coaches frequently is causing instability and their success is diminishing or has already diminished.

A&M & Bama have relatively new coaches but they both came into good situations and are continuing to have success.
Lea at Vandy is in his fifth season = success.
Stoops at KY has struggled some last year and this year but they came up with a big road win last night. KY has done the right thing by riding with him through the low points.
Arkansas-they have just not done a good job of hiring the right HC.
Beamer at SC has had mixed success but I think they will do the smart thing and keep him.

Just an observation from me. Frequently changing HC generally leads to diminished results over a period of time.

First CFPC rankings coming out this week, I suspect it will closely reflect the AP/Coaches polls... Ole Miss is #7 in both of those and will be 6,7,8 in the CFCP rankings I'm guessing.

It was a dang near perfect weekend for Ole Miss fans. Ole Miss won again, several teams right behind them in playoff consideration lost which opens the door for 1 more loss doesn't mean getting left out of the playoffs. Georgia keeps winning to help that 1 (so far?) loss not look bad and Oklahoma beat playoff contender Tennessee giving Ole Miss a signature when while being in discussion in playoff rankings.

Kudos to Lebby and State for getting that SEC win "monkey off their back". Lebby has done a really good job this year, even though the overall record doesn't reflect it... we'll see how this confidence booster plays out the next three weeks.

Guess Lebby was having a hard time calling plays for Kamario. Hope he doesn’t get poached by a bigger program in the offseason. Excited to see the offense be built around him next year

That typically happens with a freshman. Taylor is going to be a star but right now probably only knows  30-40 percent of the playbook, so they have to have a totally different game plan with him. He is obviously good in the run game and hit the big TD pass but missed on the rest. State doesn't win without his two TD drives, but they also don't win without Shapen returning. He is not going anywhere, will be a two or three year starter at State.

There was a world where there ended up being a ton of 10-2 SEC teams that could make OM’s playoff hopes questionable even at 10-2… that kinda went out the window on Saturday.

OM will be in the playoff barring a surprise 0-2 stretch against UF and State.

You’re right. It worked out well for State. I’d bet Lebby adds more to the script for Kamario this week. Having to prepare for 2 different styles of offense can be stressful for defenses, especially when you’re not even certain Kamario will play through a whole drive. We’ll see what Kirby says in the presser about it

Pressing the reset button every 2 years is the quickest way to hit rock bottom for a program. I mean just look at what States done. Floridas guilty of it too and look how underwhelming they’ve been the past decade. I’m not gonna say Hugh did a good job at Auburn. But he brought in a ridiculous amount of talent and could be 7-1 if the ball rolled his way a little in these close games. It’s not like it’s year 5 and they still haven’t got the ball rolling.
