Dawg83
Been rumored for a few days but official now. Huge move in college baseball. Saban to the Dolphins kind of move. I don’t know if it works out for him in the pro’s or not. He’s been a great coach obviously, but his style ain’t for everybody and an MLB clubhouse is different from a college locker room. We shall see. If this does go the way of Saban and the Dolphins…. He will have his pick of college jobs in a few years,

Bulldogs4
I know he was successful at Tennessee but I for one am glad he is gone from the SEC. His arrogance and overboard cockiness always rubbed me the wrong way. How Tennessee fares going forward will be interesting to follow. I think they will be back to the bottom half of the conference in baseball.
Dawg83
Tennessee was one of the bottom 2 or 3 jobs in the league before Vitello. He has probably raised their floor to the point where the next guy won’t have them at the bottom of the heap. But it’s going to be almost impossible for their next coach to match his success based off historical precedent. Programs almost always regress some after they lose their most successful coach,
maroontide06
O'Sullivan also took a leave of absence yesterday as well.
pancho
I have been surprised O'Sullivan made it past the last couple years.........
hasbeen67
All I see on O'Sullivan is "family and personal matters". What's up with that? As for Vitello, I'm not sure how his personality will play with major leaguers. Edited October 23, 2025 by hasbeen67

Don't know, but it doesn't sound like it's a short term problem. You're probably going to have interim baseball coaches at Tennessee and Florida this year. Bulldogs4
The door opens a bit wider for State. But of course LSU, Arky, A&M & TX and others are going to be strong. While I see us being more successful this year, I hope fans will have a bit of patience and realize that no matter how good a coach, the first year always has a learning curve and there will be some ups and DOWNS during the season. And not to jump off a cliff if things go sideways for a week or two during the season.

Dawg83
Seems obvious to me Vitello and O’Sullivan both were just scared of O’Connor coming into the league***
