Stringer @ Taylorsville

Stringer (4-1) travels to Taylorsville (1-4) this coming Friday for a huge 1A south matchup to open district play. I know people have been pretty critical of Taylorsville through the first 5 games, but this is a game where they could completely turn their season around if they can pull out a win. Records don’t really matter as much as this point. Thoughts on this matchup?

Some coaches are better at coaching. I will go with Stringer in a close one. But if they can't  stop the pass it will be a long game. Taylorsville pulls it out in that case.

Stringer’s secondary has had some problems this year to say the least. They do well in run stop and pass rush isn’t bad, but stopping the pass is their biggest weakness by far. It has gotten a little better as the season has progressed, but I think Taylorsville may have some chunk plays that keep them in the game and possibly help them win.

The more I consider this game, the more I tend to lean towards Tville winning this game at home. And for two reasons… one reason, Tville will be at home. And the other reason, Tville has played a much much tougher schedule than Stringer. I expect a low scoring game either way.

I think for Stringer to go into Taylorsville and come out victorious they will have to set the tone early. They did that last year and got up 2 TD’s at one point, but inexperience caught up with them and they let it slip away in the 4th quarter. This year I believe Stringer is much more experienced as far as closing out games and knowing how to win as they were this time last season. I think that’s why Brady made their non district schedule a little on the weaker side because I think the most important part this season for them is learning how to win. Nevertheless as long as Stringer plays well defensively it should be a competitive game, but it’s hard for me to make a definite pick because of how well both teams match up. Something to watch is whether Taylorsville’s weakness which is passing offense can outweigh Stringer’s weakness which is the defensive secondary. I am also curious to see how Stringer’s offense that’s averaging almost 40 PPG matches up against a pretty solid Taylorsville defense.

Tville’s issue is offense and depth. North Forrest was a lot like Tville, they lack depth. I don’t know if that is an issue for stringer or not, but Tville has a really good defense. They just get worn down in the 2nd half of their games. I think this will be a close game, but I have no clue who wins. If the game was at stringer I would probably go with stringer.

If the officials call offsides on Stringer 3 straight times on the kick off Taylorsville has a chance to start at the Stringer 30 on the return.

Not a great first half for Stringer. They own Time of Possession by half the game and only capitalize once. Stringer had 3 drives. 1st drive TD. 2nd drive Pick 6 on 4th and long on Taylorsville’s side of the field with 50 seconds left until half. Then they ran the clock out. Taylorsville went 3 and out to start then had a long drive to respond to Stringer’s TD with one of their own. It’s still anybody’s game, but if Stringer doesn’t make some halftime adjustments Taylorsville might win this game by 2 TD’s or more.

Props to Taylorsville. They completely outplayed Stringer tonight and changed their whole season. I think they have a good chance of winning out and going 6-4. If they can beat Lumberton for district the path to South State is very doable.

Stringer on the other hand has a lot of work to do. Embarrassing performance for them is putting it lightly. Probably will be looking at 3rd in district if they don’t improve from tonight.

Taylorsville ain't got no passing game or offense much but the defense good  Brady too good for us this year they gone win by 14

One thing I guess you have forgotten about Taylorsville is when our backs are against the walls we are extremely dangerous. Told you all give Agee time and this team will improve.

Stringer is really good and plays physical. However Agee team has changed course of just spreading people out and they too are playing physical. That o-line is showing what they can do. Taylorsville has to be on the conversation in 1A south.

Tville and Lumberton are definitely the two favorites in the south. If they have adjusted their offense to be more power oriented that’s a good move, IMO.

They definitely have. I don’t know if they threw the ball more than 5 times in the second half, and they only threw screens when they did throw. They gashed Stringer all night on the ground and read every offensive play they tried to run like a book, yet there were absolutely no coaching adjustments made. As someone who has followed Stringer this year, it was a massive disappointment to see them lay down and lose the way they did. Taylorsville was the better team though, and they will be dangerous in 1A south for sure. I expect them to beat Lumberton and win the district. As long as they do win the district, they will have a very easy side of the bracket. Only team that could even possibly compete with them until South State are one of the Winston County teams (Noxapater, NW) which they wouldn’t see until 3rd round at home. Losing their district and getting 2nd would send them to Simmons 2nd round. Simmons is still good, but they won’t be the team they were last season due to only returning 4 total starters on both sides of the ball. I definitely was impressed by Taylorsville though and think they have a real shot at another state championship appearance if they continue to build on the big win.

I don’t see anybody beating Calhoun city.

Yeah no shot anyone does. They may be as dominant in 1A as Heidelberg will be in 2A. Just for example they beat Hamilton 50-15 last night. Hamilton has a 1 point win over Noxapater and a 12 point win over Nanih Waiya, and those teams are supposed to be 2 of the better teams in 1A. 1A south will be competitive, but the state championship itself is Calhoun City’s to lose.
