Aug 29 - Mize @ Taylorsville

I think Taylorsville puts up a fight and makes it respectable especially with it being at their home field, but I think Mize stays in control of this game pretty similar to last year. It will be a 4 quarter game that could be competitive, but Mize should lead the way if they play like they’re capable.

I’m not convinced at that especially with Mize going to the spread.

It’s not like we are going to the air raid or anything. We still going to be a run first team. We don’t have the same style players currently that we had the last 4-5 years. The double wing was ideal for us then based off of our roster, but we knew our junior class was different and a little more athletic than what we usually have. The plan has always been when that group made it to the 11th grade to go to a spread. But we still going to run the ball the majority of the time. Personally I’m going to miss the double wing, it’s my favorite offense.

I have not seen Mize run spread in person yet, but from what I saw on Youtube they looked like they didn’t have much trouble moving the ball against JDC in their spring game. On the other hand, Taylorsville struggled to move the ball against both West Marion and Raymond respectively. There’s a lot of inexperience on that side of the ball for them, and it showed. Unless they have taken massive jumps over the summer, I think they struggle to score offensively in their first 4 games with the caliber of defenses they are facing each week. Coach Agee seems to have everyone fired up and excited for Taylorsville football again, and I think that will be evident for the first quarter or two of this game, but it will be short lived. I still think Mize by 2-3 TD’s as of now.

I wouldn’t put too much stock in Tville’s spring game. They had barely had their OC hired by time that game was played. They will be fine. They may take some lumps early on because Agee did put some tough teams on their schedule, but that should pay off for them by time district play comes around

I know it’s just 7 on 7 but Agee has those guys competing at a high level. Yes they struggled with spring football without all the coaches. They will be competitive each night. They held their own with joint practices this summer also.

Don’t know much about Agee, but I do agree from what I can tell that he will have his team ready to compete every Friday night. I know you can’t really tell much off of spring ball a lot of times, and I definitely expect y’all to be much improved from then and make a run in 1A. Non district definitely will be tough, but that’s by design i’m sure.

We could hired a corpse and be better than that staff last year them was the worse I ever seen here.  I don't think our offense gone be good to start with cause lost all our playmakers but defense gone be ok

Returned almost the entire offensive line though.

O-Line was their weakest link last season in my opinion. Maybe they’ve improved through fall and summer camp though.

I think their OL was just a victim of not having any depth, which could be the case again this season. They were wore down in the 2nd half of alot of games simply from not having any depth.

Fair point. I don’t think it will matter as much in 1A because most teams are facing the same issues as far as depth, but against a team like Mize or Raleigh who has a lot of depth up front typically it may become more evident.

Mize had all the talent in the world the last two years. Coach is a good guy but don’t have it.  Taylorsville has a ton of talent that will expose Mize attempt to run the spread. #6 in the only player they got. Coach Agee will have the Tartars knocking on the door of another State Championship. I love Mize but it’s gonna be a long year.

Last year was a rebuilding season and the senior group was probably the least talented Mize has had in a long time. That group of seniors never won at the youth level nor junior high level. If anything they overachieved.

Ton of talent for Taylorsville is stretching it. They have a good bit of talent for 1A yes, but that is it. The tartars have to get through their first four games and difficult district before they talk about knocking on the door of Davis Wade. Yes, Taylorsville has rich history as a powerhouse in Mississippi football, but this isn’t the Taylorsville of the past. They don’t have the depth, size, or quality of athletes they are used to having. Mize always fields a physical team with a good bit of size up front, and they happen to have a few athletes this year including #6. They may make a deep playoff run once again in 1A south, but beating Mize will be a much tougher feat.

For a life-long Mize fan, you sure never have anything positive to say about them.
