Players leaving Mississippi

Agree that potential NIL is having an impact on the transfers but I think the college transfer portal has a huge impact. Less high school scholarships will be going to high school players.  It’s all about positioning your high school athlete with the best opportunity to get to the next level. Yes, some of that has been happening for years but it’s about to explode IMO.  You have the haves and the have nots in college football today just like the high schools.

He’s a lifelong GC resident to my knowledge. Older brother is Tyrese Fryfogle.

While it probably stinks for George County as a team I can’t really blame anyone for trying to better themselves if they have the chance. As long as  no rules are being broken.

My opinion is you just have to let itto play out. People usually gets what’s coming to them good or bad. MSHAA has rules on the books for kid’s moving so as long as they are enforced properly it’s fair to everyone. You just can’t let a situation like what Petal was doing to Poplarville become commonplace . The MHSAA stepped in and got it right so the system worked.

I would have like to have seen him running around around South MS this fall but  also there are plenty more to see that want to play for their community. .

I’m looking at this situation from two different points of view. Every time I comment on a kid transferring, I’m told that he’s just doing what’s best for his future and that of his family. Cannot argue that.
Secondly is the point of view of what these actions will mean for the health of our state’s high school sports scene. Players grabbing the bag, moving to schools inside or especially, outside the state will eventually dilute the overall quality of play on the field. Small schools will lose players to their bigger neighbors like they always have, and even the elite programs will begin losing players to national programs with a recruiting connection and the funding to hand out. Our coaches will learn how to play the game, keeping their own and bringing in their neighbors, or our well thought of state recruiting base will suffer. I don’t know how this shakes out.

Also Malik Knight is an older brother I believe who didn't play football till senior year and still signed with Pearl River a few years back.  Athletic family.  Some other George County notable names as I go from memory which is sometimes questionable.  Eric Moulds (Buffalo Bills), Trey Fryfogle (Ole Miss)  Ty Fryfogle (Indiana All Big Ten) , McKinley Jackson (Texas A&M DL #35 currently), Alonzo Lawrence (Alabama), MJ Daniels (Ole Miss to USM - current), Dylan Lawrence (MSU to USM current), and tons more smaller schools and junior colleges.  My apologies to anyone I left out.  Used to have a motto "once a rebel, always a rebel."  Guess its not 100 percent accurate.  Best of luck to Deuce, I feel like he will be added to that long list of Lucedale greats.  Oh, Mojo Dortch (MSU current)  I ain't forgot you.

I got to thinking after I posted, a couple more GC boys popped into my head.  There was a Martin in the 70s who played at MSU (I believe his dad is the Martin part of Gill Martin stadium name) The first name is eluding me at the moment.  I know it's not Billy.  That was the guy who Steinbrenner fired like 3 times.  There was also a Perine who went to USM, I want to say Anthony.  Super athlete maybe late 90s?  GC had put out some football players over the years. Tough, hard nosed kids.   I didn't mean to go off topic, just waiting for the season to start.  I had not heard about Mojo going to Cal.  Such a good kid.

That’s what I’ve heard but it’s too late for that.

Here’s my problem with that and it’s not only a GC issue. That’s what’s wrong with society in general we let the Teenagers call the shots or their parents. Like you said it’s too late now. I remember when WC and GC had some major playoff battles. They had the running back that was shot I believe his name was Billy Joe he was a heck of a player.

I don’t know specifics outside of the usual “he’s not a good coach” moanings and groanings of small town football. If they were winning, I guarantee none of this would be happening. George County has always kept some high caliber athletes on the field. It’s not like getting offers is the issue because they’ve been putting kids in college for decades. I hope this doesn’t snowball and affect their season.

I’m not totally disagreeing with you GC has always had athletes and usually some of the biggest linemen around. But nobody has been able to get them to play at the level Coach Al Jones did in the early 2000’s. Several coaches have come and gone but all either loosing records or barely .500.

Yep. Not sure where the disconnect is but it’s always a head scratcher seeing them struggle like they have been

@CrimsonUnit1988 I know you’re on here reading this and I know that what is going on in your neck of the woods is a tough pill to swallow.  What do you think needs to happen in the long run in order for George County to turn things around? I honestly thought that George County would have been able to turn things around this fall and they still may be able to, but I know it’s gotten a whole lot more difficult.
