Rebeldawg79
Any news on candidates or hires at Northeast Lauderdale or Southeast Lauderdale?
BigFootballGuy
Would like to think that some assistants from West Lauderdale would be getting a call. They've been those two schools daddy for quite a while now.
lionpack
Lauderdale County has a supt and county athletic director that meddle in every athletic hire. Sounds like Northeast has started to make an effort for a good football program. Southeast is good in basketball and ok in baseball they couldn’t care less about football.
Bulldogs4
Lauderdale County School District does not care about football and never has. WL has been steady good for many years but they have only one or two deep runs in the playoffs since the playoff era started in 1981. And no State Championships. The other three schools change football coaches about as often as Zsa Zsa Gabor changed husbands. 1

FootballJunkie1995
JD definitely left MHS way better than he found it!!
finna
They failed to make the playoffs in each of his four seasons with an overall losing record. The previous head coach at least had a winning record during his tenure.

The handful of games he did win were probably due to having Daniel Hill, one of the state’s top players.
lionpack
The program top down is in better shape. Kids were better disciplined and more competitive imo. Daniel Hill is a generational talent but would you give him the credit for all the wins say if he played for Toby Collums at MC?

No, but if MC didn't make the playoffs with a "generational talent", I would question whether or not the HC left the program better than he found it. Meridian did set some records during his tenure: - most losses in a season (10) - most points given up in a season (542) - largest margin of defeat (62) Good luck, NEL!

Good luck NEL (part two) since he spent a year there before Meridian.
Bulldogs4
Douglass did a good job at Meridian. He walked into a complete dumpster fire and definitely righted the ship. Unfortunately the last two years, we lost a couple a very close division games that cost us an opportunity to be in the playoffs. His first year, we were playing with 8th and 9th graders because most of the actual high school players quit the team. So in his case, you have to look at situation with some context. I think he is a good coach. Unfortunately, the LCSD has a terrible track record with regard to football. If they will leave him alone (doubtful) he can build NEL into a good football program. But it will not happen overnight.
FootballJunkie1995
Meridian football has bigger issues then what happens on the field. JD was a huge stabilizing force. The city of Meridian has major issues that has unfortunately bled into the school. Those factors mixed with the level of competition and crumbling facilities compared to who you play. All of those factors make it a definitely unique job. They hired a all time great in Coach Boyels hopefully the wins start coming and it can spearhead a comeback for the whole city. Meridian has great history and great people.

Maybe should have hired a coach that can get kids to come out and buy in. So in his case, you have to look at situation with some context. I think he is a good coach. His record indicates different. Unfortunately, the LCSD has a terrible track record with regard to football. If they will leave him alone (doubtful) he can build NEL into a good football program. But it will not happen overnight. Like he did at George County? You don't have to make things up to make yourself feel better. Sometimes your buddies don't do a good job, and that's ok. 1

Current district AD has destroyed Northeast and crippled Southeast, where he did stints as principal at both places before being promoted due to his lack of success. The revolving door that Northeast has become recently is a direct result of him when he was the principal there. Southeast was just starting to recover from his tenure there until he was allowed to meddle in there again as AD
