Stone is about to build a brand new school with a new on campus football stadium and facility. Hard to imagine he would leave Stone for the ruins that are currently Moss Point. Like I said he was their top choice. I didn't say he was gonna take it. A couple of reasons I think he would consider it is. 1. Money - Most assistants on the coast make more than what Stone Co pays. 2. Stone will struggle to make the playoffs in their new division. 3. New stadium on campus is yet to be seen, I am hearing money is gonna be thin and not sure they will be able to build the stadium.

He has a good thing going at Stone and I believe they will be tough in their region. I think they would have beaten both Vancleave and East Central this past season. I have not heard anything about the money not being their to build the stadium on campus at the new school. I was told the bond money and all was there to make it happen. We will see though. Moss Point is a tough gig. I have heard there were some veteran coaches who are in the twilight of their careers putting in for it, but no big names of substance. Did hear Tracy Lampley from Ocean Springs put in for it. Not sure how true all that may be though.
coastfootballfanman
I also saw where Pascagoula assistant coach Tim Lala was named HFC at Saint Stanislaus. He was the defensive coordinator there a few years ago.
Archer
A school can claim to target any coach. Feaster likely wouldn't answer a phone call from the Moss Point administration. They're finished. It's over. Done. That candidate pool will consist only of the very desperate. I worked in that district in 2008-2009 and it was a pitiful, leaderless operation then so there's no knowing the depths of incompetence prevailing now. I was told he told his players today he was leaving.

If true, good hire for Moss Point, but unless he is bringing some players with him I do not think he is going to see a ton of success. They are also most likely dropping to 3A next count which does not bode well for them either. Hard to imagine leaving what Stone has going but when I was told Gulfport was going all in for Pennock, I laughed because I thought no chance. Yet, he is now at Gulfport. I like Feaster. He was teammates at Pearl River with my little brother. Always a good guy. Edited January 31, 2023 by coastfootballfanman Typo

As someone who spent three years teaching and coaching at MPSD, I could not be happier that they are getting a coach of Feaster's quality. Coach Harmon is a class act and I'm hoping for a smooth transition. I am well aware of the challenges the district and community face, but there are some high-quality adults there giving their all for the athletes and students of MP. However, based on the current climate it is going to be an uphill battle unlike any he has seen. The town is shrinking, the talent pool is all put a puddle at this point. Getting families to want to move there will be next to impossible. John Feaster is a great guy and I think he is the right man for the job. I just think it may be the "right person, wrong time" sort of situation. Going to be rooting for him!

There are some high quality individuals. The problem a lot of the shot callers are not high quality. I do think Dr. Oswego Harper is doing a fine job taking over as superintendent after the last one was put on leave by the school board and not a peep has been mentioned since. So it makes you wonder what really is going on.

I think Feaster is a highly competent coach but he's over his skis with this decision. Moss Point was competing in the highest classification as of 2006 and will have proceeded to drop (if the current trend continues) four levels in classification in less than 20 years. This is not a sleeping giant in need of awakening; it's a losing hand and seems like career self-destruction. If wrong, I'll be back to own it. So one year removed from winning a state title means they are trending down just because they didnt win it this past season? So i guess you think Picayune will be trending down if they dont win the 6a title next season.

They've shown they have the ability to be one of the best year in and year out. They also play in a much more competitive classification. Wareaglefan1us
He did a great job at Stone County but wants to bring back one of the state’s storied programs. Can he idk but if it can be done he can. Remember Stone wasn’t exactly a powerhouse when he took over. Also look at the region Stone County is in next season. Every team in it was in the 5A playoffs. It will be the most competitive region in 5A. But I promise you that’s not why he left he wants the challenge respect that.

If we are being objective he did not really elevate Stone much aside from this season. He is 39-34 in 7 seasons (30-31 going into this season). 4-7 in the playoffs (3 of those wins coming this year). He is a solid coach but it was not like he turned Stone into a upper tier program. 3 losing seasons over the last 5. He is also walking into a VASTLY different situation than what he inherited at Stone. This 1st season is going to challenge him immensely. I hope it plays out well for him, but I do not see this lasting long term without major overhaul of the city and school district. The biggest thing helping him will be playing in a weak 4A division outside of Poplarville.
