Schools already pushing their first game back…..

If we keep doing things the way we have been doing them, we can expect problems. Private schools, some not all, don’t require masks and they don’t quarantine healthy kids just because a kid was in the same room as somebody who was positive. They keep on going just like any other year

Lamar County going back tomorrow the way they were last year with hybrid A/B schedules and required masks.

If this doesn’t work and we have no changes by state and federal officials we in trouble.

What do you suggest the state and fees do? Full lock down again?

My wife who is a nurse in Ocean Springs would beg to differ on that subject.

What would you suggest the schools do?? If they are exposed to another student who is Covid positive. You think they should let those students just stay?

If masks work so well then why send students home that are wearing masks? Is that not disincentivizing wearing the mask in the first place. We are arguing the effectiveness of wearing the mask, and then sending healthy students home that are wearing masks that may or may not have been exposed to a student that tests positive and then not allowing them to return with a negative tests and no symptoms.

First off, I am not trying to argue anything. My original point is that this variant is far more dangerous to young adults/teens than what we went through last year so to say just let those who are close contact stay, is a tricky deal. The purpose of a mask is to help keep a student from getting Covid-19. Do I think masks work? I am on the fence about this. I do not think they are the be all, end all to stop the spread of this virus. However, I do believe that it does help keeping it from spreading as bad as it potentially could. Also, at least in many of the coast districts, if close contact student gets quarantined, but test negative and shows no symptoms, they are allowed to return to school. Some of the county schools are not even quarantining close contacts. They send the positive student home and go about their business as usual. It is hard for me because last year, I felt like many of you do now, but after seeing what my wife has been dealing with every day and how hospitals are over capacity and are now having to stop performing surgeries because they have no beds. There is talk of medical ships being brought in off the coast and having to use those to house patients. It is not as black and white as you all make it out to be. This is real, this is serious, and it is probably not going away anytime soon.

But yet there are no restrictions on attendance at the games this season. So to me if its safe enough for us to attend games, its safe enough for students to attend class

That is more up to the MHSAA than it is anyone else though, right? Much like school districts with masks and their COVID policies, it is up to them to make a determination on limiting attendance, masks, etc. since state government has not put any mandates in place. I highly doubt they will either. Can districts come out and put these in place if they want? I am not saying students should not be in class, but I also feel like we should not just say to hell with it and do away with any and all COVID policies such as masks, quarantining, etc. Is there a better way? Probably so. Maybe quarantining every close contact is not the answer. I am not paid to make those decisions. I just think its negligent to act as if this virus roaring back is to be taken lightly. I hope and pray that we are able to have a great football season, I just feel after talking with my wife and friends who work in education, we will not get that. This hits a little closer to home for me I guess. Hearing the horror stories my wife has told along with recently losing a very close friend who was in solid health at only 42 years old to COVID just has me concerned overall.

There is no data yet that suggests the virus is worse in young people this year. More contagious, yes. It’s spreads way more easily. But it’s not showing to be more severe or more deadly. In fact, it may be less severe and deadly. Higher numbers will happen when something is more contagious because way more people are getting it than before. But if the RATES of hospitalizations or deaths do not go up, then it’s not more harmful. What’s incredibly odd is the fact the RSV is spreading so bad right now, in a time when it’s not supposed to be. I’m going to go out on a limb and say all these insane measures we are taking since last year are what’s driving outbreaks of other illnesses. We haven’t allowed our immune systems to work like they are designed to
