MS/AL Game

This was the third highest scoring game in the series history. Key injuries hurt MS this week. And it took getting the MS exec director thrown out of the game before the Alabama refs learned the rules and still did not enforce them until 2nd half.  But what would a football game be without the complainers 😂

What rules were not enforced until the 2nd half

This game is better than it was in 1988. Unless I’m reading that wrong, what would the change of the landscape in college have to do this game? This game is consistently loaded with future D1 guys. Look at the former MVP’s and then look at the NFL. Even with injuries involved with this game, it was still loaded. MS/Al is one of the most loaded state/state competitions there is. You do have folks say we shouldn’t face AL because of population but it’s the best competitive game. Oh let’s play Arkansas like most say smh.

This game was huge in 1988. I was there. As a matter of fact I went to all of the ones in Mobile when they used to play in June. The game was very competitive when it first started. The first few actually went into overtime. But over the years Alabama grew in population but Miss. really didn't and you could really tell Alabama's coaches were much more sophisticated and while Miss. had great athletes, they usually got out coached and lost. Also, when the games first started, neither Mobile or Montgomery had college bowl games like they do now. And the game had much more interest in Alabama. It did help interest in Miss. when they starting playing some of the games in Miss. And while the move to December made sense football wise it just really became pushed to the back with all the other football going on in Dec. And now that high school players are not as important to colleges as in the past with the portal, the interest in even further eroded. So yes, I could see the States eventually pulling the plug on this game.
