  1. Biloxi has always looked the part, but constantly struggle to put it together. Uninspiring hires with Bobby Hall and Katlan French have only further stymied their growth and development in my opinion. They lost a 3 year starter at quarterback due to transfer and several other talented players (at skill positions and defense) so I definitely see where it is hard to picture them being good this season. Heck the most talented team Biloxi fielded in the past few years featured 3-4 D-1 players just on defense alone and they were the fourth seed in a not great coast region that year I believe. I also do not expect a ton out of George County defensively this year either. I have been told they are not great on that side of the ball and will rely on a great offense to win games.
  2. Coast kids are truly just different types of kids. Different lifestyles and attitudes (especially below I-10) for the kids on the coast. Football is not a major priority to a lot of kids down here. Couple that with questionable coaching hires at many of the 5A and 6A programs, it is not surprising the coast has struggled once playoffs roll around. Outside of Picayune (one could argue they are not a true coast team as well) nobody has consistently been a strong contender.
  3. Not buying the Petal hype. The new QB is not bad by any means, but he is not a world beater either. He was probably the the 3rd or 4th best Quarterback in the region and you could argue he was not even top 5 on the coast.
  4. I may make the trip for this one! Should be a classic contest!
  5. I say no because the vast majority of public schools (especially in the Jackson area) are doing the same. High School football (much like College already has) is on its way to being the wild west. Look at Mobile and Baldwin counties in Alabama. Public and Private are recruiting and battling for kids like crazy.
  6. I think it is a good change up from your normal offense. Have a series or so based out of that look. What Wayne County did offensively last year was impressive. They could go traditional spread one series, and then turn around and be wing-t the next. Tough to defend like that
  7. I was told they are running a variation of the "Gun-T" along with Vance's normal offensive look.
  8. I am speaking at this moment. I fully believe Deuce Knight at George County will surpass Irving's ability by the time he is a senior. He is going to be an absolute STUD. Irving is seasoned and played a TON of games over the last 3 seasons. He accounted for almost 4,200 yards of offense and almost 50 TD's last season. I did not intend my post be a knock on any other team's quarterback.
  9. Kaden Irving is the best Quarterback in 5A south right now in my opinion and I am not sure if it is close.
  10. Picayune is the run away favorite to win 4-5A. They should roll honestly. After that, I believe George County, Gautier and East Central will be your 3 playoff teams. Not sure of the order. If Gautier ever plans to contend, this is the year. When their QB leaves, it'll be downhill slide for them. East Central has a Head Coach the kids are going to play their hearts out for. David Hudson also returning to staff as the DC is huge for them. George County is going to be really tough offensively with their weapons. The question is, will the Offensive Line step up for them. That has been an Achilles heel for them the last few season I feel I have been told. West Harrison should be improved, but I do not see them cracking the playoffs. Vancleave will be tough, but they do not have the horses to keep up with everyone else's athletes and Dayan Bilbo is gone. PRC is in a similar boat as Vancleave although I think they will have a better offense. Long Beach has to show me something before I discuss them. Buzz around the program is better going into this year, but what happens when they hit some struggles? If you made me seed them out it would be: Picayune George County Gautier East Central PRC Vancleave West Harrison Long Beach
  11. I really do not feel like looking up the information and I figured someone here could answer it anyway. How many schools are in the MHSAA, and of that number how many play football?
  12. There will never be backlash from MRA for it. Herb Davis has a well oiled machine and nobody is going to slow it down at MRA. Look at the positive publicity and press they get on a regular basis. The thing people forget is when you allow sports programs (especially at the private schools) to become this big, powerful and successful, there really is not a whole lot you can do to slow it down. They are thriving in all sports just about, and the majority of students there are involved in sports in some capacity as well.
  13. "If you build it, they will come". Again, I am not saying this guy is going to grab all this talent from those schools, but he is going to try his hardest. A lot of schools in the Jackson area used to say the same thing about MRA and look at what they have become the last several years. The kids at the High School level probably will be okay. It is the ones in middle school that Carr is going to target. PCS does not make this hire if they are not committed to putting money and resources behind Carr.
  14. You might be right, but in this case, I promise you it is warranted.
  15. Not saying you have to drink the look aid or that he’s going to get a bunch of kids in. I just stated he is going to try. The guy they hired, he is going to shake every tree in the area to get kids. Middle school-high school. I am just the messenger. Money and resources are about to start coming at PCS. They would not have made this hire if things were not going to be heading in that direction. He may not get a single kid from OG or Hattiesburg, but I promise you he is going to go after them all
  16. Most private schools do not technically give athletic scholarships, but there are boosters, alum, parents, etc. that will pay for athletes to go there.
  17. Yep! Hattiesburg, Petal, Oak Grove, Summrall, etc. need to keep close watch on their kids.
  18. Expectations even at doormat programs are through the roof these days. Society has become "win now". We live in an instant gratification society and many coaches are no longer allowed 3-4 years to build a program. Couple this with how terrible parents/community members have become along with player attitudes becoming horrible, it will only become more and more common to see coaches leaving the profession. It is not worth the stress and complications that come from it. Look at Eric Collins at East Central. Back to back playoff berths and was competitive in a good region. He was essentially ran off because parents in the community did not like how he ran his program.
  19. Very hard to argue with that 2010 Panola squad, but for the sake of playing devil's advocate, I will take 1987 Pascagoula. Defense gave up an average of 6 points per game and also recorded 6 shutouts. Only surrendered 84 points all season long. The offense was averaging 28 points a game as well. They had many division 1 football stars and several of them played in the NFL as well. I remember the beating they put on my older brother and Gulfport that year. Still is the best high school football team I have seen in person.
  20. You have someone in mind to finish out his staff?
  21. The only other name I was told was Nowell at Heidelberg, but he has posted on here he is staying at Heidelberg so I believe it has to be Sam Huff.
  22. I will give him a call this evening and ask about them. He could have omitted them by mistake because you are right, Tishomingo County would most likely be a high 4A. Mooreville I assume may be 3A if they were not on his list or he may have omitted them as well on accident. I will get more details this evening
  23. Not sure. Numbers were sent to me by an AD friend that went and crunched the numbers for all MHSAA teams grades 8-10 for 2021-2022 school year.
  24. I get your point. I have heard they were supposed to begin play in 23-24 season, but I believe Rebel Bert said 24-25 season is when they will begin play. I have not seen anything concrete regarding that though either.
  25. I am not so sure about that. The 24-25 season will be year two of reclassification between 2023-2025 numbers. If they are playing that season, I would imagine they would have to take their numbers for that in order to properly place them?? That is a interesting scenario
