Oh wow. I just saw the reason why they are back in. The Walthall county court ruled that they must be allowed to play. If I’m the MHSAA, after this is over I might would banish Salem from the MHSAA completely.

I get why they have allowed them back in, but I don’t agree with it. And that’s now exposing a problem with only having 4 teams in a district. What incentive does a team have for not trying to bend the rules when they can go 0-10 and still be guaranteed a playoff spot? A team like Salem can risk or mount olive or west Lincoln can break the rules, because even if they get punished and have to forfeit all their games, you still get to make the playoffs anyway. The punishment is supposed to be forfeit all games and not be eligible for the playoffs. They should have stuck to that, IMO.

Rules are rules. It’s not the kids fault. But it is the coaches

Here’s a theory I have kind of worked up in my head. There are only 4 teams in the district, so even if Salem went 0-10, they knew they would still make the playoffs. So what if their coach, knowing that, decided to risk taking a kid that was not eligible? If the MHSAA decided he was ineligible, even if they forfeit every game they could still make the playoffs since their is only 4 teams in the district anyway. But the MHSAA instead ruled them ineligible for the playoffs, which is the correct ruling. Either way, Salem’s coach and school officials dropped the ball.

His age was fine. The problem was, from what I have read, is that he failed (or was expelled) a year of high school. That counts towards your eligibility.

Why was the player ineligible?

Just heard Salem played all season with an ineligible player and has had to forfeit their entire season. Lumberton gets the first round win this week by forfeit

Every 2A north game looks like real snoozers except for VJ and Northside

Games that intrigue me the most: Scott Central/Clarkdale North Forrest/Loyd Star Amite Co./Collins Bay Springs/Pelahatchie I think Scott Central, Loyd Star, Amite, and Bay Springs all win those games. But I would not be shocked if they lost them either. Loyd Star already beating Scott Central could actually slightly benefit Scott Central, but I’m still gonna pick Loyd Star.

Nah it was a close game. We were losing in the beginning of the 4th quarter. We had multiple turnovers that game too that kept Tville in it. If we played them again, and were turnover free, we would roast them now.

Northside and Velma Jackson is a big first round matchup

I think some of these teams who have played soft schedules are about to reveal themselves now that playoffs are here. I think Clarkdale has a real shot at beating #1 seed Scott central, but I’m going to predict Scott central pulls it out at home in a really good game. Scott central has played a really tough schedule and I think that helps them in this game.

Union and JDC will be one to watch. I think Union pulls it out, but it should be close. Wouldn’t be shocked to see JDC pull off the upset though.

Heidelberg would beat bay springs by 40 points minimum. It would not be a close game. It would be a running clock no later than sometime in the 3rd quarter

The Mize/Lake winner will play the Wesson/Perry Central winner in round 2 according to the misshsaa website. I think you got the bracket mixed up some.
