I agree with this. North Forrest was dominated by Stringer in the spring game basically. 14-0 and offense had trouble moving the ball. They also only have 19-20 players I saw so no depth whatsoever. Mize should dominate North Forrest IMO. Also, while Taylorsville’s defense looks to be improved, it is still not good enough to completely shut down opposing team’s offense.

I know Taylorsville after Meet the Tartars had a 90 min scrimmage that the BR Broadcasting guy filmed on Facebook. Maybe Mize did something similar.

I think Maxpreps has it wrong. I went off AHSFHS, which says they haven’t won since 2013. Maybe that can change this year though.

I think a team that could surprise some people this year in 1A is Stringer. Year 1 for Brady had its ups and downs, but he returns the bulk of his team from last season. I think the biggest thing for them this year is learning how to win the big games. They let several important games they were leading or competitive in slip away from them in the 2nd half last year out of inexperience. They will win a lot of games especially in non-district because their schedule is extremely soft this season, but it only matters if they can win the big ones. They play Bay Springs for the first time since Brady’s arrival at Stringer in a jamboree next week, and they have not beat Enterprise since 2013. Those are 2 games to watch out for early to see if they’re ready to take the next step yet or not.

I agree. 3-7 or 4-6 is very possible for them in my opinion.

Watched some clips of Tville from Meet the Tartars from last night. Wasn’t impressed by QB or any of the athletes around him really. Defense was definitely the star of the show from the little bit I watched. In my opinion, Tville is being overhyped way too much. Curious to see what they do against Scott Central next week, but for now give me Mize by 2 TD’s in a competitive game.

Only way Enterprise wins is if they play ball control, but I think Bay Springs defense will be too good for that to occur. Enterprise may be well coached and a fundamentally sound football team, but the talent is trending down for sure. I just think Bay Springs will have too much speed for Enterprise to keep up with. Enterprise would have to play almost perfect to pull off a win especially with it being on the road. Not saying it’s impossible, but it will be tough to pull off for sure.

For sure. They’ll be competitive in 2A once again. Them and Mize would be another great matchup. They possibly could have problems with the spread also, so that could give Mize an upper hand this year compared to last.

In my opinion, no matter who Loyd Star is playing Kees is going to find a way to make his presence known. He is a really good player. Does Loyd Star play a weak schedule consistently? No doubt. Does that help make his stats look better? Absolutely, but even if they played a gauntlet of a schedule with a tough defense every week the kid would find a way to shine. His stats wouldn’t be no where near what they are now against bigger, better defenses because football is a team sport. Loyd Star doesn’t have the O-Line to block some of the top D-Line’s in the state. As long as he stays healthy and out of trouble, he will play college football without a shadow of a doubt. Loyd Star goes as he goes.

It’s Sinegal not Page. I’ve heard on the grapevine he was officially ruled ineligible at some point last week. Someone can confirm this that follows West Jones closer. I do know for a fact he is not back at Stringer though, and him going back is out of the question. I heard Wayne Academy may be a possibility, but I don’t know that for sure. Just rumors going around.

You guys are super high on Agee. Big time praise for a first year head coach that already has a ton of pressure on him.
-
I agree with this. They should go at least .500 and probably would do better if it weren’t for the toughness of their district. I don’t think they beat Bay Springs or Mize, but them and Clarkdale should be a good matchup for the 4 seed.
-
I see where you’re coming from. The game is at Heidelberg though this year, and Heidelberg is gonna be on a whole different level even compared to last season. Not saying it’s completely impossible for Bay Springs to upset, but I would be surprised if they did.

Ton of talent for Taylorsville is stretching it. They have a good bit of talent for 1A yes, but that is it. The tartars have to get through their first four games and difficult district before they talk about knocking on the door of Davis Wade. Yes, Taylorsville has rich history as a powerhouse in Mississippi football, but this isn’t the Taylorsville of the past. They don’t have the depth, size, or quality of athletes they are used to having. Mize always fields a physical team with a good bit of size up front, and they happen to have a few athletes this year including #6. They may make a deep playoff run once again in 1A south, but beating Mize will be a much tougher feat.
-
Fair point. I don’t think it will matter as much in 1A because most teams are facing the same issues as far as depth, but against a team like Mize or Raleigh who has a lot of depth up front typically it may become more evident.
-
O-Line was their weakest link last season in my opinion. Maybe they’ve improved through fall and summer camp though.
-
Don’t know much about Agee, but I do agree from what I can tell that he will have his team ready to compete every Friday night. I know you can’t really tell much off of spring ball a lot of times, and I definitely expect y’all to be much improved from then and make a run in 1A. Non district definitely will be tough, but that’s by design i’m sure.

Is Taylorsville playing any sort of jamboree or scrimmage on the 22nd?
-
I have not seen Mize run spread in person yet, but from what I saw on Youtube they looked like they didn’t have much trouble moving the ball against JDC in their spring game. On the other hand, Taylorsville struggled to move the ball against both West Marion and Raymond respectively. There’s a lot of inexperience on that side of the ball for them, and it showed. Unless they have taken massive jumps over the summer, I think they struggle to score offensively in their first 4 games with the caliber of defenses they are facing each week. Coach Agee seems to have everyone fired up and excited for Taylorsville football again, and I think that will be evident for the first quarter or two of this game, but it will be short lived. I still think Mize by 2-3 TD’s as of now.
-
I think Taylorsville puts up a fight and makes it respectable especially with it being at their home field, but I think Mize stays in control of this game pretty similar to last year. It will be a 4 quarter game that could be competitive, but Mize should lead the way if they play like they’re capable.
-
They are gonna be pretty young this year especially as far as skill positions. I saw their spring game against Raleigh. Raleigh won 14-0. Defense was physical and should be pretty solid. Lots of seniors on the defensive side. Offense was smothered by Raleigh’s defense, but a lot of that was credit to how good Raleigh is defensively (especially their front 7). Offense will be sluggish and possibly hard to come by early on, but ultimately I think they have a pretty good season. They won’t beat Heidelberg or anything, but I think them and Mize should be a good battle for 2 seed in that district.
-
Their division is tough. They may be decent, but I doubt they get higher than a 3 or 4 seed. Nanih Waiya will be really good this year. They bring most of their team back from last year plus they picked up a running back from Louisville that got some reps there last season I heard. Leake County and Noxapater will be solid too. Sebastapol also moved down to 1A and is in that district. Not really sure what they have coming back, but I know their best player graduated.
-
I’m quite sure Taylorsville is the least of Mize’s worries. They will struggle to win more than 5 games this year just like Enterprise will. In my honest opinion I think Enterprise has a good chance of going 0-3 against the teams stated above. 1-2 at best. So Enterprise should be worried if anything.
-
All I have to say to that is good luck. Especially with Mize. You're gonna need it.
-
We’ll see about that on August 29th.
