Nanih Waiya should beat Sebastopol by a few TD’s as long as they come ready to play. I believe Noxapater will bounce back against an overrated Ethel team that may not even secure a playoff spot after losing to Leake County 28-0 last Friday. A game that somewhat interests me this week in 1A is Bogue Chitto going on the road to Mount Olive. Bogue Chitto will obviously be the favorite, but I think if anyone can knock them off in that district it would be Mount Olive.

I say 65-70% chance. Lumberton is really the only bump in the road, and they only beat a mediocre at best Richton team by 2 TD’s last night. Enterprise won’t be a blow out, but I definitely think Taylorsville is the better team. Plus it’s at home.

The suspect I heard is from Bay Springs.

Prayers for Leland as well. According to Facebook they had a mass shooting after their game. Not sure how many injured or fatalities.

Prayers for Heidelberg. I heard 3 people shot at their homecoming tailgate tonight.

Good game. Heck of a comeback attempt by WA. Stringer battled a lot of adversity that game.

According to Maxpreps, Nanih Waiya 41 Noxapater 16 in the 4th. Did not see that coming.

Clarkdale at Union moved to Friday.

Very good point. With Union’s district being a little on the weaker side, they definitely need a game like this to prepare them for playoffs. Same for Clarkdale except that their district is not weak, and they have an another level of good Heidelberg team coming to their field at the end of this month. Mize isn’t a bad team either even if their record says otherwise. 3 one score losses against some solid teams.

Should be a very good game. It is at Union, so home field advantage will be in their favor. Union has also played a tougher schedule and much closer games than Clarkdale. Clarkdale has won by 3 or more TD’s every week except Bay Springs. It’s really hard to make a pick because I think both teams are very evenly matched, but i’m on the Clarkdale train so i’m going with them to win. It should be a really good game though that may even need overtime.

I’ve heard that as well. They have a good running back and a big o-line. QB is pretty good as well. Most of their statistical leaders offensively at least are returners from last year. The new offensive system they run is really well suited for the talent they have. The new coach is the son of longtime Newton Academy coach Rob Roberts. He won a state championship there in 2014

One team and coach that comes to mind as far as outperforming expectations is Clarkdale and 1st year Head Coach Rob Roberts. They have doubled last season’s win total at the midway point of the season with a record of 6-0. I think it’s very possible they go 9-1 with a lone loss to one of the best teams in the state (Heidelberg) and make a deep run in the playoffs.

In agreeance on this. Vardaman just isn’t as great as people expected this year.

Nanih Waiya & Noxapater should be a very good game that quite possibly decides who will be Region 5 champion. As far as other big matchups go, I think Simmons wins big. South Delta has played a weak schedule and lost to Leflore County by a huge margin when Simmons beat Leflore handily. Another team to keep an eye on this week is Stringer to see how they handle the big loss to Taylorsville. Wayne Academy is one of the better teams in their classification, and they have picked up some good players. They need to bounce back in a big way.

That’s pretty accurate. Enterprise will have trouble moving the ball, but Bay Springs offensive struggles will keep them in the game for a little while. They do have one good back with a lot of speed that Enterprise may struggle tackling. Bay Springs should eventually pull away though.

I agree with this. They had 2 extremely good backs last year that both graduated along with several more seniors which will hurt, but they always seem to find a way to reload. I think Taylorsville has a good enough defense to compete with them and make it a low scoring game, but until further notice, they are still probably the top team in 1A sourh.

Biggersville is good don’t get me wrong, but losing to East Webster 54-14 makes me think they are not on the same level Calhoun City is on. Yes, EW is one of the best teams in 2A north, but Calhoun City would be too and I believe those two teams are evenly matched similar to last season. Biggersville’s win over Baldwyn is impressive, and they are probably the 2nd best team in 1A right now, but it’s gonna be very hard to for anyone in 1A to beat Calhoun City.

Yeah no shot anyone does. They may be as dominant in 1A as Heidelberg will be in 2A. Just for example they beat Hamilton 50-15 last night. Hamilton has a 1 point win over Noxapater and a 12 point win over Nanih Waiya, and those teams are supposed to be 2 of the better teams in 1A. 1A south will be competitive, but the state championship itself is Calhoun City’s to lose.

From what i’ve heard most came from Wayne County feeder schools. I know one of them for sure came from Beat Four.

They definitely have. I don’t know if they threw the ball more than 5 times in the second half, and they only threw screens when they did throw. They gashed Stringer all night on the ground and read every offensive play they tried to run like a book, yet there were absolutely no coaching adjustments made. As someone who has followed Stringer this year, it was a massive disappointment to see them lay down and lose the way they did. Taylorsville was the better team though, and they will be dangerous in 1A south for sure. I expect them to beat Lumberton and win the district. As long as they do win the district, they will have a very easy side of the bracket. Only team that could even possibly compete with them until South State are one of the Winston County teams (Noxapater, NW) which they wouldn’t see until 3rd round at home. Losing their district and getting 2nd would send them to Simmons 2nd round. Simmons is still good, but they won’t be the team they were last season due to only returning 4 total starters on both sides of the ball. I definitely was impressed by Taylorsville though and think they have a real shot at another state championship appearance if they continue to build on the big win.

Them and Union will be a very good game next week. I haven’t heard Union’s final for tonight, but good chance both teams will be 6-0. Correction: Union beat Quitman 21-15 tonight. Both teams will be 6-0 coming into that matchup.

Props to Taylorsville. They completely outplayed Stringer tonight and changed their whole season. I think they have a good chance of winning out and going 6-4. If they can beat Lumberton for district the path to South State is very doable. Stringer on the other hand has a lot of work to do. Embarrassing performance for them is putting it lightly. Probably will be looking at 3rd in district if they don’t improve from tonight.

Not a great first half for Stringer. They own Time of Possession by half the game and only capitalize once. Stringer had 3 drives. 1st drive TD. 2nd drive Pick 6 on 4th and long on Taylorsville’s side of the field with 50 seconds left until half. Then they ran the clock out. Taylorsville went 3 and out to start then had a long drive to respond to Stringer’s TD with one of their own. It’s still anybody’s game, but if Stringer doesn’t make some halftime adjustments Taylorsville might win this game by 2 TD’s or more.

I highly doubt Enterprise beats Clarkdale. After seeing both teams play Stringer back to back weeks Clarkdale looked to be the much better team. Rivalry games can get crazy though. We will know more on how good Clarkdale really is after they play Bay Springs tomorrow night. Definitely their best opponent so far
