  1. Stringer and Wayne Academy tied at 14 halftime
  2. I don’t see them beating either of those teams. I wonder how long it has been since Bay Springs missed the playoffs.
  3. I agree that the future could be promising assuming Tville continues to stay in 1A. They will never get back to where they were, but I believe that they can get back to contending as a heavyweight in 1A in the next few years. This is Stringer’s year to make a run similar to Tville’s last year. They have 12-13 seniors who have learned how to taste glimpses of success the past few years. If Stringer is going to finally get over the hump under Brady and make a title run, this is the year. Last night was a good starting point whether Taylorsville is down or not.
  4. I think they will beat Resurrection. Richton is a winnable game for them as well. I expected them to not field a very good team this season, but I did not expect to see what I saw tonight. I figured they would at least have enough to compete with Stringer even with the injuries they are facing.
  5. I second this. Should be at worst a 3 seed in their region.
  6. 48-0 Stringer over Taylorsville final.
  7. 42-0 Stringer over Taylorsville end 3
  8. Taylorsville at Stringer moved to Thursday as well.

    1A South

Five games into the season, no team has clearly emerged as the favorite to represent 1A South in Starkville this fall. Simmons' earlier loss to Leflore County has made the race much more open than it appeared at the start of the season. With the playoff picture wide open, here are four teams that could have what it takes to earn that spot: 1. Simmons (3-1) Simmons has been dominant as usual through 3 out of their first 4 games to start the season. However, they suffered a huge 14-6 loss to Leflore County in week two of the season. Will they slip up again, or will they get a potential rematch with the Tigers in Starkville? 2. Nanih Waiya (4-1) Nanih Waiya has had an offensive explosion to start the season averaging more than 40 points per game with a high powered pass game. Their defense has struggled though, giving up 33 points per game over this time frame. They are the favorite in their region and are capable of winning out through the regular season, but do they have what it takes to dethrone Simmons as the defending south champion? 3. Stringer (3-2) Stringer started the season 0-2 against two teams that are a combined 8-2 through five games. The Red Devils are now on a 3 game win streak and have outscored opponents 128-31 over this time frame. They will host the struggling 0-5 Tartars of Taylorsville on Friday night; a team they have not beat since 1989. Will this finally be the year they overcome the green and gold and compete for the South, or will they continue to compromise with mediocracy? 4. Lumberton (1-3) Don't let the Panthers 1-3 record fool you. All losses have been competitive against much larger schools. The team has an extremely talented QB and other weapons around him. Stringer defeated Lumberton by a large margin last season at home, but the Red Devils will have to travel to “The Pit” this season. Can Lumberton pay back Stringer’s gashing they gave them last season and win Region 8, or will they continue to slide?
  10. North Forrest 33 Taylorsville 22 Final
  11. Stringer 50 Mount Olive 16 Final. Taylorsville in danger of being 0-5 going into district play. They are currently down 27-14 to North Forrest late in the 4th.
  12. 26-0 Wesson over Lumberton Final
  13. I agree. After watching Enterprise and Clarkdale face Stringer back to back weeks, I actually thought Enterprise looked slightly better. I say they win one of those and clinch the four seed. I doubt they can beat Mize, but I don’t think it will necessarily be a blowout. 6-4 overall. 7-3 if they can beat both Bay Springs and Clarkdale.
  14. Jimmerson and the boys have gotten off to a 3-0 start after going 2-8 and missing the playoffs last season. I have personally been shocked to see no one has brought up the success they have had after many doubted their ability to win more than 2-3 games this season (myself included). How do we think the Bulldogs finish out the year? I know their district is tough, but will they be able to be competitive and make an appearance as a 3-4 seed in the playoffs?
  15. East Webster is one of the best teams in 2A. I do agree giving up that many points to Vardaman is concerning, but I believe they are still the favorite in their district and should make a run in the playoffs. Only team I could see challenging them maybe is Ethel unless Noxapater or Sebastopol is better than they appear to be.
  16. Leflore and Calhoun City I believe will decide 1A north. Simmons is still the pretty clear favorite in the south, although teams like Nanih Waiya and the winner of Region 8 (Taylorsville, Lumberton, or Stringer) could challenge them. Otherwise the classification is pretty weak as a whole.
  17. I agree. I think as long as they can get through this rough stretch healthy they will win a few games in district play. Possibly win the district as a whole. Them and Stringer should be a good game to open it up.
  18. Didn’t see that coming. That could be a rematch for the 1A state championship.
  19. Clarkdale 22 Stringer 8 Final
  20. Bay Springs 14 Taylorsville 0 around 5 min until halftime
  21. Stringer 0 Clarkdale 0 Halftime
  22. Stringer is home for Brady. He graduated from there, his wife works there, his sons go to school there, and his nephew plays there. I think he saw his opportunity to go home and revitalize Stringer’s program while also being with his family and took it. Stringer was coming off 3 straight 2 win seasons when he arrived. He helped more than double their win total to 5 in his first year, and they are coming off a 9-3 season in his second year. Last Friday, they did not have a good showing. Several turnovers and poor defensive performance. 1A is not very strong this year though, so even with a not so great loss to a middle of the road 2A team, they still will be competitive down the stretch. I think the potential is there for them to win their district, go 7-3 or 8-2, and make it to the 3rd round of the playoffs or farther. If they fix the turnover problem they had Friday, I think their offense will be hard to stop by the competition they face.
  23. I think it’s very possible Resurrection has a winless season unless they beat Christian Collegiate Friday.
  24. I think the north could possibly come down to West Tally and Leflore County. Calhoun City will still be there, but I am not impressed by a 10 point win over Myrtle. Biggersville is down as well. Basically, the real question in 1A this year is can anyone challenge Simmons? 1A as a whole is pretty weak this year outside of them. In my personal opinion, circle round 3 if whoever wins Region 8 (Stringer, Lumberton, Taylorsville) can win their way to that point. If I have it right, I believe Simmons would have to travel to one of those schools. That is what I believe will be Simmons’ biggest challenge.
