  1. I don't have a problem with recruiting per se, as in "the act of people persuading a student to come to a school", or "a school marketing itself to garner more transfers." Without the "marketing and recruiting students" angle, even public schools are not going to thrive. You have to sell your school or your program so students want to come to your school; that's a given. My issue is when a student takes financial consideration that is based on the value the kid can do to the athletic program. Like a booster club paying players to come to the school, or a kid getting a full ride from the school-operated tuition assistance program cause the kid can ball, that is wrong..
  2. It was back in when MRA had just hired Forrest Williams. Bo Bounds had been harping on how so many quarterbacks were going to end up at MRA, and Bawby decided to call in and ask "Who said Williams was a QB coach, and brought up the former MRA QB who transferred to Pearl" then Bo responded with the notion that Williams always said that whoever played QB for him would throw for like 2700+ yards, and Hall says "that'll be easy in the bump and giggle league"
  3. I am curious to see how well Jacob Land coaches at Lamar. Also talking PCS, I think they will be in a similar situation that they were when Derek White took over where they had a pretty big dip in talent after Joey Hawkins retired. I think they only won 2 games, one of which was an ACCS forfeit that year. PCS in the short run, will definitely have to rebuild a bit, but in the long run, they likely will be a contender.
  4. Is he taking over boys basketball as well?
  5. In terms of the MAIS; The Ricky Black staffs at Jackson Prep have always been some of the best at halftime adjustments and such. Herbert Davis's teams have always been well-coached and his staff almost always is able to adjust, the game against Briarcrest a few years back where they came back to beat them is a prime example. Public school wise, I'd say Coach Boyles, at WC is bar none.
  6. Derek White resigned at Presbyterian Christian in Hattiesburg. This was a slightly shocking resignation. Thought he was a good coach and was doing good things after Joey Hawkins retired.
  7. I'd think it's MRA and Prep. MRA has Hubbard and the tall forward who can drain from outside. Prep has the Brent kid, and their outside shooting is hot. Regarding the CCA ordeal; I feel like we have just inconsistency with that transfer rule that exists in the MAIS. Some schools are forced to forfeit every game, while some are able to permit their violating athletes play even if they havent done the move.
  8. Home run hire for Jackson Prep. He was successful everywhere he went in Alabama.
  9. This is sickening beyond words. Special place in hell for these kind of people. Prayers for the Bayou Academy community and the victims.
  10. I smell smoke... we got a dumpster fire in Auburn.
  11. Likely the dumbest move Auburn made was cutting Malzahn loose. Look at the trends, the SEC has dramatically moved toward these high-octane spread attacks, a far cry from the pro-style, west coast offense that Harsin had on the field. Heck, they fired Malzahn for going 6-4 in a COVID-shortened season likely equivalent to an 8-4 regular season, yet Harsin barely got to 6-7 in his first year. The first losing season Auburn had since 2012, when they cut Chizik loose after Malzahn went to Ark State. Auburn is likely on a downfall here, and Harsin hopefully gets out scot free. But writing is on the wall that it'll be a rough few for War Eagle.
  12. If they promote from within, I'd say Brewer is the top odds for that. He has some head coaching experience. Or even Thompson, the OL coach. There was even a rumor going around when they hired Turner that Will Crosby would take over worst comes to worse.
  13. If he goes part-time, but he's got a pretty good gig so far at JA. I'm curious if Tyler Turner is in the running.
  14. Nowadays it's the nature of the business. There are lofty expectations from the community and fanbase, and they tend to go unrealistic at times. Honestly, Jackson Prep might be better off hiring a coach with some knowledge of the MAIS. Sean Harrison is a home-run hire, with that regard. Kind of interesting the thing about Ferrell the JA OC. There were regular times I'd be curious why he was insistent on always airing it out when he had Marcus Harris in the backfield.
  15. I think the NFC it's between TB, Green Bay, and Cowboys... Rams kind of didnt impress especially closer to the end. The AFC, I wouldn't count out the Bills, just cause of Josh Allen. That kid is going to be special. The Chiefs also; but they got pommelled with the double high and pass rush strategy. The Titans, are good, but not sold on Tannehil being anything other than a game manager for those excellent RBs they got. Steelers are terrible, and got lucky with that time out.
  16. Hearing they might have their Coach.
  17. What happens if the rumors linking Lane Kiffin to the Vikings end up. to be true?
  18. They are even opening up an elementary school, and likely just alienated FPDS with that move. Headmaster was a former board member/Prep parent, I believe. Even fans from rival schools, were irked about the way Black was pushed out. Nobody did more for JP football than Black, except maybe Carlisle who started the program.
  19. Any truth to a rumor they are trying to lure Brad Peterson back into coaching? I honestly think the best hire for Prep would be to find a veteran coach that knows the MAIS. Will be a tricky coach search for sure.
  20. This is a really odd look for Jackson Prep. I dont know if he was pushed out, or if he is leaving for another job. But Prep has gone from having a coach for 24 years, and now on their third head football coach in as many years. But there is some truth in the fact that Turner doesnt seem to stay at stints often. This coach search is going to be interesting though..
  21. Tyler Turner? He just left Prep.
  22. I concur on how good this hire is. Grand Slam hire. Learned from some of the best, played for Herbert Davis, coached under Ricky Black, and in TX, and then coached under Coach Davis again. Also a great man coming from a great family.
  23. Germantown I think is looking for a young guy who can help lure away players from going to schools like MRA and such. We saw Jackson Prep do the same bringing in Tyler Turner.
  24. Now that it's all said and done, man props to Aranda's defense. He played old school hard-nosed power football. Baylor's QB didn't look good and couldn't throw. It was basic hard nose run the ball and playing good defense. Even with Corral I think this defense would've given a lot of issues. Appears to me that a huge flashing warning sign that Ole Miss has to bring in a top-notch recruiting class, to maintain this success. With all the talent going to graduation and an unproven Charlie Weis Jr. as OC; it'll be a very consequential off-season for the Rebs.
