Is Hart giving up his state retirement to come back to Lafayette? There was a time Brookhaven Academy was a powerhouse of a school. They had two state titles within like two or three years back in 2009-2013 I think. Back when Herbert Davis and the guy who replaced him I think McCarthy was his name.
  2. It’s a great equation for a solid gig. Hattiesburg talent, and a very good track program. It seems like forever ago that they looked outstanding with Joey Hawkins, who is honestly the only coach to be consistently successful there
  3. Have we heard about who is going to this job? I think this is the third time they've had a coaching search since 2018 when Hawkins retired.
  4. Hawkins BUILT that program from scratch. It's become a degradation of the program since he retired.
  5. Is the offensive coordinator going with him? If not, Shufelt would be a candidate for head coach at RHS.
  6. Not gonna lie, MRA choked. They turned the ball over way too much.
  7. The notion that only private schools recruit is laughable at best. I've heard of plenty of recruiting on the public school side. In spite of the "argument", Herbert Davis is high on my top list. He's won everywhere he's been. Taken small schools to the big game,. Ricky Black is also a legend. Coach Goodwin is also fantastic from his record in Alabama. Lance Pogue. the Late Jack Carlisle, Mac Barnes, David Bradberry was also fantastic.
  8. So now that we have our picks, WHO WE GOT? 1A AR-Lee vs. Desoto: I have AR Lee 2A Tunica-Tallulah: I have Tallulah 3A Canton Academy- Central Holmes: I have Canton, it will be a tough game though. 4A Greenville St. Joe- Tri County: I got Tri County. 5A Simpson- Oak Forest: I think Simpson, but Oak Forest is a streaky good team that is efficient on that midline veer offense they have run for like, ever. 6A: Jackson Prep- MRA: I have MRA in a very close, good football game. Will be a defensive battle for sure.
  9. It will be tooth and nail, but I think MRA has nearly enough to pull it off. Now, I think Prep will be competitive, and might even win it. Prep hit a home run with Coach Goodwin, and Coach Davis is one of the best in the MAIS. I know a lot of people are bringing up MRA's loss to Hartfield last week, but truly I am curious if MRA doesn't get picked off at the end of the game with the short field, how the game could have ensued. Hartfield had a big-play offense, but the game was decided on that one interception. As it pertains to the Prep-MRA regular season game, it was truly a tough defensive matchup, with MRA finding a way to pull it off in the end. It'll be close, but I think MRA might pull it off. Regardless, truly a remarkable job Coach Goodwin has done to bring Prep back to the echelon that Coach Black had it at for so long.
  10. 6A is going to be a hard-fought game with Prep and MRA. It's remarkable how Coach Goodwin has brought Jackson Prep back to their normal spot. That game will be an all-time classic.
  11. Something honestly smells to high heaven. The text messages are damning.
  12. I am surprised nobody has mentioned Jackson Academy's Raider Network. Their setup, and their onscreen graphics are network broadcast-esque. Bryan Eubank and his crew do a fantastic job with it.
  13. Doubtful. MRA's coach has a good stronghold on the program, and since Madison remains the up-and-coming area, especially in light of current circumstances in Jackson, and of course that all but one of the aforementioned schools has a new coach this year. I think MRA will at least be up there for the time being. I am impressed with the new Prep coach though. JA looks abysmal.
  14. I can't even name how many times the MAIS has let the "bonafide move rule" slide? It happened multiple times. A school actually got busted playing a kid who didn't move into the house properly, but after the forfeit of two games, the student athlete was allowed to play. Also, there was a more recent time when they had an athlete who was playing there, who never even moved when he transferred. But an attorney was able to get around it. So, the bonafide move rule; has been allowed to slide, and there are countless exceptions to the rule, that its enforceability was moot. There's also a bunch of ways to get around the bonafide move rule, which have been used by several programs around the MAIS without any enforcement. The Supreme Court case said not just NIL., they said any compensation restrictions like even internships and computers and such, which opened the door to NIL deals, was in violation of antitrust law. They curtailed the amount of limitations the NCAA could put into compensation for college athletes, and honestly, the way the college sports environment is going, the amateurism that the NCAA is trying to impose down throats, is soon to be a thing of the past. THere's nothing here. This is going to continue to happen, whether people like it or not. So, it's just something to be embraced.
  15. Respectfully, we are seeing immense change in the NCAA, and its rules on remuneration for play with every year. That change has arisen since the Supreme Court struck down the "Amateur" designation, and says that kids can make money off themselves. As per Booster Clubs, these are organizations that the SCHOOL SANCTIONS. Most booster clubs are run by parents, but also are under the watchful eye of the school's athletic director. Thus, the club is an official shoot-off of the school's athletic program. Number two, if a benefactor does these things on behalf of his own self, and not on behalf of the school or the booster club, then we have no way to prove that anyone on the team sanctioned the move. It's on the private individual then. Further, remember that the NCAA is also an agency that kids sign agreements to buy into. when kids want to play college football, they must register and sign up with the NCAA Clearinghouse and such like that. high schoolers aren't signing up for the MAIS. They sign up for the schools. There is never any agreement that a parent signs that subjects their actions, or the actions of their children to the jurisdiction of the MAIS. The only theoretical enforcement mechanism is against the schools that actually sign a contractual agreement to be a part of the association. I am sure the MAIS is aware that the attempt to sanction individual boosters/parents, who mostly come from a lot of moolah, for these things will open up a huge can of worms and will result in powerful people retaliating. Further, it opens up a can of worms, if the organization is wrongfully depriving individual persons from the individual freedom to spend their money the way they want to... so thus this is just an inevitable piece of the culture.
  16. The only investigation into MRA was the one in the early 90s when the school-sponsored Booster Club that was in cahoots with the then-athletic director was paying kids to play. They cleaned house after that happened, and there has always been talk about a resurgence of it, but to not much. IN addition, the signs of faulty financial aid, are not a one-size fits all. The totality of the circumstances must be looked into. As many of these kids that go there with athletic ability who are having benefactors, there do exist kids who are on scholarship/tuition assistance for other reasons. Some schools have a tuition exchange program with certain educational employers, or have to provide tax returns and check out the financial circumstances as it pertains. As it pertains to other parents paying other kids tuitions, it happens for non-athletic reasons as well. There have been situations where a family's gone into some financial trouble and a generous benefactor offers to cover part of the bill regardless of athletic ability. Once again though, there is no agency relationship between the MAIS and the benefactor parent of the student. There's no way the school could be theoretically held culpable for the acts of a third party. The first thing the enforcement on the parent brings about, is a question of whether a man/woman has the right to spend his/her money the way he/she wants. And whether the MAIS can govern that, by the incidental fact the man/woman's kid attends a school that is a member of the MAIS. That's where the enforcement deal can go kaput.
  17. I cannot see MRA beating Oakland 48-26. Oakland is a well known national level football program out of TN, and they are well-seasoned. This will be a tough game to win, let alone win by 22.
  18. You cannot stop a generous mom/dad from paying for kids to go to school. There's an inherent freedom in how you pay their money. If they want to know that they found a way to pay for some kids education, more power to them. However, the issue is when the school-affiliated booster club provides a financial incentive. That is why MRA went down with the sanctions back in the 90s. So, the financial aid came from the school. These benefactor boosters, unfortunately are a part of it. However, the only thing that the MAIS can theoretically enforce to the full level are the school-sanctioned programs doing it.
  19. Not at all. Public schools do have an advantage in a more sizable talent pool and not having most if not all of their student intakes arrive through marketing and advertising. In addition, a school making pitches to students and parents is how these private schools stay in business. Students are drawn to private schools for different reasons, athletics, good academics, their friends going there, ability to participate in certain activities, among other reasons. Now, as it pertains to providing financial consideration to athletes solely based on their athletic abilities, that is a practice that should not be made common. However, schools just showing what they offer to students, on the academic or athletic side, without any financial remuneration seems fine by me.
  20. Yeah MRA whipped them good. They alternate between two quarterbacks, a lefty and a righty, and honestly neither of them can throw as well as the QB last year could. It looks like it's going to be a very tough year for GCS. They ran off tackle a ton with their QBs.
  21. It's definitely a good move, pushing it back. Makes the game much more comfortable for not only players and coaches, and fans, but also your cheer, dance and band members. I thought the 7:30 kickoff rule was already on the books in the MHSAA, but either way. I guess the next step for player safety will be recording how much fluid intake and recording weight coming in and out of practice is next. So sad about the kid from BHS.
  22. With Hillcrest the main issue has been the mass migration of people from that South Jackson area. People were starting to leave Hillcrest closer to 07-08 which was when you began to see the MRA, Prep and JA teams accelerate past them.

    MRA

If that's the case, it will be interesting. Super cutthroat at IMG, and we have to see how well he can showcase his abilities with an easily higher talent pool.
  24. This is not a surprise, looking at how much the per capita income of most JPS student families is. Unfortunately these inner city schools don't have the money to substantiate for frills such as athletics, when they can barely fund a passable education.

    MRA

Any of y'all see that MRA just picked up a 6'7 kid from South Jones to play football and basketball?
