I would say it seems crazy for a coach let one game decide it for him either way…. But to be honest with Kiffin that would be pretty on brand.
-
Don’t know who’s winning the game but I’m declaring State the winner of the uniform battle. That may be the worst OM uni combo I’ve ever seen. Keep it simple, stupid.
-
To this point we’ve had: Virginia Tech - James Franklin Oklahoma State - Eric Morris Now appears Arkansas is about to hire Alex Golesh. Actually like each of those hires so far quite a bit. All should have some success in those spots. Obviously the Kiffin soap opera is going to have a domino effect of some kind, we’ll find out where that saga ends soon, I presume.

Interesting that Oregon leapfrogged Oregon at 6 tonight. Not sure I agree with it, but certainly would make things hairy for OM if they somehow lost the Egg Bowl. Would still play at home as the 7 or 8 seeds but the first round opponents are likely to be much easier for the 5 and 6, so that’s who everyone will be wanting.
-
State absolutely pulled one out of the fire tonight. Down 13 to the UNO Privateers with 5 minutes left and ended up winning in overtime on a banked in 3. Major major issues with this team still… But a win is better than a loss to a team of that caliber. And they were getting run out of the gym for most of the second half. A bit of a miraculous salvage job.
-
Say what you want about the G5 and ACC bid, those teams probably will be one and done….. but the current Top 10 feels a lot stronger than last year’s playoff field and that should lead to some really compelling games, barring some late upsets.

Bama and A&M are win and in Georgia just needs one of them to lose and they’re in. OM needs a win plus losses by both A&M and Bama. Believe OM could only play Georgia if they made it to Atlanta. Don’t think there’s a scenario to OM playing A&M or Bama. We won’t know for sure who is going until late Saturday as the Iron Bowl is a Saturday night game this year.

Huge huge week on several fronts so let’s open this thing up. Egg Bowl - every time you think the result of this game is predictable and obvious, weirdness ensues. So thanks for that, Lane. I do think this has track meet potential. It may not get to that point if State’s OL takes the day off again. But State does have explosive enough playmakers to score on OM. The obvious issue for State though is a disaster of a run defense trying to stop an RB in Lacy who is playing as well as any RB in the country right now. I also think the ability of Chambliss to scramble is an issue, too. A week ago I think I would have picked Ole Miss by 3-4 touchdowns. Now, with all the distractions of this week, and with the thought that distracted coaches don’t fare well in Egg Bowls and this game was closer the last two years than it should’ve been….. I still don’t think I can pull the trigger on picking State, especially if Lebby is bound and determined to go down with the Shapen ship. But I do expect it to be close for a while, as both teams have a knack for ending up in close games. But I think OM is simply better on both sides of the ball and they are clearly the safe pick here. Ole Miss 38, State 26 Georgia vs Georgia Tech - this game went to eight overtime’s last year. But GT has a terrible defense and UGA has an offense that’s surgical right now. UGA may be playing better than anyone in the country the last 3 weeks. The other Dogs win this one by double digits. Side note, this game is being played in MB Stadium instead of on GT’s campus…. What are you doing, Tech? Why ship your biggest home game of the year off campus? Texas A&M at Texas - a win for A&M and they are on to Atlanta for the first time. A&M has benefited mightily from their SEC schedule but they are still a legit playoff team. Also, the way to exploit A&M is by running the ball and Texas isn’t very good at that. I have the Aggies winning and playing for a league title next week. Bama at Auburn - Uh oh, we all know how weird Iron Bowls at Jordan Hare can get. Auburn just made the switch to George County’s own Deuce Knight and it may have only been Mercer but he had a far more interesting performance than any other Bama QB this year. Could be wrong on this but I believe DJ Durkin may be coaching for the permanent gig in this game. He beats Bama and he’s gets the job. And you know what, I think I’m going to pull the trigger on it. Auburn with the home upset. I just have trust issues with these DeBoer Bama teams right now, and this is his first trip to the Plains. So if my prediction on this game and the A&M game are correct, the SECCG would be A&M vs Georgia and Bama would be out of the Playoff. Vandy at Tennessee: Huge game that Vandy must win for any outside playoff chances. Honestly this may end up being the best game of the weekend. I think I’m going to take Vandy here. They play a very specific way where they ball control and take advantage of mistakes, and Tennessee is a mistake prone team. I don’t know if a win here enough to put Vandy in the Playoff, they’d need help elsewhere still. But I think they can at least make it interesting. LSU at Oklahoma: Bad matchup for LSU, and MVB ain’t it. Oklahoma wins at home in probably another ugly game, but that’s the OU way this year. There are plenty of other rivalry games too and we may end up discussing some of them, but those are the bigger ones in the SEC. Did want to add one particular non-SEC game. Ohio State at Michigan - This is a way more dangerous spot for Ohio State than people are acknowledging at the moment. I mean it’s an arch rival that OSU has last to four years in a row, and it’s in Ann Arbor. OSU has also played absolutely nobody since that Week 1 Texas game And Michigan is very much alive for a Playoff spot if they can win this. I still lean OSU because I think their defense is great and not sure I trust Ohio State to do much against it. But watch out for this one, could shake up the Playoff dynamic in.a big way.

Kansas State just lost to Utah in spite of rushing for 472 yards….. 1. How on earth does that happen 2. We may be having this conversation about Ole Miss on Friday if State somehow wins the Egg. lol.
-
I am not sure where final seeding is going to shake out but whoever draws Notre Dame in the first round I feel sorry for. They lost two games to Miami and A&M early and people kinda wrote them off but they are really impressive.
-
We’ll see what happens at the end of Oregon-USC here but so far this has bull one of the dullest days of college football I can ever recall.
-
I’m not sure they’ve got the offense fixed even now. But their defense is elite, probably the best in the SEC.
-
I don’t anyone has done more to improve public perception of himself this season than Venables.
-
If he doesn’t understand then somebody in his camp (Sexton or someone else) should probably be hammering the point home…. Unless he’s decided to leave and just wants to finish the season first, which is probably the Occam’s razor with all this. At this point I’m halfway expecting him to stage a “The Decision” type ceremony a la LeBron back in the day. Or like he goes on College Gameday next Saturday and does a signing day hat ceremony. It’s truly a circus at this stage anyway so why not. lol.
-
Definitely been a weird experience because this team was supposedly built on defense and they can’t defend. Inconsistent offense is nothing new with Jans teams and that probably will never change. The defensive regression the last two years is the biggest concern for me.
-
It’s a really fair question. And makes you wonder where he’d be without four Howland holdovers sticking around for multiple years and if Josh Hubbard had not gotten out of his Ole Miss NLI. I like Jans but he’s gotta get some things figured out with the portal.
-
If this has been a long con then Kiffin might just be a sociopath. i don’t think it’s been a long con. I think if he was for sure staying, enough damage has been done to where he would’ve signed yesterday.
-
State with 3 losses before Thanksgiving…. Not a good sign. I think it’s time to temper expectations for this team majorly. They may be this year’s Missouri or South Carolina, i.e. a team with a good coach that’s good one year then falls off majorly the next year…. Kinda feeling like this is the fall off year. Not saying it’s a permanent fall off for Jans… But I don’t see a tourney team with this roster and right now I’m not sure I see a .500 overall team.
-
And look, I still don’t think State is winning the Egg Bowl… But if you were to draw up a path for it happening, something like today is a big part of it. .. The Kiffin cloud continuing to linger. Distracted coaches in Egg Bowls do not exactly have the best track record. Ask Tommy Tuberville, Dan Mullen, and 2022 Lane Kiffin.
-
I don’t think you can totally rule out him staying because even though logic tells you he’s probably headed to LSU, this dude clearly does not operate like a normal, rational thinking human being. That said…. This is who this guy is at this point. And any attempts to convince you he was a changed man were just flat out wrong. If he stays at Ole Miss, he will put them through a similar saga again in a year or two. If he leaves for LSU, he’ll put them through it to when something like the Bama or Texas job opens up, or he’ll get an NFL itch at that point. I compared it to Mullen’s yearly flirtations while at State… But Mullen never insulted his fanbase’s intelligence to this degree.
-
World’s softest ultimatum just dropped, apparently…. Cannot believe that statement from Carter. It totally makes it seem like Kiffin is walking all over him right now.
-
I’m not to the point of turning on Jans but I do think it’s getting fair to question his talent acquisition via the portal and HS recruiting. He’s been carried by some guys he inherited from Howland (now all gone) and Josh Hubbard. There have not been a bunch of big hits in terms of newcomers over the years.
-
I do think Kansas State is a quality team, lot of scorers. But yeah, State’s definitely got issues. The game against New Mexico tomorrow night really feels like an early must win for the season, as much as you hate to say that this early. But they are in danger of free falling quickly with this schedule if they don’t get it figured out soon.
-
The Matt Zenitz story about Kiffin possibly wanting Orgeron on his hypotethical LSU staff definitely turned some heads tonight. We may know a lot more in the next 24-48 hours, one way or the other, based off speculation today. Regardless of how it goes, I think Kiffin has objectively handled it all poorly and Ole Miss fans are justified in however they feel about him, good or bad.

He may stay but I’m not sure I buy the chest being that big.
