I have no love for Ole Miss whatsoever but there are people on this site and friends of mine who love them a great deal so that’s cool for those guys. I’m obviously tremendously jealous but hey at least my team has mayonnaise to play for lol.
-
Indiana bending Alabama over backwards and totally humiliating them. Don’t think there will be many Hoosier skeptics after today. Oregon handled Texas Tech earlier today. Thought that one would’ve been closer but Tech’s offense had an abysmal showing.
-
Ohio State by a TD. Just don’t trust Beck and Cristobal enough in this spot. Texas Tech beats Oregon. I think they are the sleeper to make a DEEP run in this. Indiana beats Bama. If it were Nick Saban Bama I’d feel differently I think. But this is a very beatable Bama and IU is absolutely a legit title contender. I lean Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. Just a tough ask of Golding in his second game as a HC. But if there’s one thing working in OM it could be perhaps UGA comes out rusty and OM builds an early 14 to 20 point lead that they could be in a position to hang on to

Memphis is an under .500 team. Georgia Tech has played an atrocious schedule. I too was a little surprise that Utah isn’t rated higher. They do have a decent neutral site win over Ole Miss.
-
Both State and OM made it through the nonconference with records that aren’t just total disasters…. But both will need really strong showings in SEC play to even sniff making the NCAAT. State and OM combined for zero Q1 or Q2 wins in nonconference play. Sheesh.
-
I see more 2016 than 2013. And unexpected bowl bid with a young QB, and an improved DC coming in next year, should give State at least a chance to jump from 5-6 wins to 7 or 8 wins if more improvement is made next year,
-
I disagree. You go undefeated with nonconference wins like those, you’d be in the playoff without question. The reason people have such a problem with Tulane is they got smoked twice in the regular season. And the only team with a pulse JMU played all year was an unranked Louisville, and they lost that game by two scores. If you go undefeated as a G5 team, you’d certainly have my attention. But im much less interested in two loss teams that couldn’t stay within three touchdowns of UTSA, which was Tulane this year.
-
I don’t have an issue with a DESERVING G5 team getting a playoff bid. There have been those historically. Any number of Chris Petersen Boise State teams would’ve been worthy playoff teams if it has existed at the time. TCU had some great teams with Andy Dalton when they were still in the Mountain West. UCF had its two year undefeated run. Heck Cincinnati actually did make a 4 team playoff in 2021. Those teams were or would’ve been deserving….Tulane and James Madison getting token auto bids when their seasons did not really justify it, was in my eyes a disaster for the G5.

I love the slate of four games in the quarterfinals. All of them look really intriguing on paper.
-
I don’t think it would have mattered today. Georgia game would’ve been tough for sure though. And still will be

Miami takes down A&M and will face Ohio State next. Ole Miss vs Tulane feels like a waste of time early. lol.
-
Because Indiana has beaten two teams better than Alabama.
-
Time will tell on Golding the actual HC, and good or bad it’s probably not fair to judge based off what may or may not happen in this playoff run. That said, can’t really argue with many of his staff hires. On paper it’s a strong staff.
-
Really nice comeback. I think they’ve done too much damage to make the NCAAT without a crazy run in SEC play. but the hope is maybe they can win out the rest of nonconference and put together a decent enough conference record to make the NIT
-
If that’s in fact true, Ole Miss wins that trade IMO. Frank Wilson is awesome. I know State was targeting Washington for their WR coach opening. We will see where they go now.
-
Appears that USM’s next head coach will be Blake Anderson. I think I really like this move, to be honest. High floor coach that has won three conference titles in the G5. I believe he will keep up the positive momentum that Huff kicked off.
-
Anyone else surprised at Golding’s contract? $6.8 million seems quite high for a “never been a head coach” type of hire that certainly would come with some risk. I guess when you put it in the context of he’s about the 4th lowest paid coach in the league even at $6.8 million, it doesn’t seem as bad. I’m not sure what Clark Lea’s new salary at Vandy is, he may be making more than Golding. But otherwise I believe Lebby, Silverfield, and Stein would be the only coaches making less than Pete. Assuming Lea got a big raise, Lebby is probably the lowest paid coach in the league with room to spare…. But hard to argue with it given his record through two years.
-
Kiffin: I’m about to have the craziest coaching carousel drama you’ve ever seen. Sherrone Moore: Hold my beer
-
According to Lebby, Kamario and Kromenhoek are the only two scholarship QB’s traveling to the bowl game. Shapen has already left the team. Thus completely ends the era of one of the stranger MSU QB experiences I can recall.
-
John David Baker hired as OM’s new OC. I guess that officially ends the “Charlie Weis is actually staying” rumor mill.

Holecek may one of the most nondescript assistant coaches State has ever had. If he’s gone, I guess that’s fine. I don’t know the first thing about him and don’t feel that he’s made that strong of an impression at all. Some people are very upset about the Bumphis thing… I personally think it depends on the next hire but I’m not sure I was ever sold on him being that great. I don’t think he’s a bad coach but I always felt like his impact in recruiting and development was very overrated. State has had a ton of HS receivers not pan out in the last few years, and I”m not sure that Chad was super involved in some of the transfers they’ve brought in. I hope there are other staff changes to come too, this was the weakest coaching staff in the SEC the last two years and it needs to be shaken up quite a bit. Sounds like Bumphis is UNLV bound for a reunion with Mullen. State people tend have blinders on when it comes to former players who are in coaching. People mostly remember Bumphis as our best WR in the early Mullen era and somehow conflate that with he’s been a really good coach too. I like Chad as a person but I just don’t see it that way.

In 2023 Will Hall went 3-9 at USM In 2024 he started 1-6 before being fired And before the end of 2025 he has been named the HC of a literal Playoff team. There is some major WTF on that one, if you ask me.
-
It appears Tulane is hiring Will Hall as their head coach. Would be fascinated to get thoughts from a USM fan on that.
-
May be a tough winter for hoops in Mississippi. State is 4-5. Ole Miss, after starting 5-0, has lost 4 in a row.
-
I like their head coach a lot. Jacob Dickert will be at a big job within a few years if he wants it. They went 4-8 the two prior years and flipped it to 8-4 in his first season this year.
