  1. State will be playing Wake Forest. Rematch of the 2011 Music City Bowl. They have a really weird resume. Some good wins and perplexing losses. I know their QB is Robby Ashford so the two QB’s in this game may rush for 400 yards.
  2. It’s official, State is going to the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. ACC opponent announced later. Sure why not. lol.
  3. 2020 as well (weird year with COVID but State went 3-7 and made a bowl game because so many teams were opting out of them).
  4. Also don’t look now but State is possibly about to backdoor into a bowl game at 5-7 again. Kansas State and Iowa State have both declined bowl bids, if anyone else backs out (maybe a grumpy Notre Dame?) then State is in. Is that pathetic? Yes! Do I think it would be good for State’s freshman QB and returning players to get the experience of playing in one? Also yes.
  5. Good call, sir. So I presume an Ole Miss/Georgia rematch in the Sugar Bowl is incoming. That will be an incredible atmosphere.
  6. Duke beats Virginia. Wow. So an Ole Miss vs Tulane rematch in Oxford. I.e. I would go ahead and book your hotel rooms for the second round game, OM fans.
  7. Yeah I think it will be 1. Indiana 2. Georgia 3. Ohio State Which, if that’s the case, OM’s second playoff game would likely be Ohio State in the Orange Bowl.
  8. I get the resume thing and I’m not saying that doesn’t matter but watching all three teams in the last month, I think Notre Dame and Miami would both beat Bama by 10+. My suspicion is Notre Dame gets in at 9 and they drop Bama to 10 to basically serve as a buffer between ND and Miami and it keeps the Canes out. And the justification will be they didn’t make the title game of a weak conference.
  9. Georgia looks like they are poised to last for a while in this playoff. Meanwhile, I think it’s time to to discuss whether a 3 loss Bama belongs in this thing. They have looked really bad over the last month and you’ve got Miami and Notre Dame right there as worthy options.
  10. If the SECCG score holds (Georgia currently up 14-0 on Bama) then the scenario at the 5 and 6 line is pretty simple. Oregon would remain the 5 and OM remains the 6. If Virginia wins tonight: Tulane at Oregon, Virginia at Ole Miss If Duke wins tonight: JMU (or a 5 loss Duke) at Oregon, Tulane at Ole Miss Boy do the 5 and 6 seeds have it good in this current format.
  11. Well, Derrick Nix not going back to OM may suddenly make a lot more sense. Gotta think he will be in the mix for this job at the very least.
  12. And it appears we will have a USM coaching search now… Charles Huff to Memphis in the closing stages. Huff is the embodiment of the phrase “here for a good time, not for a long time”. Lol
  13. Cannot believe I’m typing this, but Zach Arnett is returning to State as defensive coordinator. Liked him as Leach’s DC, I genuinely did…. But I am SHOCKED by this on many many levels.
  14. Tulane officially in the Playoff. Will either be the 11 or 12 seed defending on what happens tomorrow. If chalk holds that would probably put them playing Oregon in Eugene. But rematch with OM not off the table.
  15. From all indications if Golesh had not retained him, good chance he’d be at State. But Golesh decided to stick with him and I presume a coach like him that’s worked all over the country for a long time probably doesn’t want to relocate his family anymore than necessary.
  16. Matt Campbell to Penn State appears to be happening. Honestly a really good hire after a mess of a search. On the DC front, State appears to be chasing bigger names. Went after Durkin first and supposedly have been in discussions with Brent Pry this week. We will see how that shakes out. They really need to get this one right.
  17. I think you can argue Penn State’s expectations are on par with Bama’s. Franklin won 13 games last year and lost in the Playoff semifinals on a last second field goal… only to not survive the month of October the following year.
  18. Not overly worried about Lebby being able to bring in quality skill position guys. But State will need a lot of adds at the LOS and in the secondary.
  19. May be some artificial inflation going on due to how big the class is. 30 commits. Once you factor in portal guys there’s a pretty good chance State has 50-60 new players on the roster next year. Roster limits are 105 now so there’s going to be a ton of movement everywhere. This portal cycle will be nuts.
  20. State’s class was looking like a disaster until recently but they’ve done good work to save it late. Flipping Womack from Auburn and Nickerson from Mizzou by far the most notable transpirings. Essentially took State from a well below average class ranking to one that’s far more consistent with what they typically do.
  21. Some truth in that, though the opportunity to win a conference title is still appealing to many.
  22. Not just hosting but probably hosting somebody from the ACC or G5, if they remain at 6. And you’d likely avoid the SEC & Big 10 champs in the QF if you advance. Looking at who still has a game to play, Bama at 9 feels like the only school that could probably pass OM if they win the SEC championship. Even then OM would still be the 7 seed, but the matchup in the 7 vs 10 game would likely be a good bit tougher than the 6 vs 11 game. I mean it could quite literally be the difference in playing North Texas or playing Notre Dame. So, if you are an OM fan, feels like you probably want to be rooting for Georgia to win in Atlanta. If chalk holds this weekend, Virginia would probably be the 11 seed coming to Oxford. Good team, has had an awesome season relative to their recent history, but their 28th in SP+ which is one spot ahead of 5-7 Auburn. Ole Miss is 7th in SP+. So hypothetically, OM is probably a double digit favorite or close to it if that were the game. Don’t ask me what happens if a currently 7-5 Duke were to win the ACC title. Lol.
  23. Looks like Weis eventually going to LSU but will coach OM in the playoff. How nice of Kiffin to let him OM borrow Weis a few more weeks. What a great guy!***
  24. Will Stein (Oregon OC) is Kentucky’s hire. These things are never a sure thing…. But don’t be shocked in a couple of years if this ends up being one of the better hires from this cycle.
  25. Looking like Bob Chesney of James Madison to UCLA. Like the coach a lot, but that will definitely be a tough job. Rumored to be trending toward Kalani Sitake of BYU to Penn State. I think he’s a really good coach, that would be an interesting fit though. BYU alum, coached out West his whole career, then is the the head coach at the foremost program in Pennsylvania? Hmm.
