  1. I am glad we are getting away from you guys for a couple years. I mean that with all due respect. Good luck to the teams in 5a, West Point should be hard to deal with a young talented team. Good luck and so long for a few years.
  2. I like W's and State Championships over style of play. Gulfport should be in position for a deep run in the playoffs every year. I know in '77 when Gulfport and Gulfport East consolidated they were considered state champions pre playoff days of course but nothing since in football. Going to play em in B. Frank Brown in basketball is a different story though!!!
  3. The defense gave up 2 big pass plays and that was it. Coaches had a great scheme. The ability to get pressure with the 3 down lineman was really big. They need to play with same intensity on Friday.
  4. It has happened, but its been a while. I'm old enough to remember when the coast teams were actually really good but times have changed.
  5. Picayune will play Ocean Springs in a non district game next year and they will play Brandon the first week of the season.
  6. Some of these fans and posters are really goofballs and probably never played a down of football since pee wee ball. This will be a hardnose tough game hopefully the Tide can make it 2 in row against a worthy program.
  7. Coach Gant was only there for 1 year and he coached 8th grade which was separated from 9th grade. Dodd Lee' s dad Ezell along with Jimmy Hancock had some great 9th grade teams. It is ironic that Dodd Lee and Joe Gant went in Hall of Fame the same year.
  8. Believe it or not he started his career as a junior high football coach and high school track coach at Picayune in the mid '70s after a stellar track decathlon career at Mississippi State. Moved back up to his old stomping ground and well I would say he did alright for himself. Was inducted to Mississippi High School coahes Hall of Fame this summer.
  9. What you say really rings true because I was told his old high school in Pearl River county tried to get him to come back home. Let's just say he said no thanks. That program has struggled for several years mainly cause they don't have the Jessie's and Joes.
  10. The coach at Scott Central wins everywhere he goes.
  11. You are so right and to think that they were going to blowout Laurel is just asinine and Laurel at a 4 seed is a tough 1st round match up. I heard Todd Breland on an interview the morning of the Laurel game say that they still had as much talent is anyone in the region and could have been a #1 seed, It will be tough this week again and what hurt the Tide was a weak schedule they had for 4 or 5 weeks were the starters were only playing half a game. I still think they have plenty in the tank going forward.
  12. Don't look like a hot clock though, it's been a tough game
  13. Laurel hanging in there they playing the Tide tough. Tough 1st round game.
  14. There is a lot that going around ill informed opinions that are trying to be humorous I guess.
  15. If you look back over the years Picayune has been better between the bricks than at home and I hope the kids don't have an attitude that the game is over. They are still Laurel and the game has to be played.
  16. I don't think they use hot clock in playoffs and I don't think Coach Stogner would like to look at it that way at all.
  17. Picayune won a state championship in 2013 against the Oxford Chargers who were led by D.K. Metcalf. So they were pretty good that year. I do believe there were 4 state championship teams in the Forest and Pearl River Counties.
  18. I do know if 5A played on Thursday so there would be enough good officials to cover playoffs and the other important games leading to playoffs then we are in trouble. Officiating as a whole has been trending downward for a few years. A lot of the old veterans have retired and it shows. There is one crew on the coast that is really good without saying to much but its 2 bothers and they let the kids play. What is really disturbing is that the officials on the sideline by the team gets really influenced or intimidated by the coachs. Pass interference has become a complete joke.
  19. . That is a brutal first round game either way but I believe the Gautier game will prepare the Tide for the playoffs.
  20. Great point and as the temperature drops that ole pigskin gets slick and harder to catch, but I will say Gautier was impressive. When someone scores 48 on you its hard to say they played good defense but they made the Maroon Tide work hard for every yard. Greatgame
  21. 7a 2 is by far the best Region top to bottom. You come out of there on top and you earned it.
  22. He's Mr. Hattiesburg Tiger he's always there he was there when I played and they had Billy Harrington and Clemon Terrell in the backfield. That was instant migrane when you hit those guys.
  23. Watched O.S. 9th grade last week and they looked good, the kid playing QB is a stud has all the tools to be a very effective replacement for Hubbard next year. I think O.S. has developed a culture in the lower grades to make them a force for years to come. I think reclassification is really gonna help teams like O.S. and Picayune because they won't have to play as many weak district games. May have to cross that Pearl River and play some of those recruiting teams in La.
  24. Can you translate I'm not sure i understand what he's talking about.
