  1. A few big games this season but everything so far has gone pretty much like you think it would. Can anyone pull off the miracle upset ? 1. Picayune- If the schedule was a interstate the Tide would be in the right lane with the cruise and steering assist on while reading MST. Host #2 East Central- I think this game will be kind of like beating up your little brother. You don’t really want to hurt him. 2. East Central- Y’all did good holding this spot but reality is coming after the bus ride this week. It’s time to bend the knee. @Picayune- I think if they can hold Picayune under forty points you go back to Hurley and lick your wounds without being devastated. 3. West Jones- definitely on the rise. The Mustang defense ripped Natchez last Friday. @South Jones- if I know Pierson he won’t play his starters but a series or two . The trail of tears continues for Coach Breland. 4. Gautier- Yes they are winning but is that muscle or fat they are putting on from feeding on sweet pastries. host West Harrison. Another slice of angel food cake 5. Wayne County- I thought about moving them over West Point but concluded that the win over Florence was better than the win over New Hope. @Brookhaven- on paper Wayne should dominate but Ol Brook is the kind of place if you take it for granted it won’t turn out good. Brookhaven is a poor man’s Pascagoula. 6. West Point- Tuning up and getting swole for the playoffs. Host Cleveland Central . They have hung tough with everyone lately but this is a fight they should stay down in. Best they can do is have something left for the rest of the way. 7. Callaway - They continue to win but are they simply one of the best of the worst. @Vicksburg. This goes for both teams. Dominate in this game and I will start to take you serious. 8. Florence - They put on new goggles after last Friday and it revealed the meat grinder district they are in. host Hattiesburg. Don’t want to say this is a must win but I think it is. Lose and every Friday will be a elimination game the rest of the way. This game will tell me where the Tigers stand too. 9.Ridgeland - They have been eating pastries too. But this week…… @ Neshoba Central. These two don’t like each other while going a long way in determining playoff seeding and pecking order. Ridgeland is fighting for their place in this poll. 10. Vicksburg- another low key tough team with the screws being tightened as the season goes on. hosts Callaway. Here’s your chance to prove yourself. This game has similarities to Wayne and Florence last week. Can you take the next step ?
  2. Last Friday went pretty much as expected. There will be a little bit of a shakeup with some teams moving up.There will also be some marquee matchups this Friday. I will think about it till Tuesday or Wednesday then try to scribe it out.
  3. Their offense never put it in the end zone
  4. I tip my hat to Florence. They are a handful. You better be able to play defense or they will beat you.. Jalen war Jones. I’ve been saying it for two years. Kid is all state as a sophomore. That last TD there were three guys on him and he bodied two of them out and outjumped them all. He shows up every game. I’m glad we got that one behind us. I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see Florence again. They started running our offense after we played them last season and it showed. They knew what we were going to run but our defense knew them too. It finally came down to a war of toughness and we won but it wasn’t a cakewalk. Very well coached and don’t make game killing mistakes. They fumbled a punt in the fourth quarter and it cost them. They have the best kickoff return game I’ve seen since the old Moss Point days. Squib it . Do not kick it to them .
  5. Wayne County 21 Florence. 15. Final. you haven’t heard the last from Florence. Very good football team.
  6. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/wayne-county-war-eagle-football-tickets-429474398487?fbclid=IwAR3Iie_0tHIRVKN9i7VoG58chiSnMuKykAymKdbuWzVAKLkKQPCDuA88iOU Here is the link for tonight. It's ten dollars to watch clear video with better views than in person if you cant make it to the game. Video feed will start at 730 sharp.
  7. We got four buses going to all points of Wayne County tomorrow picking up War Eagles and transporting them to game. Everyone you talk to is planning to be in the stadium . The tailgate area is starting to get cranked back up(thanks to Coach Hankins for making it happen) and the grills will be smoking. Most all of our former players are going to be there and the ones that have passed on will,be looking on too. Big Jerell Powe is already back and forth out of the stadium and field house tidying things up. Someone told me he still has the door off of Brookhavens field house and uses it as the door on his utility shed. Ced Jones our great defensive end from our first title team is the father of #12 our great sophomore receiver. I heard he’s pacing back and forth like a caged jungle cat. I pretty sure Brett Hyatt from that great West Jones we battled with at that time just peed down his leg a little when I typed big Ceds name. . The band is getting back together tomorrow evening because of the importance of this game. Everyone senses it’s time for our team to take the next step. I really wish I could be there to see and fellowship with my old friends and lift up our team. I am thankful that I can watch the spectacle on the pay per view provided by Ms WABO 1. I can feel the electricity brewing from this far away. So come on down to the cow pasture Florence and take in the environment. If you leave undefeated you will have earned it but I don’t that you can. This place won’t look like when you played at Magee
  8. Homecoming won’t be an issue with our coaches. They know what’s at stake here too. This is a leg up towards the playoffs and a win will come in handy down the line. What’s everyone’s thoughts ? No hard feelings either way. I don’t go out on limbs on here very much when it comes to Wayne County. I think we will see the team that played Oak Grove again Friday night .This time without the fumbles which will be more the enough. I think Wayne County is going to bad matchup for these guys.
  9. I like the way you worded that youngun. “ I’m going to sit this one out “ . Sitting where ? Come back to the game’s man. We need yo boots on the ground. This gal must be something. She got you tied down like a roped calf.
  10. Instead of a tip jar I will set up a gosausageme account at Fortenberrys and I will just swing by and get the bounty. I just had an epiphany. Why not have a business or food establishment sponsor it each week The only fee would be they had to feed me one meal or something else, free gas they could sponsor me to go to a game of the week. IDK just throwing stuff out there but Slicks 5A Fortenberry Primo 10 ranking, Slicks 5A Cooley Hamburger’s Backstreet top 10, Slicks 5A Pilot Travel Center rolling top 10 Rankings, Slicks 5A Popeyes top ten piece rankings. Just throwing it out there. I’ve got them in that spot for a reason. It’s true they have the potential but they always do. Then as the season goes on their defense like wears down .They start giving up. more and more points until it’s finally just their QB running all over the place trying to keep up. Winning games 44- 28, 38-30 or similar. That’s unsustainable in the playoffs. You will play someone that will shut your offense down and if you are sitting there with that defense you going home. At South state last season Picayune offense scored a couple of times late to come from behind but it was that defense that stepped it up and put a stop to high octane Laurel. Defense. You have to have it. They are in position to rise up with the cream rapidly or tumble back down that hill rapidly too. Like you said we will see. There used to be a guy that posted on here from Gautier . He had something to do with media at the school or something similar. I met him one time at a playoff game. Good dude.
  11. Ok thanks. It wouldn’t be a slick poll if I didn’t miss at leas one thing. Couple of clicks. Same result.
  12. Last Friday some fell off the cliff into the darkness while some got a grip, pulled their selves upon the cliff and seen what the landscape looks like from above. Laurel is descending with their coaching staff. Anyone objectively paying attention could see it coming. They haven’t hit rock bottom yet but it’s fast approaching. One liners are welcome this week if y’all can lift that rock you are hiding under. West Harrison was unmasked and I couldn’t leave them in over any of these other teams. 1. Picayune - do y’all ever feel the weight of that crown y’all have on and are y’all ever going to run out of great tailbacks ? @Vancleave- just start the JV . There is no need for the varsity to have contact. 2. East Central - keep the seat warm for West Jones. Depth and defense are glaring holes but you are winning. Host PRC - Bring a thermos of Colombian coffee and a bottle of no doze. Probably running clock at some point. 3. West Jones - I was seriously impressed the other night night in Brookhaven. Their defense is big, rugged and dominating. Their QB can throw the football really well and their oline was pushing some big cornfeds around. Eye test they are clearly number two. Hosts Natchez. It’s easy to see how that will turn out. 4. Gautier - I feel like they are too high. Their defense is suspect @ Long Beach Just a big Krispy Creme after a ride down the coast. 5. Florence- They have won their way to this spot. You beat a team with battered wife syndrome in Laurel but you get credit for it. @ # 7 Wayne County . This won’t be like playing Jim Hill or @ Magee. Wayne County is a battled tested deep team wit a couple of scars. Their is a lot of buzz about this game already in the county. You are walking into a hornet’s nest. Let’s see what you got. 6. West Point - They thumped Lafayette like a good team should have but how much of a challenge is Lafayette ? Speaking of Laffy, talking about a team falling off the cliff. @ New Hope. The West Point I have always seen will roll a team like New Hope. 7. Wayne County _ almost made Coach Breland cry last Friday He didn’t even get mad all game. Like a pit on a chain. That’s why I just moved them up in conjunction with the drop outs. Host #5 Florence . No way I’m picking against the War Eagles. We are coming back to our stadium after two weeks against a team that….may be good. The old Wayne County would have had these pretenders cranking the bus by halftime. You want to be great ? This is the first step. One thing you cant say is that you never had the chance. 8. Calloway - They have beat some people and are undefeated. Beyond that , I know nothing. Host- Jim Hill elementary so they should stay undefeated. 9. Ridgeland - Defense can’t hold up in a low scoring game. I feel like their defense is better than Vancleave’s so I put them here. Host Wilkinson County- This is basically a pack of Cinnamon rolls so they should feel better after Friday. 10. Vancleave - By those scores they don’t have the defense for 5A but could pull off a miracle against a couple teams just above them. Enjoy this week. You’re going to kicked back off the cliff. Hosts Picayune. Good night sweet prince.
  13. They are not going to like their trip down to the cow pasture this Friday. That Laurel game was perfect for them. Team that scores quick ,fumbles a lot and gives the ball right back to their offense. They will have to execute all game mistake free. Laurel defense is full of slow heavy D’s too. The War Eagles are not. They will come get you. I know they are probably riding high but our coaches are looking to make this a statement game in our classification, so we will see. I was eating tamales and running with the natives at that time and only stated coming back around with Bobbyn Hall. But yea Wayne County was a laughing stock for a long time. We go back to kids. If anybodys got the scars it you
  14. I know you read this board .The lines I wrote about you are buried in that war and peace sized manuscript in the other thread. I am going to put them here. I haven’t seen you in a long time. You were a part of Wayne County success at one time. I meant what I said in the title. You have got more titles left in you. You know it deep down. It’s a noble thing you are doing. I would do the same thing but that chapter is going to close one day. When it does you go to a place where the administration wants to win and get some pieces again You were a tough SOB at Laurel and you have more of that in you. I know that chapter is closed in Laurel but there is better out there . There is a lot I don’t know about your situation so I won’t go further than that. I’m writing this because it was tough to see you in that role the other night. It was much better when you were the villain. Just please don’t go to Petal. If this oversteps any boundaries just message me and I will take it down .
  15. Take your one liners back to Facebook
  16. We are going to have a contest on what your next name will be when you come back. if you just come back just to lurk. I told you. Falling. This is Tornado football .
  17. I am going to start on the new poll maybe Monday and try to have it out by Wednesday. My whole takeaway for our region from Friday night was West Jones is going to be a handful. Until then there are few things that we need to revisit below.
  18. My plan was to watch this game between the bricks, there was one minor problem. There was no game between the bricks. I just went with this thread title and planned it. After a lunch meeting in Laurel with my buddies one asked me what I was doing that evening I told them to the game and they said there was no game there tonight. They were right. So I went and visited with my brother for a few hours and it was better than any game could have ever been. Then I headed out. Any way Laurel lost.Good. No defense.
  19. I think you are probably right. The one thing I’m find in dabbling with writing is not coming up with content, it’s parsing it down in developing a story. I didn’t know how those people write the screen plays for movies.
  20. I’m intrigued by the matchup between the bricks and will be there. Next chapter of , we’ll I don’t have a title to it yet I will put them out as I can write them and the story comes to me. I try to compose on day per week.We will see where it goes. If there are syntax errors you will just have to deal with them. The rain had just stopped as I slow rolled my truck up the bumpy blacktop lane winding through the pines . WABO1 had worn out a lot of stuff returning to his lifelong home down here on this same ancient trail. My truck was freshly washed and I didn’t want any splash caused by acceleration to put a gray film on the chrome. The silence of movement facilitated by wet pine straw has been the downfall of many a good old boy in the thickets growing stuff. You can’t hear anything moving up on you and your voice carries like talking in church. This was the case as I headed to the front of the house Something huffed on my hand from behind then a wet muzzle “kissed” my palm all in a millisecond. Old man JR had quietly loped up behind me . I turned and faced him .At fourteen his once jet black coat was salt and pepper now as his muzzle was turning white down to an even whiter beard. It seems to be getting lighter every time I see him. The fire of a young buck still burned in his eyes though as he looked at me from head to toe then looked me dead in the eyes with his ears cocked up a little. He gave me the impression of saying “Well , are you ready ? “ JR had seen it all from us at one time or another. The love, the hate, the tears , the fights, the agony, the loneliness, the forgiveness, the love , the redemption , the happiness , the peace and the thankfulness.JR was one of us and time was taking its toll on him too. People said that he was deaf from being around so many gunshots but that wasn’t true. As only the wisdom age can bring, JR heard what he chose to hear from an ever decreasing circle of sources. The high pitch vibrating whine of an electric power tool broke the wet stillness. JR bolted down the hill towards the canebrake in pursuit of something most likely startled by the noise. I pivoted and headed towards the noise and the back of the house. That splash had got my truck dirty. WABO1’s shirtless torso was covered in dust being kicked up from the hand sander he was easing back and forth on a thick slab of wood. I paused upon the concrete that was the floor of this covered porch and the expansive shed behind it. He kept sanding until he reached the far side of the wood and stopped. When he removed the clear glasses on his now dust covered face he squinted from the sweat that ran in his eyes. It looked like a mask from some sci-fi movie with the pristine eye area set against the yellow dust clinging to his beard. Like his old dog, he looked me up and down then in the eye and said “ I see you paid enough attention when you were little not to stand close to a tool being operated without goggles on “Yes and to wash all your stuff before you store it away or you won’t have it for long. “ I shot back. “Did JR say hello to you “ ? He asked. “He got the jump on me but was happy to see me “. I answered. “That old Romeo is starting to show his years. He stumbled the other day bringing those steers up and got kicked down hard. He’s been stiff moving ever since”. He said in a somber tone. That was all he said about it and I really didn’t want to discuss it . That’s the kind of thing you just deal with when nature directs you to. He slapped the smooth piece of wood and said “ They were using these as forms for that house they are building when you turn off the lake road coming in here. I stopped and asked for them if they were not going to re use them. They told me to take what I wanted. Look at that grain in them. I couldn’t let them burn these. I thought I would make some cabinets out of them. “ They were nice , old growth long leaf pine. You could smell the pine sap in them profoundly. The mosquitoes and gnats would never bother you working around that stuff. Visitors locker room in Pascagoula are under the stands and everyone on that end of the stadium has to pass within steps of it. Last season and this Coach Hankins was kind of hands off with this group as kids as far as getting after them. He stated before that they would address their issues as a team amongst themselves and he didn’t really get dramatic. Last Friday after the game that locker room door was closed but you could hear coach booming like a wartime general. There was no berating. Just stating facts about responsibility to your teammates, commitment, mindset and what it was going to take going forward. IDK but something about that tone made me want to go home and do better too, lol, This Friday is another road game. Something we have struggled with. There shouldn’t be a struggle with a team in turmoil like the Braves. I know you are reading this Coach Breland. We raised you up in Wayne County. You are good at what you do. It’s a noble thing being there with your kids, I would do it too. Finish what you are doing there then go get another trophy. You have still got it .The administration there doesn’t deserve a winner like you. Just don’t go to Petal, lol. He looked back own at the wood then back up at me and pointed with his chin towards the area for used up equipment down the hill. I knew his meaning . He was gauging my interest in that damned junked out bus. “Why “ I asked. “ Redemption “ he shot back.” Any redemption I may or may not need doesn’t have anything to do with that damn bucket of rust “ I said chuckling. He smiled and shook his no, “ it’s not about you . I need your help. It’s a reclamation “, he said in a hushed voice. “That’s all you had to say, point me in the right direction “ I quickly stated. His beard of dust parted even more with a big grin. “You had to make me spell it out for you didn’t you “ There is more to this than you are thinking. We will get to it after the game in Ellisville. Your jelly is on that table with the vice in there. Now grab that water hose and spray me off. This humidity is terrible “ I sprayed him down like a show bull with the dust piling up at his now bare feet . He was shaking off like a big dog as I rolled the hose up when a loud sharp metallic crack came from down the hill. Then another one more sharp this time. WABO moved swiftly to jump in the Gator side by side and started it while yelling at me “Let’s go “. We quickly bounced down the hill and were met with JR lumbering up the grade towards us. He wheeled and got in behind us.WABO turned the switch off and silent rolled to where the dilapidated, half orange bus sat with the brush now cleared out and away from it. A motor swayed on a chain above the empty engine bay suspended off of the tractor front end loader. There was a figure on his knees by the back of the tractor. I knew his face. I looked at WABO in disbelief. What the hell had I just gotten myself into ?
  21. That’s a good idea but maybe we can do it in the region thread . I would like to keep this thread about poll teams only to help formulate the poll for the next week. I’m going to start a discussion in this thread after Friday night to get insight on any games of significance. That looks good. It looks like a lot of eyes are going to be on Florence at Laurel.
  22. Which team will fall the farthest after Friday ? Everyone has looked at the poll by now and have discerned their feelings about who is ranked or not. I think every week I am going to pick three games that are interesting in the poll and throw them out to get everyones feelings on them. Chime in with your thoughts and please no gotchas if some of us inevitably pick wrong. Maybe we all can learn something about teams we may not be familiar with. Easy one first I think West Harrison at East Central_ East Central will retain their spot and Cinderella will go home with a pounded pumpkin. How smashed the pumpkin is will determine the distance WH falls Florence at Laurel - I admit knowing very little about Florence but this is a big game for Ryan Earnest. His defensive philosophy is on the ropes right now. I have to be up that way and want to go to this game. We will be playing right up the street at South Jones. I will have to classify this a s field research or WABO1 will tie me to the whipping post for not being with them. I need to lay eyes on these teams. I think Laurel squeezes this out and we are still scratching our heads about Laurel. Florence falls from their spot. West Point at Lafayette- Does Lafayette deserve to be in the poll if they win this ? I don't think we will have to deal with that dilemma as the Point starts getting their region by the neck again and moves up a couple of spots
  23. From a personal standpoint I hope so because it would bring them back to where there would some easy trips for me .I don’t think it can though. The pine belt will have too many teams to replace to not put us in the mix. Merlin give me a projected region a while back and man was it weak sauce. Actually these kids need to play someone like you guys. You cant be good until you see what good is. School would be in that’s for sure. Honestly this team isn’t ready and I don’t think they will by the end of the year either When another team gets a good play on them, they lose a little focus for the next play. Not all the time but enough that when you play people that are executing as good as you, it will get you beat 75% of the time. Thats youth and its just going to take games to get past it. Don’t get me wrong in the next two or three seasons we got some kids everyone is going to know their names. A lot of people just don’t know how mishandled things had been the years after Coach Mangum left. It took Coach Boyles two or three years IDR exactly, to build a solid contender and that was after Bobby Hall. I can see the same trajectory with Coach Hankins. While we are are on the subject of Coach Hankins, through the couple of games we dropped the coaching has been steady as a rock. When you have that and good players, soon or later things are going to click
  24. Ok thanks. That makes sense now. I wasn’t even aware of the odd number of teams in 5A. it cut me off on reputations for today or I would have given you a thumbs up
  25. It was either them or West Harrison. Something about that Moss Point score just screamed of not enough defense for 5A. On the other hand that LA school WH let put all them points on this no good either. So I just picked one and after that I couldn’t put them in over anyone below that. Could someone explain to me how Holmes Central is showing they have already played a region game?
