He had an interview now the chances he’s hired is like everyone’s it’s in Bubba’s hands.

No surprise here he may become a great coach one day but not there yet.

He doesn’t have to look for a job remember he is retired and also coaching one of the most storied private schools in the state in Simpson Academy. He’s interested in WC because he wants to be here to right the ship. I also think he wants to coach with his son Will who is currently at Petal just my opinion

He’s a good coach without question but most will be glad he pulled out because of his affiliation with Bubba.

To be honest I would not want to coach my home school. A lot of pressure from family and friends. You got hey my son little Johnny is better than so and so put him on the field this is coming from family and friends and causes bad feelings in family or friendships. You’re always going to have that no matter where but at least it’s not with family also I think with Hall and Boyles WC was starving to win and those coaches reputations as winners proceeded them. With Mangum he had been here and become part of the community before going to Ocean Springs so we knew who we wanted when Marcus left for Petal

Maybe but he’s so outnumbered most of the others will walk in like with Bubba. Coach Chap is a stand up guy and wants what’s best and was part of all the State Title teams except the last one with Coach Mangum

The last outside hire didn’t go over very well. I’m not sure if like myself people felt Kat wasn’t given a fair shake or it was an outsider

It is but he married a Wayne County Girl many years ago they may be wanting to come home and settle down I believe he’s actually from WJ

He’s a very good coach but the community is only going to back one or two candidates. I’m going to post this and it’s probably going to make some people mad but it’s not my intention. On another site someone posted the candidates that they knew of. In the comments underneath there was a comment made are there any black candidates. Unfortunately that’s how a lot are looking at it they’re not worrying about the best coach. To many people White and Black in Wayne County are turning it into a racial thing. I don’t care White,Black, Brown etc…. Give me the best available coach that can bring the team together and win. I’ve known Tracey Lampley pretty much all his life, Kevin Gandy if either get it I would be thrilled and support them on the other hand if Todd Mangum or Chris Boone gets the job I’ll do the same.just hire a good COACH!!!!

I can’t speak about Austin Davis i don’t know much about him as a coach. Great player with NFL experience but great players don’t always make great coaches. Coach Boone on the other hand was at WC years ago before getting into the JUCO ranks and moving on to the D1 ranks. He’s is absolutely a good footballer coach and married to a Wayne County girl. His son was on an all Star baseball team a few years ago with my grandson. I’m going to say his son’s probably 13-14 now very good athlete

if that’s the case he will not work in Wayne County. Coach Hankins actually threw the ball a good bit. I’ll be honest WC scored enough points to win a lot more games than they did under Hankins. The problem was there were to many games where they would score in the 40s and get beat because they couldn’t stop anyone. WC has to get back to being a dominant defensive team like they were. For whatever reason the spread seems to fit WC better than any offense. They are not really a pass heavy team out of the spread but it opens up the running game and give you options. They always have the athletes to play in space not in a phone booth.

Most of the committee are co workers of his the person that will go against him is the one from the community and a former football coach here at WC. Co I don’t think there will be much of an objection to Hathorne on the committee

This is true but is his application one of the ones that made the cut? We may never know because someone wants to leave his mark. If I’m on this school board I’m rejecting every recommendation that he has a part in. He’s only looking to keep his buddies moving up the ladder. He’s not worried about the community getting involved as a matter of fact he doesn’t want that to happen.

You heard absolutely correct. I know this is a football board but if our BOE doesn’t hire this lady as Superintendent they are messing up. I not talking about sports but more importantly to out kids education wise. She is more than qualified, she will not be ran over, she will be fair and she is from Wayne County with two kids in school there and one that graduated from WC. I’ve known her for many years she was sent to turn a middle school in the county around and she did just that making it the highest scoring school in the county before they moved her to the county office. So yes Slick she’s the right person for the job and doesn’t hide things like prior administrations did

Interviews beginning this week already hear some of the names coming in. Good candidates on the table let’s hope they make a quality hire and WC football gets back to where it should be. I know people are tired of me saying this but the talent is here and a lot of young talent coming up. The right coach just has to get them to buy into the championship pedigree.

You are correct and Marcus also added the Junior High coaches. We had one of the best staffs in the state. Another thing is they pretty much stayed together

The first time I met Bubba he was living in what is now his wife’s uncle’s guesthouse which was a carport converted. He was actually our neighbor but the first coaching job I remember him from was Wayne Academy. When Bobby Hall was here Bubba was his DC and Bobby actually liked him. Bobby had him ac DC, Marcus as OC and John Perry as Offensive Line and strength coach.Coach Perry left after One season with Bobby for a JC job. You are right on how things went down with Marcus and Bubba. But Marcus put his staff together if Bubba would not have threw down he may have been DC instead Marcus goes out and gets Mangum brings him in he keeps Marvin Chapman as Defensive lineman coach, gets Milner as offensive line coach, has Todd Breland. Later adds Toby Collums as OC and Ryan Earnest as running back coach and brings in Kelly Murphy. Just posting this to show the kind of coaches Marcus brought in count the state titles five or six. Back to Bobby for a second Marcus and Bobby go way back. Marcus played running back for Bobby at Raleigh later he was an assistant with Bobby at Louisville. When Bubba left he took a head coaching job at Clarksdale or clarksdale whichever is by meridian lol. They were awful at the time Bubba actually won a few games before heading to North East Jones that was not good. Before getting back to WC
