We had a superintendent that cut pay a few years ago and stopped our Junior High coaches from being assistants on the high school level. If you remember back in the Boyles and Mangum years WC had as good of Staffs as anyone in the state. I’m hearing the pays not going to be an issue for the right assistants. They are tired of an empty stadium on Friday Nights. In order to change that they are going to have to spend no matter who the new HC is because he’s only as good as his staff

You also mentioned Kevin Gandy he’s absolutely one of the best young Godly coaches out there. You are right he’s got a little experience now as a head coach he also would do a good job. Picture this the both of them working together I believe that’s a big possibility. They both would love a hand in rebuilding the program and there’s a lot of talent to work with. Personally I wouldn’t won’t to coach my home school lol. You have all your family and friends who think little Johnny is the best player and shouldn’t come off of the field. Lampley and Gandy will block that out and play to win. It doesn’t matter if they are playing marbles they want to be the best

I just got off of the phone with Coach Lampley well he’s Tracy to me always will be. My daughter graduated with him and they were good friends and still are. But you are correct in a few things he was OC at Ocean Springs the Head Coach called the plays but definitely got Tracey’s input on the play calling and definitely had part in the game planning. He’s never been a HC but he’s forgotten more football than most of us know. He knows he will have to put together a good staff and he plans to do so. Look the young man is legendary to a lot of the young kids in WC. I believe they would line up to play for him he has to get a chance somewhere why not to bring his home school back to where it was. When you talk character there’s not a better young man out there. I’m sure he would love to talk to you and I think he would change your mind. Coach Hankins just resigned effective date June 31. Principal Bubba Hathorne just announced retirement effective end of school year. My understanding is they are going ahead with the process to hire new coaches so he can get here

School Board meeting today at Five on the agenda is resignations.

Wayne County School Board meeting the 29th at 5:00. On the agenda is Resignations not sure who all is turning in resignations .

They are a few including the Quarterback. Several people don’t know that a coaching change took place for basketball just a few weeks before school started. WC actually brought in one of their own to coach imagine that lol.

Absolutely and the longer it continues the more harm is done to this once prestigious program

As far as I know Coach Hankins is still the coach. So there’s no hire to be made until he either resigns, fired or contract not renewed.

The youth football programs are being run by former players that won titles at WC. In most cases they have sons playing. But you’re absolutely correct they have done very well since reorganization . I’m sure they are being coached like the guys that played with Coaches Boyles and Mangum coached the ones running the program.

I knew he was a helluva an athlete. He lived in Wayne County in his younger years. Not sure the details on how he ended at NEJ for all I know he moved.

That sounds right as far as championships go. Again I could be wrong but the football championships would have came with Casey Herrington playing I believe Ishee was the coach. South Pike got Carter in South state I believe. Also sounds about right as far as Bubba’s role I witnessed something similar by him when Boyles was named HC at WC.

That’s what I mean he just has more talent all over the field at 2A-3A. That’s usually not the case at the bigger classification. You will have talent but so will the opponent so you and your staff have to do a good job coaching. An example of where that didn’t happen was the East Webster game this season.

No disrespect intended for Daryl Carter but not everyone in WC is ecstatic about him. He’s done a great job with the Oilers but he has a team that has been and will continue to be loaded with talent at their level. Hell to be honest they would have beaten this version of WC. We have had the smaller classification hire before in Baughman from Calhoun City at the time he had won Two or three titles there but couldn’t get it done at WC. I’m not sure Carter leaves anyway because Northeast Jones tried and that’s where he attended high school and won state titles in football and basketball I’m pretty sure. I know he won in football

I hate that someone takes offense to all the Wayne County Threads. So please if you respond to this thread please post where you’re from. I have a lot of friends here and have lost a few from here through the years like OldTiger and Tib just imagine what their Christmas was like this morning.

The interim was the Deputy Superintendent. She’s very good and IMO should be our new Superintendent. But like Merlin I don’t know how much power she would have as interim.

Tell me more about this and why you believe this. I actually believe he could turn the program around and get the players back out and the community back involved. He been under to many great coaches not to have picked up something from each of them. He’s young and energetic and I believe the kids would feed off of that. Tracy and my daughter graduated together great guy I’ve been around him since he was in Jr High.

This comes with a new administration the Superintendent is out as of January 1st. Hearing the principal is also retiring. So coming in with a new slate, good pay great facilities. This is a sleeping giant that needs to be kicked started.
