If Marcus stays at WC he has several more gold balls. The talent that walks the halls at WC and doesn’t play is crazy. Marcus always had a way of getting those kids out to play. I understand why he left and have no hard feelings about it in my book he’s the best coach in the state

I will tell you what I know which is not a lot lol. Coach Hankins is definitely trying to make a difference in these kids not only football but life lessons. If anyone has followed the news about Wayne County lately it hasn’t been very good. We have had more drive by shooting than anywhere I can think of being a town our size. So Coach Hankins is dealing with keeping his kids out of that and teaching football to. Football wise he may have his best team since he’s taken over. He will have a new QB but around him he has talent. Good Running Back and a good line which should be the strength of the team. He has a tight end that’s getting D1 offers he’s a big kid probably 6’4 about 250 with great hands. Defensively they should be solid as well. I’m not predicting they win state but if they stay healthy they definitely make some noise. Their non region schedule is brutal. They play Pascagoula in a jamboree, Williamson (Mobile) , Northwest Rankin, George County and West Jones before even getting to region play.

Channel 7 did a spotlight on Wayne Academy, Coach Breland said 41% of his team is Freshman. They have like 52 kids dressing out. He only has like six Seniors on this team .

I’m not up there very much at all anymore last season was my last season of filming. I stop by occasionally to visit with everyone. I don’t really know the answer as far as kids actually leaving WC I don’t think that number is very high. Now they are getting a few from other schools around the area and some very talented kids that would be moving up to the ninth grade from the county feeder school. But that usually happens

Slick I was in disbelief when you texted and told me about Tib. He was a really good guy I met him once we talked like we had known each other for years. He loved high school football especially his Maroon Tide. He will definitely be missed on this board by those of us who have been here since the beginning.

Natchez use to be like this and I get it there’s a sign about a mile from my house that says Natchez 177 miles. But I was always that parent that when my son is playing I’m going to be there. You never know when injuries are going to happen.

Wayne County was once one of the best atmospheres anywhere in this state or any other. But like everywhere attendance is down.

Good Coach for sure all I really know about his teams is they play hard every snap. He’s typically a wing T guy. Being from WC I can tell you that’s a big sell to a spread team. Coach Hankins is finally getting the kids to buy into it but he’s heading into season number four and he’s not completely wing t and Coach Dolan may not be.

I actually read an article once where he mentioned Picayune. I wish I could remember where i would try to look it up and share. I know everyone remembers him for his time with the Cowboys. I actually remember him more for his time with the Canes lol.

I agree it surprised me being so far away. But I believe he knows something or someone involved with the school or team. I don’t think he made a blind leap.

You’re right they may not. Most new coaches may get to hire new coordinators but not full staffs. He’s coming from Georgia so you have to wonder how many certified teachers/ coaches he knows in Mississippi. Again I absolutely have no problem with the hire and wish him the best. He has talent to work with

He could be coming into a bad situation with his assistant coaches especially his coordinators. I don’t know if they wanted the job but if so to be stepped over for another coordinator with no Head coaching experience probably will not go well. Just my opinion I hope the new coach works out well.

Slick I told you he’s a really good guy who goes above and beyond for his kids. We are all bleacher coaches at times and second guess coaching. The one thing you can’t second guess is what he does for some of the players who have nobody else to do for them. I’ve been there when the coaches would say ok I’m going to take this one home you take that one. We’re talking miles and miles a week because otherwise they would not make it to practice. I showed up at the ER one night because our longtime manager JP who was in bad shape. Who beat me there? Coach Hankins heck I have even been going through some health issues who always texts or calls to check on me it Coach Hankins. I always thank him and he always says you’re War Eagle Family. We at WC have been spoiled through the years by winning. Things got off track before Coach Hankins got here, people just don’t realize how far off track. I do believe he’s righting the ship but my ultimate compliment would be I would definitely won’t my son to play for him.

They made a good hire very good offensive coach. He had some elite athletes this season at GC. I’m not sure what kind of athletes Hancock has but if he gets a good defensive coordinator he could make some noise.
