Between the participation trophies, bad refs, awful challenge/review system, embarrassing fight… this weekend was a black eye for the MAIS.

Money grab for sure.

From Capital Sports: Here is the MAIS Football State Championship schedule. Games will be played at Jackson Academy on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Games on Saturday will be at Mississippi College's Robinson-Hale Stadium in Clinton. MAIS STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS Wednesday At Jackson Academy CLASS 1A DIVISION I 6 p.m. — River Oaks (La.) (10-0) vs. Humphreys Academy (11-1) Thursday At Jackson Academy CLASS 3A DIVISION II 3 p.m. — Adams Christian (10-3) vs. Marshall Academy (10-2) CLASS 3A DIVISION I 7 p.m. — Tri-County Academy (10-1) vs. Leake Academy (9-2) Friday At Jackson Academy CLASS 1A DIVISION II 10:30 a.m. — DeSoto (Ark.) (9-2) vs. Tallulah (La.) (8-5) CLASS 2A DIVISION I 3 p.m. — Centreville Academy (11-1) vs. Lee Academy (8-3) CLASS 4A DIVISION II 7 p.m. — Parklane Academy (10-1) vs. Heritage Academy (10-2) Saturday At Mississippi College, Clinton CLASS 2A DIVISION II 11 a.m. — Winston Academy (4-8) vs. Oak Hill Academy (9-3) CLASS 4A DIVISION III 3 p.m. — Lamar School (8-4) vs. Brookhaven Academy (8-4) CLASS 4A DIVISION I 7 p.m. — Jackson Academy (10-1) at Hartfield Academy (6-5) This may be the dumbest playoff system in the history of mankind. A 4-8 team playing for a 5th place state championship. I hope the MAIS office is embarrassed with all the negative press that they have been getting.

Marshall Academy players got screwed by their own coach. He knew that if they would have beaten Washington that they would have been in the D1 bracket by .2 points over Columbia BUT he lied to his players and said they would be in the D2 bracket win or lose. Marshall more than likely would have beaten Washington. Agreed that the playoff system is a joke. It will get fixed. This is also the same coach that took the Manchester job for like a month then up and resigned. A week later he was announced as Marshall’s head coach.
-
Previous director of the MAIS forced this playoff system. Then he later resigned for being outted for having an affair. New director is trying to fix his predecessor’s mess. Won’t be surprised if there is a new playoff system in place next fall.
-
Same can be said for the MHSAA expanding so much that there are multiple schools in the playoffs with 0 region wins. Hope Marshall enjoys their Loser’s Bracket Championship.
-
MHSAA playoffs are almost as bad as MAIS playoffs. Both associations are all about the $$$$$.
-
PowerPoint system is not set in stone. A lot of coaches/admin pushing for district standings to determine playoff seeding with PowerPoints being used for at large seeds.

So you’re saying there should be only one championship in this classification? Regardless of the fact that most of these schools are 2x to 3x smaller than all of the Jackson schools. Sounds fair and reasonable…. -

They won’t. They make too much money off of hosting MAIS events. -

It’s 9, get it right. Just kidding haha. 7 titles for 11 man football, 2 for 8 man. The only MAIS division that should have 2 championships is the one that includes the Big 4. They need their own because statistically there is such a wide gap in student population between #4 and #5. Big 4 Rest of 4A 3A 2A 8-Man Thats it. -

Not because they are parochial. It’s because they are boy only and girl only. -

Which is another dumb flaw in the PowerPoint crap. However, let’s use East Rankin for example, they received no points for beating MHSAA schools BUT their MAIS opponents reaped the benefits because they received points for those Wins. -

Yep it’s awful. The Director of MAIS Athletics, Chris Chance, needs to go. This is some travel ball BS. -

MAIS PowerPoint system is completely flawed. In the playoffs, district standing meant something and the PPs were secondary seeding. Now it’s PPs only. The previous Head of the MAIS and current Director of Athletics pushed this crap through. There were meetings over the last 2 weeks that has passed a new realignment to reduce the number of state championships. -
Pogue has always been overrated. Like someone else said, any mediocre coach could have won with the talent at South Panola back then.
-
Where did those freshmen get recruited from?
-
The teams they beat couldn’t play dead in a western.

They lost a ton and don’t recruit. Leake is not replacing much. Wayne’s recruiting has replaced what they lost. Marshall has hit recruiting hard and it’s paying off. Columbia was young and has recruited well too. Then you never know what ACCS will bring in.
-
Wayne looked really good. Counted that they had 52 dressed out.
