  1. The guys at Varsity Voices (State Championships Radio Network) dropped their complete 2026 MHSAA football season preview across two episodes. Part 1 (7A, 6A & 5A + All-State/Key Players List): They kick things off with the big schools, breaking down 73 teams across 12 regions. They also reveal their All-State player roster. Part 2 (4A, 3A, 2A & 1A): The second episode wraps up the state covering all 154 small-school programs across 32 regions. Loads of parity here, with three of the four state title games in these classes decided by six points or less last year. Good breakdown if you’re looking to get caught up on every classification before kickoff.
  2. The Varsity Voices Podcast guys are back with a list of the greatest high school football coaches in Mississippi history? This episode ranks an official Top 10 based on overall accomplishments, state championships, program building, player development, and long-term impact on the game in Mississippi.
  3. That tracks because that should have been Holmes County Central. And if Leake is combining, I'd expect them to jump up to 5A and be in that district with Holmes. So Holmes may have had to rearrange its schedule because of it.
  4. Kosciusko Football posted that they are looking for a Week 3 opponent for this fall. The original Week 3 opponent would have been Leake Central. Now this isn't quite the smoking gun, but it's looking like that consolidation could be happening as early as this upcoming year.
  5. The story I was told was that the when consolidation happened, they let the students vote on mascot and colors. And somehow they miraculousy both settled on Gators and orange/black. Not only that, the initials of the school are all the same: LCHS, which made sense for Leake Central, but going from South Leake to Leake County didn't feel like it was needed. But yes, Most folks believe it was done with anticipation that at some point they would combine. And then you wouldn't have to do a complete rebrand. All the uniforms, helmets, logos, etc are all the same.
  6. Rumor floating around that McAdams and Ethel could be consolidated starting for the 2027-2028 school year. But that's something that always goes around when relcassification comes up. Kinda like at some point, Leake County and Leake Central are gonna combine. But just thought I'd mention it.
  7. The guys on the Varsity Voices Podcast broke down some of the 4A and 3A playoff matchups on this week's episode. They also discussed a model that gives the percentage each team has to win the championship. It's a good watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqu9cdfBKd4 Can find it on YouTube HERE.

  9. After a thrilling matchup between #1 Tupelo and #2 West Point, the Green Wave proved they are the top team in Mississippi. But who should be number 2? Tupelo? Ocean Springs? MRA? It’s the halfway point of the regular season, and the Varsity Voices recap a week 5 full of thrilling matchups, discuss the contenders for each classification, and preview the upcoming week’s best games. PLUS, Chris Brooks of MS Gridiron Magazine and Capital Sports MS joins us to discuss the state of high school football in Mississippi. YouTube - https://youtu.be/uZC3AHeDmT4
  10. Greenwood is always talented. Played Cleveland Central relatively close and they took Kosciusko to overtime last year. Yazoo City is 2-2 but no real big wins. Gentry hasn't won a game yet. Would expect the standing to play out like this 1) Kosciusko/Louisville 2) Kosciusko/Louisville 3) Greenwood 4) Yazoo City
  11. This week on the pod, the Varsity Voices debut the RPI rankings of the top MHSAA teams. Also included: a week 4 recap complete with game recaps and player performance highlights. Plus, hear from On3 Sports contributor Brad Logan discuss Tupelo/Oxford from last week and look ahead to Tupelo vs. West Point. YouTube - https://youtu.be/cZyDIAfjn68 See the full list of RPI Rankings HERE.
  12. If any teams in the north can dethrone Louisville, the most likely candidates are Clarksdale and Kosciusko. Maybe Senatobia.
