LSU has lost to #7 and #9 on the road along with #3 at home... THAT gets Kelly fired?? It's a crazy world we're living in.

That 3rd quarter was brutal, Ole Miss stepped up in the 4th to seal the game. USCe gave Bama all they wanted yesterday, Ole Miss best be ready next weekend.

The first 5 you listed are pretty dang tough picks to guess on. The last two look like obvious picks... Bama and Tennessee should win easily. SHOULD. I'm taking the home teams in the other games, whenever I can't really decide I just go with the home team... works out more often than not. The ones I'm most interested in? 1. Obviously OM at Oklahoma. (#1 for me for obvious reasons) A win puts OM squarely in the playoff conversation. A loss leaves OM with zero margin of error. OM needs to finish 10-2 (or better, duh) to get into the playoffs. Ole Miss will likely favored in every game after Oklahoma, so going 10-2 after a loss this Saturday isn't out of the question at all. I've been an Ole Miss fan for over 50 years, I'd feel much better with a win... not losing a game OM shouldn't just rarely happens. 2. A&M at LSU. A&M has a huge opportunity to prove their #3 ranking here. I'm not sold they're that good or not that good. Winning a night game at LSU will certainly help "prove" that ranking. This is a great place to plug I like the new CFP committee waiting until November to release their first rankings... it makes so much more sense. 3. Mizzou at Vandy. The winner will be riding high in the sky, the loser will be facing most saying "same old (insert loser school), I told yall they were overrated." I think both teams are both borderline playoff teams that can give anyone in the country a challenge. I suspect both will just miss out on the playoffs, a lot better than most teams can say. 4. Texas at MSU. MSU is definitely improved, Texas is definitely worse. Other than LSU over A&M, this is my favorite pick of the first five. 5. Auburn at Arkansas. This may well be an entertaining game, but does anyone (outside of Auburn/Arkansas) really care who wins? Does Freeze get a massage at halftime? 6/7. These games could be of interest IF they're competitive, I just doubt they will be. I'm certainly rooting for upsets but no chance I'd bet on it.

Before the season, I thought 8-4 was a fair prediction for Ole Miss... most seemed to think similar. IF Kiffin gets to the playoffs this year, he's more than earned his money. Whether or not Ole Miss makes the playoffs, Kiffin will be making more money next year... either in Oxford or elsewhere. I lean towards Kiffin stays in Oxford unless someone offers him a Jimbo Fisher type guaranteed deal... I can't blame him for leaving if he's offered ~$100 million guaranteed.

We'll see. Nebraska pulled the trigger at a strange time on Frank Solich after what he did I thought... nothing has seemed to work for them since then. On top of that, I think times have changed on coaches just taking a "bigger job" just because it's a "bigger job". I do think they look at job security now more than they did 10-20 years ago. On this weekend of football, Ole Miss "survived", that's all I can say about it. Played like poop but survived... at the end of the day the W is all that really matters. Play like that the next two weeks and it's 6-2. This team is obviously better than what they showed Saturday, but will they show up the next two weeks and beyond?

IF the game was in Starkville, I MAY would pick MSU to win... pretty much a tossup IMO. At A&M, MSU keeps it close but A&M takes over late and wins by 10. Texas/Florida- I wouldn't bet on this game with someone else's money. Which Arch and which DJ shows up? I'm picking Texas but really don't feel good about picking for or against either one. If Bama's version of the FSU game shows up, Vandy. I THINK Bama is figuring things out after that first game- give me Bama. Kentucky isn't good, UGA is. Kentucky may well go 0fer in the SEC this season. This game shouldn't be close. Miami should win easily, this is a good test to see if they may well be a top 4 team when it's said and done. I'm SLOWLY buying in Miami may be a contender, but far from there yet with anyone outside of Ohio State. Bonus NFL pick: Saints pick up their first win of the season over the Giants.

You may be right- I’ll repeat of how silly these early rankings are. We really don’t know. I like how the CFP does the rankings, wait until November. As a total guess from what little we’ve seen, I’ll throw out a few: Texas is currently ranked #7/9… I don’t think they will finish in the top 20. I wouldn’t bet on Ole Miss finishing top 4 at all- I’d love to be wrong on this one. I feel good that Ole Miss will be in the discussion of top 12 playoff teams, and kind of like the chances of being one of the last at large bids. Notre Dame has 2 early losses but runs the table to make the playoffs- I’d love to be wrong here also.

Next 4 weeks for Ole Miss Bye Washington State AT Georgia AT Oklahoma State showed yesterday they can play, the egg bowl could be very interesting.

5-0 (3-0 in SEC play) with a win over currently # 4 LSU. With the number of players Ole Miss lost from last year’s team- I felt repeating 9-3 was the ceiling. This team may well fall short of 9-3, but I like our chances of possibly winning 10. State giving Tennessee fits, MSU has a legit argument for most improved team in the nation this year.

This is a good place to echo what I’ve been saying about rankings before 5 games are played, 7 is better. LSU’s big win was at Clemson, Syracuse just did the same thing. Tennessee took Georgia to OT, how good is Georgia? I certainly wouldn’t bet against Georgia, LSU, and Tennessee all three being playoff teams when it’s all said and done… but it’s certainly not a given.

Ole Miss and State get to find out how good those 4-0 records really are next weekend. State is obviously improved from last year, I'm just not sure by how much. Getting 2 SEC wins to finish 6-6 is more than enough improvement over last year to give real hope for the future. Before the season, I wondered how much of a step back Ole Miss would take with a lot of the talent leaving for the NFL. I felt 10 wins would be the ceiling for this team but 8 was more realistic with 6 as the floor. I really haven't seen enough to change my mind on those numbers other than 7 probably the floor now along with 9 and 8 being equally realistic win totals. Beat LSU and 10 is certainly doable... we will see if that happens first though.

Lol, there were lots of doubts. Ole Miss survived- pretty impressive with the back up QB. I’ll gladly take 3-0, I’m really unsure how the season will go though… we will see.

I stayed on the Ohio State/Texas game but had the MSU/USM game on TV2. MSU and USM both look better than last year, with more work to do. Ohio State and Texas? Both defenses looked very good but both QBs looked fairly average. We'll see how they progress as the season unfolds.

Southern Miss is the 16 seed, opposite of Vandy regional. Bama is in the USM regional, we'll see where State lands.

D1 has Ole Miss projected as a !0 seed, opposite of Auburn regional.

Ole Miss and Southern Miss were projected hosts coming into today, both teams won today. Both teams SHOULD be a lock to host but you never know. Projections are showing 9 SEC teams hosting, the record is 8. With 2 added teams this year along with the strong year by the conference, 9 sounds right.

My money is on Lane Burroughs being the new baseball coach at MSU. The guy already HATES Ole Miss, he's a perfect fit.

I think the SEC and Big 10 are already in discussions to do exactly this.

14 SEC teams in the dance. Ole Miss gets the south region #6 seed. They play the North Carolina/San Diego State winner. MSU gets the 9 seed in the East region vs Baylor. Auburn and Florida are both #1 seeds. Tennessee and Alabama are both #2 seeds. Kentucky is a #3 seed. A TON of respect for the SEC from the committee, we'll see how it plays out.
