I don't know 83, Miami has looked pretty dang good lately... as have all of the final 4 teams. Indiana is the biggest story to me. They had more losses entering the 2025 season than every other FBS program... Northwester has more than Indiana after this season. Between the open transfers and NIL, CFB has drastically changed... for the better IMO. Indiana is the poster child of "why not us?" Ole Miss is a lesser example than Indiana, but still a strong example of "why not us?" This was a "rebuilding year" for Ole Miss... pretty much everyone thought (including me) 8-4 or 9-3... depending on how quickly the team gelled and how quickly Simmons matured into the role. Had you told me Simmons would be hurt early and the backup (I couldn't have named Chambliss before the season) would play the remainder of the season... I would have guessed 6 or 7 wins max. Chambliss has to be the biggest surprise player in CFB this year. On Simmons, he's entered the portal... best of luck to him. Great young man with a huge upside, I'll be rooting for him unless it's a game against Ole Miss.

Not a playoff game, Southern Miss lost their bowl game 27-16. One has to wonder how different it may have been had Huff not left for Memphis? Dan Mullen's UNLV team is tied 0-0 in the second quarter. Back to the playoff games next week: 3 of the higher seeds are favored, no surprise there. #5 Oregon is favored over #4 Texas Tech by 1.5 points. Indiana over Bama by 6.5... same for Georgia over Ole Miss. Ohio State is favored by 9.5 over Miami.

Take the top 12 (or 16 if it's expanded) ranked teams and have the playoff. ZERO autobids for anyone... including the SEC and Big10. This year's first round would have been: Miami at Oregon BYU at Ole Miss Notre Dame at A&M Bama at Oklahoma (unchanged) The Oregon and Ole Miss games would have been much better than what we had. Who wins the next round? Shoot, flip a coin on these games. Hopefully we are in for 4 very great games to watch for New Years Eve/Day.

If nothing had changed from the meeting earlier this season, I'd agree. Tulane's head coach (and I think most of the staff) are gone after the season but staying for the playoffs... how much (if any) bearing will that have on this game? I'm betting not much... but it's worth a question. Ole Miss is without their head coach but most of the coaching staff in place for the playoffs with almost all of the defensive coaches returning including the DC now being the head coach. Ole Miss has the talent (I think???) to just beat Tulane IF they don't give up turnovers and make dumb penalties... but we'll see how they perform with the changes in place.

Yep, Penn State doesn't exactly sell "safe job" very well. I'd love to see Penn State hire Alabama's coach just to watch the chaos unfold, I'm not holding my breath for it to happen. Sark to the NFL is more likely IMO, and I'm not betting on that either... probably about 25% chance that happens this year. IF both happened, we'd have 8 SEC teams with new head coaches.

Very well could happen. Last year's 9-3 finish with THAT roster was labeled by many outside of Oxford as a big failure... he wasn't in any discussions to be fired from Ole Miss. Ole Miss fans were a tad disappointed with 9-3 but I didn't hear a peep about anyone wanting him fired. LSU would have considered firing him had the same exact thing happened there. Dan Mullen (among many others) can give good advice on "taking the bigger job" along with how secure that job probably is.

Supposedly the offensive staff is staying with Golding, I'm not sure if that includes OC Weiss Jr or not? The only names I'm seeing definitely gone are Kiffin and Glasscock (GM). Thomas (GM at LSU) may well return to Oxford for that role.

Hearing the same 83, Pete is HC... no interim tag. The OC hire will be huge for Pete, we'll who he gets.... and needs someone now.

Rumormill has Judge being the only offensive coach staying in Oxford, Pete and most of the defensive staff are staying.

Sumrall held off on any decision until tomorrow and allegedly really wants the Ole Miss job if open... assuming Lane is headed to Baton Rouge, Sumrall is my first guess as the new Ole Miss coach.

Isaac Smith is a helluva player, Ole Miss needs to portal that young man. Taylor has a ton of potential to be a very good player... we'll see how his passing progresses as he ages but not bad at all for a freshman. His running... damn he's elusive.

I said to a friend this morning, I don't think an announcement is coming before the Iron Bowl ends... and MAY not come at all today. We'll see.

Top 4 is pretty predictable IMO 1. Ohio State 2. Indiana 3. Georgia 4. Texas Tech 5. Oregon (assuming they hold on to beat Washington?) 6. Ole Miss 7. Texas A&M A&M wouldn't surprise me at 5, 6, or 7... don't see it being below 7. Oregon stays ahead of Ole Miss if they win.

If A&M loses, it's Bama vs UGA... assuming Bama beats Auburn. If Bama and A&M both lose? I'm not sure who goes between A&M/UGA/Ole Miss (assuming Ole Miss beat State.

The Lane rumors are all over the place. Believe nothing you hear and 1/2 of what you see as the saying goes. I really don't think any decision is made and would wager everyone involved is still negotiating higher offers for Lane/Sexton to review before any decision is made.

Don't forget Southern Miss with a chance to win their Sun Belt division. The "big 3" in Mississippi have all played above expectations this season.

Ole Miss did pretty much what they needed to do yesterday. Won easily and played a ton of backups. I haven't heard anything yet on the Wright injury, hopefully it's not serious... same with Echoles.

It would be something if Durkin/Nix lead Auburn to victories closing out the season.
