College Baseball is oh so close to being here!
rebmus replied to Vott's topic in Mississippi College Sports
Injuries happen to every team, but MSU seemed to be snakebit last year. I lean MSU ends the regular season top 20-25 and is a 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. I really don't know what to expect from OM this year for sure, but would guess they finish top 15-20 as a low 1 seed or high 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. I also think USM finishes somewhere close to OM/MSU. -
I'm definitely "wait and see on Golding" also pancho.

Ole Miss will definitely have a target on their backs this year being the defending NATIONAL CHAMPIONS. -
I won't say I have any "expectations", but hiring Golding sure does help OM's chances. It really depends on who else wants those portal players... such as A&M for example. A&M will outbid OM by too much for the Golding tie to matter.

A couple of thoughts: 1. I think chances are VERY SLIM, but if the Jags and Giants meet in the Super Bowl... some folks betting on the darkhorses will make a lot of money. 2. Not long ago, the NFC East had a division winner with a losing record. Now the NFC East has 3 of the 4 remaining NFC teams left in the playoffs.

I wasn't sure if OM would pick up an SEC win period this year. I figured 3 wins somewhere, but a road win gives some hope it won't be THAT bad of a year. Right now, I'd put the over/under of SEC wins for OM at 3 maybe 4 wins. There's still plenty of the season left, but I do lean towards OM/USC/MSU will finish bottom 3 in the SEC.

OM picked up a win at South Carolina. It's hard to call that a "big win", but considering how hot KD's seat is... that was a big win if he wants any chance to keep his job.

The SECT in Hoover is a great event and well put together. With that said, unless a team NEEDS some wins in Hoover to get a NCAA Tournament bid... it's really better to lose early and rest arms. -
Bucs look like poop tonight. Cowboys look pretty good other than the FG kicker, 4 XPs in a row missed? That has to be an NFL record, probably a college record for XP misses in a row?

Good calls on the first two games 83. 49ers/Seahawks was a good first half then the Niners won comfortably. Purdy going from the last draft pick to taking over the 49ers late in the season to keep winning towards and the playoffs along with getting a playoff win is something else. Jags/Chargers was something else. 5 turnovers by the Jags in the first half and it looked like a blowout was in hand. Lawrence and the Jags came out in the second half and picked up the win.

I really hope KD turns around OM enough to keep his job this year. It would take a pretty major finish from here out to keep him in Oxford... an 8-4 OOC start backed up with an 0-5 conference start rarely keeps a basketball coach employed.
-
Since NIL deals can't be made for recruiting purposes (wink wink), can that really be a lawsuit for backing out? I have no idea, but it sure is complicated. I'm with you, I'm all for the players getting paid. The NFL model has salary caps and a players' union, with huge fines for anyone not following specific rules that are enforced equally with all teams/players. I'm leaning we're getting close to 2 (maybe 4??) "super conferences" breaking away from the NCAA for football and doing their own thing similar to the NFL model.

With all due respect to Chris Partridge, I don't see how anyone can't view this as an upgrade at DC right now.

Baseball is probably the most unpredictable sport of the "big 3". How crazy would it be if USM took home the NC this year to keep the trophy in state for 3 years in a row with 3 different teams? I suspect the odds are low USM wins the NC this season, but how low were the odds of OM winning it last year even after being selected (last one in) to the NCAAT? Baseball is about getting hot at the right time. -
This reminds me of the Andy Kennedy era at Ole Miss... I called "Free throws" "Cost throws" during that time. There are many positive things I can say about AK, but the cost throws seemed to never end during his time in Oxford.
-
I agree. It's Jans' first year... get an NIT invite and it's a good start. Kermit is in year 5 and I don't see him surviving unless he makes the NIT... and likely may not survive unless he makes the NCAAT, and right now it's doubtful OM makes the NIT this year. I hope I'm wrong, I'm a big fan of KD and hope he's the coach at Ole Miss until he retires. Wins/losses are what keeps a coach employed or fired, it doesn't look good for KD last year and worse this year.

MSU lost to UGA tonight, they really need to beat Florida in two weeks and pick up 2 of 3 between UT/Bama/Auburn. But hey, it could be worse... look at Ole Miss. Haha MSU had a nice OOC start which will definitely help NCAA tournament bids IF they finish decently in conference play. Ole Miss had a bad OOC start along with an 0-4 SEC start.
-
I didn't think TCU could beat UGA, but I expected a better game than 65-7.

NFL playoffs are set. Dallas was a game away from being the #1 seed but is the #5 seed. The Cowboy's record gives hope to Cowboy's fans that this is the year for a deep run. At the same time, I'm not overly impressed with how Dak and Zeke finished this season. I'd wager Dallas makes another early exit from the playoffs and would be quite fine with being wrong.
-
Same here, I'm pulling for TCU but picking UGA. No idea on the score.
-
Anyone make these two bets? I should have, seemed like a lock and ended up happening.
-
Arkansas fans seem to be ready to move on from Briles like Bama fans seem to be ready to move on from Golding. It's definitely a potential red flag for either, but I slightly lean towards Briles would be a good hire as OC for almost any team along with Golding would be a good hire for almost any team.
-
I don't bet on sports but this game tempts me. 1. Bet the under. 2. Bet on MSU to win.
-
A&M hired Petrino as OC. Interesting... does the deal come with a motorcycle and a cheerleader?

Ole Miss travels to Starkville this weekend and the loser of the game starts SEC play 0-3.
