OM beats Purdue 15-7 to win game 1.
-
You could be correct, I wouldn't wager that either way. IF I were Carolina, I think it's a much better gamble to roll the dice with Corral vs giving up so much to get the #1 pick for any of these QBs in the draft this year. For all we know, Levits/AR/etc. MAY end up a HOF NFL QB... but odds are none in this round will be starting QBs in the NFL very long.

Arkansas and Auburn were both projected 9 seeds heading into today. Arkansas beat Auburn in the SECT which likely makes Arkansas pretty safely "IN". Then again, Auburn/Arkansas/MSU have basically the same overall record with Auburn having the nod with the best conference record. I think all 3 get a bid BUT IF stolen bids happen... one of these three may get left out and that's a tough call for the selection committee.

Ole Miss's season came to an end today, no surprise. Nothing else to watch for OM men's hoops other than waiting on the announcement of the new head coach. Ole Miss is a baseball school anyway! **
-
I'd be fairly surprised if MSU doesn't get a bid with a loss tomorrow. It's possible depending on what else happens, but not very probable. Winning tomorrow removes any doubt MSU gets a dance bid. I figure MSU gets in at a 10 seed with a loss tomorrow and could well move into a 8 or 9 seed with a win tomorrow.

That would be certainly interesting and would go back to my point on this. Almost every MSU fan on a moral high horse about Beard would suddenly support him IF MSU was trying to hire him while OM fans would suddenly get on the moral high horse if MSU hired him.
-
I agree it's a stretch IF we know for sure Beard hit or choked her... is there a video? There's no debating what Simmons did, only (and I agree, the age difference). There's a debate of what really happened in Beard's accusations.

Ole Miss beat South Carolina in the SECT to advance from day 1. SC is a really bad team, but still happy for these young men to pick up an SECT win. It's very likely a short lived good feeling with Tennessee up next, it's definitely better than going home after 1 game. On Beard, IF he's the next coach at Ole Miss: As 83 mentioned.... charges were filed and charges were dropped on Beard allegedly hitting/choking a woman. I have no idea if he actually did it or didn't. It's certainly possible he didn't and it's certainly possible he did and paid her "hush money". As Satch mentioned... Second chances are easier to get if you've got something to offer. I could not agree more. Even if there was a video of Beard beating or choking a woman (let's say she's on the ground while he did it and was not attacking him at all), someone would give him a second chance and the fans of that team giving him a second chance would line up to accept it. IF Beard choked her, the judgement between OM and MSU fans will be funny IF Beard is hired. MSU fans will be on a moral high horse after defending Jeffrey Simmons and OM fans will be defending Beard after riding a moral high horse on MSU signing/playing Jeffrey Simmons with basically no penalty. (Yes, I realize Simmons was 17 or 18 years old at the time- but still). All that to say, IF I was KC... I wouldn't hire Beard with what little I know. Maybe KC has better information on what really happened that day? Back to Simmons, I honestly think he regrets that day and has learned from it. He's a helluva player and I haven't seen a negative article about him since then, I'm happy for him.

Ole Miss beats Southern Miss 11-5. The bats showed up, the pitching was MEH and 2 errors on the day (I jinxed the errors). Still, a solid win over #22 USM.

Women's bracketology has MSU as a 10 seed (next 4 in) in the Stanford regional while Ole Miss is an 8 seed in the Virginia Tech regional. Men's bracketology has MSU last 4 in. Beating Florida in the SECT is probably a must or hope a lot of other bubble teams lose. Win that game, MSU is fairly safe to get a bid. I don't see Ole Miss listed in the men's bracketology, shocking.**
-
I don't recall many changes in position players, but Ole Miss tweaked the lineup along with pitching rotations a LOT last year before things clicked at the right time.

I heard on the way home that OM has only committed 3 errors this season. It's early, but that's pretty impressive though 12 games.

No doubt if Bianco starts losing games there will be a segment of the fanbase wanting him gone. I'll add, MSU fans would be no different with Bianco than OM fans have been. Had Bianco taken the MSU job, would MSU stick with him for 14 years before he finally made it to Omaha? If anything, the OM administration has been more patient with Bianco than most schools would have been... obviously it paid off last year. I've always thought it was a bad idea to fire Bianco, he's missed the postseason 3 times in 21 years (I'm not counting the Covid cancelled season).

Ole Miss beat Nebraska 14-5 today to go 3-0 for the weekend. I'm not sold on OM being ranked #4, but I see potential.
-
Ole Miss picked up the win over Minnesota today 9-7.
-
MSU better win 1, if not 2, in the SECT if they want a bid. 2 SECT wins and it's a lock. 1 SECT win, it's probably an NCAAT bid depending on what happens elsewhere. Lose out in the SECT and it will take a lot of help to get an NCAAT bid. At worst, MSU is an NIT team in Jans' first year... good start for his career at MSU.
-
Ole Miss women got drilled by South Carolina as expected today. Latest projection has OM as a 7 seed in Indiana's regional and MSU a 10 seed in South Carolina's regional.
-
That's my understanding of what happened. It certainly is odd to replay the team you just hosted the following Friday night in the regular season.
-
Ole Miss won tonight, 3-1 vs Maryland which is certainly a positive early on.
-
Lady Rebs beat A&M 77-60 to advance to the semifinals. Undefeated South Carolina tomorrow, at least that loss won't hurt the potential seeding any.
-
Alabama women came in today as a projected 8 seed and lost to a bad Kentucky team. Bama and MSU are in the same boat now. I think they'll both get in, but it depends on what other teams do.
-
My thoughts also, I'd wager that's playing a part in his comments. I suspect Lane is hoping MSU has an opening soon and his comments help him land the HC job in Starkville. Either way, La Tech's AD sure can get pissed at Lane quick IF KC decides to not schedule La Tech in any sport.
-
Article today said Elliot will be back by SEC play. Another article said mid April. Who knows? Seems it's consistent news that it's just a sprain and he'll play most of this season. Back to the La Tech game last night, they're pretty mad. La Tech's coach stated today he hopes La Tech never schedules Ole Miss to play again. Ell Oh Ell. IF La Tech wants to play that card, I'm fine with it. There are PLENTY of baseball programs to schedule... and definitely plenty of football programs to schedule. I stand by what I said last night, it sucked how it ended. Still, Ole Miss doesn't own a magic lightening machine to cause the delay/cancel and the rules were followed to decide the "winner."
-
Projection for MSU's women before that game was a 9 seed. I suspect they'll get an NCAAT bid UNLESS there are too many "stolen bids" from surprise conference tourney winners. I figure they were a lock with a win over A&M today, now they have to hope not too many upsets happen. OM women are projected as a 7 seed in the South Carolina regional, I'd rather they get sent anywhere else... ha.

Rumors are Elliot needs 3 weeks off for a sprained UCL, already has 2 weeks off. IF true, Elliot is back next weekend, that's HUGE for Ole Miss.
