I think so. I don't think they are as good as Catholic and this is basing everything on results from last year (so that doesn't really mean anything). Ocean Springs may have a little bit more of a reprieve, but they are still going to have to bring their A game. Both Catholic and Scotlandville are in the same district with Zachary.

Just rename it Top "Big Boy Football" Games of the Week Sponsored by "Eat your Wheaties" LOL! There's a lot of big matchups like that this week. I think Picayune, Oak Grove, and Ocean Springs are all in similar boats this week. All of our Mississippi Teams need to have the mindset as tough as last week was (with the exception of Oak Grove), it's only going to get tougher this week.

Not trying to derail the thread here, but Picayune is going to be in for a war against Catholic. Picayune is going to need all hands on deck so to speak.

We'll all be dried up skeletons waiting for a response there. If his fetish is a Picayune vs. Lamar matchup, it would be 6A vs. 2A in MHSAA standards. Picayune would never schedule a 2A opponent for that reason alone. It would not be fair to the smaller school and it certainly wouldn't be fair to Lamar even though they are MAIS. It would certainly be an unneeded massacre.

North Pike’s coach could very well be a prime candidate when the coaching carousel cranks back up. This is only the start of his 4th year and he’s already 26-8 with the three consecutive 4A district championships. It’ll definitely be something to keep an eye out for down the road.

And they did it in 4A which makes it even more impressive. I remember when Picayune was in 4A and it was tough football every single Friday night. You never had a cupcake and you had to bring it.

Dang, I just looked up North Pike and they are a 3 time defending district champ. They might be a tough piece of jerky to digest.

Another one you could bring up is North Pike. I don’t really know anything about the Pike County schools, but they must be a little more than halfway decent. If the beating that South Pike put on PRC Friday night is any indication of the type of team you’ll get from Pike County, then look out. They may be 1 and done in the playoffs, but if they get in they’ll have to win some games to do so. This region is definitely the smokescreen of 5A South.

What are your thoughts on the Brandon/MC matchup? If it were called a toss up, I certainly wouldn't disagree there. I think there may be arguments to be made both ways there.

I tend to agree there, but will West Point show improvement or will Starkville keep that improvement buried?

My gut is also telling me that South Panola finds a way and beats Oxford, but that game won't be a slouch either. South Panola is going to have to play a great game.
