Man Petal has made a living of off getting athletes from other schools more than anyone the last few years. There is little homegrown talent that comes out of there. This year as in other years they have gotten players from surrounding schools. Now I know kids move and people transfer because they believe it is better opportunities but they do not have the base talent to inject those kids and put them over the top. Heck I remember years ago when that stadium was built you couldn't get a seat in it on Friday or Saturday Nights. Went to a game this year and it was not nearly that away. Petal has a name but they are not a powerhouse. Good school, great academics, exciting band and very competitive in some of their other sports.

Last night they lost one of their players! It seems like this has been a tough year for that, as a few communities have lost players this year! Always tough to see a young life taken so early! Prayers for that community!

Yeah I'm like some of you guys I know they have at least one almost sign D-1 every year and a couple Juco guys! I'm not saying that is enough talent to win a state championship but should be enough to win a game!

It is so funny to read these post. At the beginning of the season you had the State championship coming to Enterprise. Now you explaining how you going to win the district championship if this and this and this and this happens! Enterprise is a good team but the are probably not even in the top 5 in 3A

Yeah! Especially for a Freshman!

Man I watched Wesson the other night and they got a Wr. #4 who is a freshman. He is pretty darn good!

I heard they have a few kids banged up as well so I am sure that has not helped. Feel bad for some of those 1A teams. Almost all of their non District games are against bigger schools and makes it hard to win early!

I got Quitman! Coach Gandy has done a great job over there and they are getting better every year!

Heard there coach resigned this week. Anyone else heard this?

What happened to the days of playing football in the weather? All these people are moving games to different times and to stadiums with turf. I remember when I played we had a game that was supposed to be in the rain and the coach had a trash can full of water soaking balls so we could practice with them for when it rained that Friday night. Yes, it is uncomfortable for fans, Yes there maybe less fans there than a normal game, Yes, there are all the reasons in the world to justify moving a game. Guess I just remember the days of playing football on Friday nights no matter what the weather threw at you! Guess I am just getting old and a little bit of a Purest!

They tried this a few years ago and come to find out it made no difference in the outcome. Like someone else said they practice mid afternoon. Jr. High and Jv can play before that and not suffer any effects I guess the MHSAA feels. This really made no since to me when I seen it on the news the other night, but typical of the MHSAA!

That didn't take long! Sounds like a big hire for them, but has will they be ready for the Preps and other schools in their division?

I seen in the Taylorsville post I made that Jay Blackledge left the coaching profession to sell insurance. one of the other posters mentioned that they had seen others do the same. Started thinking now that I thought about it there have been a few leave this year? Was wondering why.

How come Jackson Prep is not called Flowood Prep or Rankin Flowood Prep also known as RFP? Aren't they actually in Flowood and Rankin County? Just Curious!

That is a crazy amount of money for high school. That more than most colleges cost!

I'm not a South Panola fan. That Goula teams sounds tough! 6 shutouts is impressive for sure!

South Panola steamrolled its way to the Class 6A state title in 2010 and became the first and only national champion from Mississippi. How South Panola did it was pretty remarkable. They trounced Meridian in the state championship game and were at No. 2 in the national rankings for one week before No. 1 team Euless (Texas) Trinity High lost in the state championship game, and South Panola moved up. South Panola only gave up more than 13 points in a game once in 2010, in a 65-35 win over Georgia powerhouse Colquitt County in the second game of the season, and averaged 48.5 points per game. Running back Qyen Griffin had one of the all-time great seasons in Mississippi history, rushing for 2,670 yards and 37 touchdowns, but remarkably, no player from South Panola's national title team made it to the NFL. I stole this from somewhere!

I am bored this morning! What was the greatest single season football team in State history in Mississippi and Why. Go!

This will be the downfall of college football!

Let's be honest. This is not the JA of 20 years ago much less the one of 10 years ago. Prep is in the same situation. Yes, it is the Name of these 2 schools that keep them open and going. they are the Old Money people. For a long time JA was the main private school which opened in Jackson 1959 and they kind of looked down on Prep when it opened about 10 years later. Prep was one of the Newer schools that opened after Brown Vs. Board of Education. Both of these school where neck and neck for years and had great games on the field. MRA was the step child for many of those years. Than people started moving. Areas North of Jackson started growing and you saw a growth in MRA where now they have taken over. You also saw the purchase of University Christian by Pinelake and that became the New Kid on the Block! Many of the kids that 10 years ago would have gone to Prep are now going there. JA and Prep will continue to struggle as their are now more options that provide the current education opportunity that is a stark contrast to why they originally opened. For years those where the premier Private schools in the Jackson area, now they are not the only ones!
