The State Women are a total mystery. Team should have been in the NCAAT. But lose home games to FL/KY to play ourselves out of the Tournament. Now playing just average teams, we have won two in a row and now play @ Penn State Thursday. Win that and we are in whatever the Final Four is for whatever Tournament we are playing in.
Color me confused.

Congrats to Ole Miss on a good season for the Ladies even if ended on a disappointing note.

It is possible for Ole Miss or State to move up to the elite level of women’s basketball since we know has happened in the past. Whether that will happen with the current HC’s remains to be seen.

Yo has done a great job the last few years for OM. Can’t overstate how bad the program she inherited was. Night and day difference now.

Don’t have a great read on Purcell. Personally, his personality is not my cup of tea. It’s been a mixed bag in many ways through two years. Some good, some bad. He also suffers a little from being at State just a handful of years after Schaefer left so that comparison, fairly or not, will be there for him until/unless he finally has a great team.

State has the fan support for the women as it has carried over from the Schaefer days. I agree that Purcell will still be compared to Schaefer.
Though this year he was seemingly on his way to a tremendous year before the wheels fell off. Now I know winning this minor Tournament will not erase that but it could help propel the team into next year in a better position. We will see.

Ole Miss has not developed that fan support yet for the women. If they keep winning, it will continue to grow. I see a couple of you OM guys have questioned whether Coach Yo has plateaued yet. I think she may be at a crossroads to see if she can take the team to the level of SC or at least close it. It will certainly be difficult but it is attainable.

Unless she gets more buy in from her administration and fan base then yeah it’s gonna hard to do much more than she’s doing now.

Not surprised. I am not sure he played any during the season. Well I guess once in the first game of the year.

Got hurt in the first Auburn game in January and basically never heard from him again, other than garbage time against Mizzou and LSU.

Bama has seemingly quietly made their way to the EE. I think they will beat Clemson to go to the FF. I just don’t know about Tennessee. We know they are very good but we did have their number this year.

Doubt it happens but we could see a Bama-Tennessee finale. The meltdown by the basketball experts would be funnier than h**l if that were to come to pass.

Tennessee-Creighton tonight should be an excellent game. Several others have that potential too.

I think this is still UConn’s tourney to lose. They have just steamrolled everybody two tourneys in a row. Until someone proves they can hang with them I have the Huskies pulling a 2006-2007 Florida and going back to back.

The thing with Connecticut is they have had an easy time so far. If they get into a close game I can see them missing some FT’s late and ending up losing a game. The Tournament is notorious for humbling teams that seem to be the clear favorite.

I do think Illinois is an interesting matchup for them in the Elite 8, by far the best team they will have seen so far in the tourney.

Amazingly UConn has made this run the last two years without playing a single one or two seed in the NCAAT. Played one 3 seed last year, everyone else was seeded lower than that. Now this year they can get to the championship game without facing a 1 or 2.

State just got a commit from a Penn State transfer who averaged 17 points a game this year. Small guard similar to Hubbard but can absolutely score. Seems to be a good addition.

Still need a three and D guy to replace Jeffries and a center or two, among others.

Still possible as I think Tennessee can beat Purdue.
Connecticut is still the favorite but in the FF they could possibly be vulnerable as all the pressure will be on them.

I just can’t in good faith predict anyone other than UConn to win it all. I mean what they’re doing right now is nuts. They’re not just the favorite, they’re the biggest favorite I can recall in men’s basketball in a long time. They’re doing to teams what the UConn women used to do to teams in the tourney.

I gotta say I was wrong on Bama, didn’t think they played enough defense for a run like this. But they’ve improved marginally down the stretch in that area, and then are just taking a bunch of threes and making them. If there’s a path to them beating UConn, it involves them being red hot from three.

Purdue and NC State (wow) complete the Final Four field.

This NC State run is up there with the George Mason and VCU runs of prior years. They might not have even made the NIT based on the regular season. Had to win the ACC tourney to make the NCAAT. And have won 9 straight elimination games in the last three weeks. And that includes an absolute miracle against Virginia in the ACC semis. Incredible.

Hard to see Beard leaving after only one season. But with players being disposable after each year, I guess Coaches can be as well.
Jans really put it succinctly that no college basketball team is a program any more. It is a one season deal. Period.

And football/baseball programs are about the same as well. Win for this year like it is your last year because it is.
The future is this game today.
Getting experience for the future is a misnomer in the present day.
