Coaching Kudos

Bearing in mind that you're supposed to win with superior talent, these guys have done some fine coaching:

1. Wade Tackett - has rebuilt the Hamilton squad and led the team to achieve their first undefeated regular season since 1982

2. Adam Smith - in three years has led Ethel to three winning seasons. Doesn't sound like much but Ethel has accomplished three winning seasons in a row only once before since they started playing football in 1937.

3. Eddie Stevenson at Southaven - first undefeated season in the Chargers history.

4. Ty Hardin - superior talent is supposed to win, but the way they've been doing it at Tupelo has been devastating.

5. Rod Holmes at Jefferson County has made Fayette a power in his first season. If there's a sneaky sleeper in 3A this is it.

I’d have to mention the job that Blake Pennock has done in his three years in Ocean Springs. Twenty straight regular season wins, with a playoff win and another top seed heading into the playoffs this year. He’s built the program to be set up for long term success. Doesn’t hurt that he has weapons like Mr. Football, Bray Hubbard, but he’s got an offense that is chugging along, scoring at a 40+ average over the last two years. Hoping that he wants to stick around.

Not all kudos go to coaches who bring winning seasons.  Sometimes kudos need to go to a coach who willingly goes to a school who hasn't won in years and is slowly turning the program around.  1st year Head Coach at Northeast Lauderdale, Dillon Mitchell, took his team from winning 1 game last year to 4 wins this year.  It is, by far, not where it needs to be but its on a promising path.  I expect he has a great future ahead of him!

It's also very tough to be the fifth coach in six years and have any kind of success

Along this line, go ahead and throw Russell Mitchell at Germantown into the mix here.  He's turning the program around there.  He finished the season at 5-6 and finished 5th in region 2-6A standings.  Things are getting better there for sure.

They scored less and allowed more this year than since 2018.  Maybe the culture is changing, but the results haven't shown it yet.

Just give it some time.  That's big boy football in a big boy football region.  No one ever said it would be easy there, but he has all the resources at his fingertips to be successful there.  They've got plenty to work on and improve upon and I think they will.

Olive Branch 5-6, lost last 4 games of the season

1st time to ever lose to Center Hill

1st time to ever lose to Lewisburg

Did it ever occur to some that those two schools might have been much better than they traditionally are this year, and Olive Branch doesn’t have the Memphis recruits there anymore?
