HA is the MAIS 5A favorite without him starting the playoffs. He did get a taste of competition against better talent. His numbers aren't great, but they aren’t bad either. Looks like tonight the defense let them down.

Both coaches are on the clock to adjust how they change their game plan to gain some advantage. Having the game in Picayune is no longer the huge edge now that Gautier knows they can play well there. Any injuries that happen in the early playoffs will be important, but I cannot see any of the other south teams being a threat at this point. Awaiting the outcome of Hattiesburg/Laurel for final 5A bracket, but these teams should meet again at Picayune in south state finals. I’ve got to figure out a way to watch that game! If they bring their officials with them, then yes they can have another good ballgame against us. I think Picayune will learn from this game and make the necessary adjustments to win a little bit more comfortably if they were to meet again.

I agree that the coaching advantage goes to Picayunes staff, as well as the experience in big games. But, now Gautier has played in a huge game, done well, and maybe have the payback chip on their shoulders. Looking forward to another great game if neither team gets complacent. If they should play again, I would think that the state would assign one of their best referee crews to a south state game. If they do that, they will make history as the first Gautier football team to get to the 3rd round. That would be a huge monkey off of Gautier's back right there. Let's hope and pray they'll have a better officiating crew if things get that far with both teams.
