Dawg83
I’ve made my opinions known about Cohen the AD and they are not super positive. I will say that Cohen the baseball coach saved State’s program from the abyss and had a huge role in the run of massive baseball success from 2016-2021 (and obviously the 2013 run). I think things as a whole have gotten stale for MSU while other SEC West programs have been reinvigorated with a ton of energy in recent years. In this league if you’re staying put then you are getting left behind. Hopefully State’s next AD will bring a fresh perspective and can regenerate much of the buzz that has been lost for State in recent years. And dear gosh, maybe let’s hire somebody with actual athletic admin experience this time instead of just pulling the baseball couch out of the dugout because he’s an MSU grad that “sat in on some interviews”. MSTSatchmo
Have y’all seen some of the names being thrown around by Auburn fans? Anywhere from Urban Meyer to Ron Zook. Mullen seems to be a popular name, as well as Freeze.
Bulldogs4
I wonder if this is like when you leave your job at a bank. They lock your office up, disable your computer and you are gone from the premises as soon as you give the hierarchy the word you are leaving. Understandably since there is money involved at a bank, that is the case. But is Cohen already on the job in Auburn? Just a really odd set of circumstances around this whole charade. Hard to feel sorry for Harsin since he is about pocket $15 million. Auburn is beyond stupid.
MSTSatchmo
They paid Malzhan 21.7m less than two years ago to leave. Lol. I saw a tweet that said State had already informed Cohen they were moving on from him this year. I don’t know if that’s legit or not. Dawg83
As of 5:30 pm, State has announced that Cohen is gone but Auburn has not announced that they are hiring Cohen. You do not see it happen in that order very often.

Dawg83
I don’t think it will happen but there’s a greater than zero chance that Cohen could miss on his first choices and end up pursuing Leach. Stranger things have happened. Cohen has a major case of “outsmart the room” syndrome so I don’t feel like the obvious candidates (Freeze, Kiffin, etc) will be it. Dawg83
Also, Cohen blaming State’s NIL situation for him leaving should probably make State fans pretty mad considering how little he did to actually promote and emphasize NIL. That Ross Dellenger article really portrays State in a negative light and it’s pretty obvious his info is coming straight from Cohen. That’s a pretty dastardly thing to do to your alma mater on the way out the door, especially when your alma mater is the only reason you are an athletic director. If not for Keenum, Cohen would still be coaching baseball.
MSTSatchmo
And that is what will eventually separate the big market and big endowment schools from the others. The NIL is still new, so smaller markets can beg and plead and promise that the money is coming, but it just isn’t at the rate of other schools. You’ll have to hope you can buy a couple big time players and the rest are good with crumbs.
Dawg83
State’s first attempt at organized NIL was targeted toward……. baseball. Very little in place for football or basketball until Charlie Winfield started the Bulldog Initiative. Charlie is doing an awesome job with that but other schools had a year’s head start because Cohen and State’s boosters sat on their hands for so long. I love college baseball but prioritizing it over football or even basketball is a recipe for disaster. Dawg83
The other thing I’ll say, and this can be a complaint directed toward Leach too…. It does not matter if you do not personally care for NIL. It is here and it’s not going anywhere. Either you embrace it in your program or you won’t be around long because your peers will be running circles around you.
Dawg83
Per Ross Dellenger, since Monday, State has raised over $500,000 in NIL funds and tripled the membership size of the Bulldog Initiative. Cohen pissed enough people off that State fans are finally starting to put their money where their mouth is.

I heard OM has had a significant increase as well since Harsin was fired and Kiffin’s name keeps getting mentioned along with Auburn having more NIL money. Bulldogs4
Just kind of curious where Cohen watched the game from last night? And if he traveled back to Auburn with the team or if he stayed in Starkvegas to continue moving his personal effects? Still seems a bit surreal how all that unfolded. Regardless, no hard feelings toward him. I appreciate the job he did at State which I think for the most was good. In general, may be this week everyone can get back to talking football. pancho
Keenum can make a huge improvement in the AD seat. The question is whether he'll actually hire a micro guy or gal who will expect certain things from each program or not.

I read that he would not be at the game, but he would be at his home in Starkville.
