slicklizard
Okay you are right Merlin. Unless Hattiesburg beats Picayune which would put West going back to Hattiesburg again.

Merlin
2nd round: West Jones/ Gautier winner would play George County/Laurel winner. Picayune/Hattiesburg winner would would play Brookhaven/East Central winner.
Merlin
Is Laurel trying to send a message by running the score up like this?

They put in their reserves. When you turn it over and they start in your own territory they can't help but score

No it’s not, west Jones didn’t have in reserves, Hattiesburg defense beat a good west Jones team by “forcing” turnovers. This is not the same. Thats what happened in the WJ/Hattiesburg game. 14 Hattiesburg points came after WJ turnovers inside the WJ 30 yard line. Hattiesburg scored its other points also after a WJ turnover on their side of the 50. So whats the difference? I am sure neither Hattiesburg nor Laurel had reserves in in the first half (well maybe Laurel did half-way into the 2nd Q) when the turnovers were ongoing then. Look all I’m getting at is don’t try to discredit Hattiesburg from the victory. As for reality……. The Tigers are in jeopardy plain and simple. The season is likely over with no one to pull the trigger. All of my smack talk that I had saved for the end is gone.

Don’t sleep on Hattiesburg against Picayune, even running wildcat. They can still play good defense Laurel-GC is matched with WJ Gautier. Hattiesburg-picayune with Brookhaven-east central. Higher seed will host every game. HHS can't host unless they play Gautier for South state. WJ will not travel at all. The change giving lower seeded teams a playoff game at home came in 2018. Fyi. This change is in 5a and 6a only. 1-4a still play it the way it used to be.
Deonte3455
I think it’s amazing how ruthless some fans can be about high school football, specifically most Hattiesburg fans. We have some of the most ruthless fans out there bar none and it’s not even funny. They don’t care about injuries, processes, youth, the kids, nothing all they care about is W and don’t care how it happens. This is not the NFL. I think you are spot on with your overall analysis of some high school football fans. This is in general, not just Hattiesburg fans.

After HHS beat WC and WJ this one fan we have was singing loud and proud about how we had turned it around in region play and we were bout to make a playoff run, only to hear him last night from the stands about how bad we are. I seen where some are calling for the coach job and the disrespect he has received the last few years, I’m surprised he’s still there putting up with it. Despite all he’s done for that program and I’ve seen how it was before he arrived. Before I 2013 I would never attend a Hattiesburg game. David44
Some of these fans don’t follow the team close enough or pay attention enough to understand that a 3rd team starter at a key position makes a huge difference. Yet they are the loudest critic when things go wrong. It’s sad because the kids on the field are playing as hard as they can.
