Unless they lose South Jones they are in a great spot. They can get the no.2 spot with a win and a HHS loss. HHS will either be no.1 or no.4. I know yall watch those teams every week any predictions out there? The only sure thing is Brookhaven over South Jones. The other two are rivalries you never know about Hattiesburg/Laurel. With WJ @ WC both teams have key injuries so it hard to pick that one too. WC will be honoring Marcus Boyles before the game so should be a good atmosphere. Its the 100th game between the two schools and this decision was made last year to play it on a saturday night. If Picayune wins and Vancleave wins there's a three way tie between Gautier, EC, and Vancleave. Gautier beat Vancleave. EC beat Gautier. Vancleave beat EC (in this scenario). If Picayune beats Gautier and EC beats Vancleave then EC is the 3 seed and Gautier is the 4 seed (i'm fairly certain). I also think that if Gautier WINS and EC wins that it's still EC 3 and Gautier 4. No matter the outcomes though Picayune and GC are locked in their spots. Yep. East Central has this weird obsession with making things difficult on themselves lol. Last year district was giftwrapped for them only to lose and end up 4. Despite our extreme youth we were within a score in every game we lost against some real heavyweights. Coach Hankins did a fantastic job and got everything he could have out of this team. . We have everyone coming back plus some promising skill players moving up. This year reminds me of Marcus Boyles first year, Next season we are going to make some noise. Merlin Posted November 5, 2021 Share Posted November 5, 2021 (edited) I did not go to the WJ/WC game but ended up watching a stream about mid 2nd Q. From what I saw for the 3rd straight game WJ was completely FLAT the 2nd half. Its like they get a 2 score lead and just decide to hold it right there. WJ play calling and clock management in the 4th was terrible. In the last 3 games WJ has been outscored 42-14 in the 2nd half. But this isn't a trend from just the last 3 games. WJ rolled up a 26-0 lead on Brookhaven earlier in the year in the 1st Q and ended up winning by that score. Injuries have killed WJ as well. They returned 4 starters from last years O-line, but only 1 has played the last 2 games. Also 4 starters on the D line, and 2 are left. The starting center was a bakup last year. He has been out the last 2 games and his backup was the kid who passed away 2 weeks ago. So WJ hs started sophmores at center and left tackle and they have been exploited in each game. I saw 2 WJ wr's limping in the 4th of this game. If there is anything good about this its that WJ will return a bunch of players with a lot of playing time and some starting experience next year. Also, the special teams coverage is terrible. Punter can kick them high but can't seem to get most beyond about 30 yards (literally had a 1 yard punt against Laurel and a 6 yard one against WC tonight). South 5A is wide open. There are 5 teams with a chance. Picayune plus all 4 from region 3. Interesting observation. Since the current 5A was created prior to the 09 season, there has not yet been a repeat South State Champion. 09 Wayne County (beat Moss Point) 10 Brookhaven (beat west jones) 11 Picayune (beat Pearl River Central I think) 12 Pascagoula (beat Peal River Central) 13 Picayune (beat Laurel I think) 14 Laurel (beat Wayne County) 15 Wayne County (beat Laurel) 16 Laurel (beat I think wayne county) 17 Hattiesburg (beat Laurel) 18 West Jones (beat Picayune) 19 Picayune (beat West Jones) 20 West Jones (beat Pascagoula) Lets go back further. To when most of these teams were in 4A, all the way back to 2002. 02 D'Iberville (beat George County) 03 Wayne County (beat West Jones) 04 Brookhaven (beat West Jones) 05 Wayne County (beat West Jones) 06 Wayne County (beat Terry) 07 Laurel (Beat Moss Point) 08 D'Iberville (beat West Jones) Only Wayne County has repeated. LOL Seriously though our region was the toughest with the top teams as I have ever seen and I been watching all these teams play for many moons, Laurel and Hattiesburg are huge at the line of scrimmage on both sides. Brookhaven is huge everywhere and hasn't been challenged in weeks so they are coming in fresh. I get the impression that Pierson is sand bagging with their offense . He's going to unveil something totally new for the playoffs. He does it every year. There won't be no easy outs in that group from top to bottom. yeah i agree. i just had to give you a little friendly grief for that. i am rarely surprised by anything that happens in the playoffs ... it all depends who shows up on a given night which makes it so interesting as a fan.
