TOL

How come nobody in the state seems to be able to accurately track TOL on their scoreboard?

It couldn't be easier to track. watch the officials, they signal every one of them.

I know some teams do not have the  scoreboard/electrical working to do this but everyone's facilities are getting to be so nice these days and we can't track this? why not?

somebody slap a little box on top of that scoreboard and give me an app on my phone to enter time outs left and it will be right at every game i go to. no charge.

seriously, i can see people having issues keeping time but you only have to be able to count to 3 to do this.

Tib, you know the only thing they keep up with at Picayune is the time on the clock, the quarter, and the score.  All that other junk like timeouts, down and distance, ball on x yard line is just there because the scoreboard was made with it on there for some reason.  I think they could probably get something cheaper if they left all of that off.

i am always interested in the timeouts. they are a strategic aspect of the game. again, it is 1, 2, and 3. that's simpler than the down marker but nobody can handle it.

re down and distance. anyone remember our Petal game where they had 5 downs a while back.

I don't remember it, but I do remember Dodd talking about it to my boy.  I bet you could see the smoke coming out his ears that day.  I sorely miss Dodd Lee on the sidelines.

We keep track of it, but only because its a student running the board and not an official. Some officials won't even keep up with down and distance on the board. Officials only keep up with main clock time and play clock here. I guess I get it. Lots of stadiums have varying equipment and they might not know how to operate it all. On the other hand.. some are just lazy. What gets me is when an official has a power trip and wants control of the whole thing and then refuses to operate anything but the time.

I have not seen how it is operated.. But how could you not understand how to operate it once you have seen it? I assume there is a switch or a button and it counts to 3. no? These days it might have a keyboard and you have to fill in a box - again, 0-1-2-3.  You don't even need all your fingers.

What more do you need to know? somebody sits there and watches the official after every play. The official points to the offense or the defense or himself whenever someone calls a timeout.

The only issue I could see here is that student they stick in there is on her phone and has no clue which team is which when they signal it. This has got to be about as hard as making toast.

I think most any student could do it. Like I said, we keep up with it.  I'm saying some officials who run the clock just refuse to do anything more than the minimum.

I got ya. and those particular officials can kiss my ticket-buying butt.

The officials assigned to run the clocks only do 3 jobs. One runs the game clock and score. The other runs the play clock. Everything else is the responsibility of the home game administration. All officials on the field keep up with time outs called by a team and the head coach is informed of the number of time outs he has left as well as the number of time outs the other team has.
