  1. The Port City Bowl is now going to be played at Gulfport and Harrison Central. Harrison Central is playing Ridgeland at Harrison Central, game time is 7:00 p.m. Gulfport is playing Gautier at Gulfport, game time is 7:30 p.m. The games were to start at 5:30 p.m., both played at Gulfport , but due to the heat, the AD's and Coaches agreed to move the games to the above locations and times.
  2. PRC will play their blue/white spring game on Monday, May 22 at 6 pm followed by a quarter of JV/9th game at PRCC.
  3. The answer is no, they cannot move to follow their coach to a new school. From the 2022-23 MHSAA Handbook: 3.1.5 A student transferring from one member school to another shall be ruled ineligible for one calendar year from the date of enrollment because of “undue influence” if any of the following situations exist: 1. It is determined that a coach, including non-faculty, of the receiving school coached an out of-school team on which the athlete played within the past twelve (12) months. 2. It is determined that a coach, including non-faculty, at the receiving school acted as a private athletic instructor for the transferring athlete, regardless of whether the coach was paid for his/her services and/or expertise. 3. It is determined the transferring student played on an out-of-school team made up of a simple majority of students from the receiving school. 4. A student transfers to a new school within one calendar year of the relocation of his/her coach, including non-faculty, to that school. 3.1.6 Article 3.1.5 (1-4) shall be enforced even in the event the student made a bona-fide move into the receiving school’s attendance zone.
  4. St. Stanislaus and Bay High play for the Crab Trap trophy.
  5. Only Coast teams playing tonight are Jeff Davis County vs. St. Stanislaus and Pass Christian vs. Green County. Both games are at 7 pm. The Picayune game against Long Beach is on Friday. Next week, all remaining Coast teams play on Thursday at 7 pm. If any Coast team is in the first round of the playoffs, they will play on Friday. The change in playing dates were mandated by the MHSAA.
  6. Probably not going to happen. The MHSAA Officials Handbook states that "Any official that does not report an ejection can be fined $100.00 and suspended if not paid within one (1) week." Most football officials don't have that kind of money to pay for failing to report an ejection. An no official wants to be suspended.
  7. He would be out the entire next game. Then the next game, he can come back after he sits the fraction of the time he was ejected. If he was ejected 4 minutes into the quarter, he would be able to come back in after the 4 minutes of the 1st quarter of the next game. So in this example, he sits the entire next game and 4 minutes of the game after.
  8. This is the rule from the MissHSAA handbook for 2022-23. "Any student ejected for fighting or “flagrant” unsportsmanlike conduct (Example, but not limited to cursing an official, fan, etc.; spitting, obscene gestures) shall be ineligible for a minimum of the equivalent of next football game (1 game plus the fraction of a quarter that the player was ejected) or next track meet or the equivalent of two contests plus the fraction of the period that the participant was ejected in any other sport (2 games in basketball; 2 games in softball and baseball; 2 games in soccer."
  9. The MissHSAA executive committee and its directors make the rules for Mississippi that are allowed by NFHS. The rule making process for the NFHS is set forth on their website.
  10. Whether you are a fan or not, referees have nothing to do with rules that are passed by the NFHS or the Mississippi HSAA. Referees enforce the rules as directed by NFHS and Mississippi HSAA. If coaches don't like the rule, they can vote to change it. Referees don't have that option. In games where the score gets one sided, the referees work harder to keep the players from fighting and other things young folks do when they get frustrated. Coaches still have the ability to agree to a running clock, shortening periods, etc., but they must do that before the second half. Referees are easy targets, but you need to direct your opinion to the rule makers.
  11. East Central, the number 3 ranked 5A team plays Picayune, the number 1 ranked 5A team this Friday at Picayune. Who wins this one?
  12. One of the Long Beach players broke the 40 yard line before the kick. A free kick infraction was called. That foul kills the play. That caused the re-kick.
  13. The call is fIrst touching. It is not a foul. The spot is marked with a bean bag, not a flag. The two balls were the kicked ball being thrown out from the spot of the end of the run and the other ball coming in from the offense to be placed at the spot of first touching.
  14. Long Beach was not given a free 8 yards. On the kickoff, the ball was first touched by Vancleave at the Vancleave 48 yard line. The ball was placed at the spot of first touching. No Oh Boy moment.

The officials assigned to run the clocks only do 3 jobs. One runs the game clock and score. The other runs the play clock. Everything else is the responsibility of the home game administration. All officials on the field keep up with time outs called by a team and the head coach is informed of the number of time outs he has left as well as the number of time outs the other team has.
  16. Providing tobacco products to persons under the age of 21 in Mississippi is a crime. Possession of tobacco products on school property is a crime. The actions of the coach, if true, could also be charged as contributing to the neglect and delinquency of a minor. The MSHASS could impose their own penalties on the team and school. Not a wise move by the coach.
  17. MSHSAA and NFHS has made the number 0 a legal number this year. Has anyone heard how the coaches are going to issue the number? Not going to use it, give it to a special player?
  18. Moss Point vs. St. Stanislaus, Vancleave vs. Pascagoula, Gautier vs. Ocean Springs, St. Martin vs. Long Beach, Pass Christian vs. Hancock, Biloxi vs. George County, and PRC vs. Bay High. All on August 19 at 7:30 p.m.
  19. According to the MHSAA website, the championship games will be played at USM.
  20. This has nothing to do with "officials". The State determined that when a 35 point difference occurred at or after half time, there will be a running clock.
  21. Starting this year, the MHSAA has determined that if a team is a head by 35 points at the half or thereafter, there will be a running clock. The coaches are not consulted and they cannot agree to ignore the running clock. The only time the clock would stop is for time outs, injuries, penalty enforcement, and scores.
  22. Friday scores. St. Martin 28 - Haynes (La.) 0; St. Martin 7 - Bay High 0; Bay High 0 - Haynes (La.) 0. Saturday scores. Pass Christian 35 - North Forrest 6.
  23. Picayune gets a Hattiesburg crew and Ocean Springs gets a Laurel crew.
  24. Long Beach is open. Coach Ross has retired.
