Wildcats1980
I drove by MGCCC today and seen George Co and DIberville having a NFL OTA style practice. Also heard Ocean Springs went to Theodore and done the same thing. Neither teams have shoulder pads but they do have spider pads on under their jerseys. I know they are saying it’s a team camp and that’s how they are getting around practicing early, but I just don’t agree with it. Some schools don’t have the money to take their teams to another campus to practice for a whole week. It’s creating an unfair advantage for these schools. When you call Lonnie at the state office and ask him about it, he says they don’t care as long as teams don’t have shoulder pads on. My question is why have a official first day of practice set Aug 8th if you are gonna let some teams hold full practices two weeks before everyone else. s1nglewing
FCA's been doing camps similar to this for years. And you're right - it does confer an advantage to teams attending over those who have no camp.

I am sure George Co and Diberville broke the bank traveling all the way to Perkinston for a team camp. lol
RMcCormick66
I drive by Columbia on the way home from work and they already practicing after school. I don't see what the big deal is.

So yes it’s not cheap with room and board included.

I have a problem with Misshsaa not enforcing their rules.
Old Golfer
Didn’t think they could start practice until August.
pancho
I have seen some serious OTA's going on this week at two 4A schools myself but no pads were on.
Chunky6617
There’s summer practice all summer. It’s weird though because they recommend 20 practices before the first game. Well it’s pretty much impossible to get 20 practices in by august 26th if you don’t start until the 1st or 2nd week of august. FBdude
MHSAA is a joke when it comes to giving teams time to get ready. But as long as there are no shoulder pads on it’s legal. Most schools probably practice without pads throughout summer anyway. MHSAA claims to care about player safety but you can’t start “practice” until Aug 8 and then Bam jamboree 11 days later and game a week after. Meanwhile MAIS started practice this week.
