rebmus
That's a huge move by the B10 to keep up with the SEC expanding to 16 teams adding Texas and Oklahoma. A lot of talk was made about moving to 4 "super conferences", maybe just 2 "super conferences?" Is the SEC/B10 moving to 20-24 teams each and break away from the NCAA rules? Dawg83
Yeah the PAC 12 and the Big 12 have greatly diminished in value in the last year. I personally liked the old days better when all the conferences made geographic sense and were like minded schools. You start moving Mizzou to the SEC East and West Virginia to the Big 12 and it just turned into a bit of a joke. TV rights deals are the driving force here and I don’t see how anybody but the SEC and Big 10 are winners here. The SEC has that mega deal with ESPN starting in a couple of years and the Big 10 is getting huge money from FOX and will probably replace the SEC on CBS. Nobody else is going to get anything close to the TV money that those two leagues are going to bring in.
Rebel Bert
Herbstreit says 2 conferences of 50 to 55 Finebaum says it can't go much larger 40 at the most, Oregon, Washington, Clemson, North Carolina, are on the clock, Notre Dame can choose between BIG 10/SEC. I think 2 by 20 or 24 and that's max. 33 Notre Dame 34 Oregon 35 Washington 36 Stanford 37 Colorado 38 Arizona 39 Arizona State 40 Clemson 41 North Carolina 42 Miami 43 Florida State 44 Virginia 45 Virginia Tech 46 Oklahoma State 47 Texas Tech 48 Utah Or we are going 4 Super Conferences: BIG12/PAC12 Merger currently 22 - who leaves for BIG 10/SEC to 20/24 ACC adds 2 but not necessarily Notre Dame
Bulldogs4
I posted this on the CFB thread yesterday: Heard a blip Wednesday about UCLA/USCw moving to the B1G.Interesting to say the least. Honestly it seems weird like back when Atlanta and New Orleans were in the NFC West with LA and SF. The geography is flat out bizarre. But LA to Pullman is 1,110 miles. So I guess going 1,500-2,000-2,500 miles for games is not much more relatively speaking. The general consensus seemed what will Notre Dame do going forward? pancho
Notre Dame wants the added revenue but may lose some luster when they suddenly have a tougher football schedule and don't win as much.
Bulldogs4
Notre Dame will always be a bell cow. The B1G makes the most sense for them but if they were to come to the SEC….That would be a WOW!!! Talk about some great match ups across several sports.
Rebel Bert
Just listening to sports writer from LA Times part of the deal of UCLA/USC move will be BIG 10 will pursue Notre Dame. Who will Notre Dame bring with them. Then who will be invited with Notre Dame. At this point it will be 2 super conferences of 18 divided by 3 divisions of 6. Each school will have 5 division games, 2 games from each of the other 2 divisions equalling 9 conference games. That will be a 1970s-90s style NFL setup. Division champions and runner ups advance to 12 team playoff.
Rebel Bert
University of California Regents are meeting to stop UCLA from moving to the BIG 10. Something about the board itself can be sued if they don't take action.
