Yeah outside of George County, Pascagoula and Gautier (until Irving leaves) it is not very good. Will be a solid baseball region though.

You never know what kind of team Goula will have. They can go from 3-8 to 9-2 playing for south state and the following year go 2-9. But those 3 are the best if this goes thru. That would really give West Harrison and Long Beach an outside shot at a playoff berth. With no Wayne County Laurel or Picayune, 6a south would kinda be watered down. Petal West Jones and Hattiesburg would seem to be the strongest teams along with George Co

I think Pascagoula has a complex with 6A or something. Their 3 losing seasons and worst years in the past decade all have come at 6A. 5A, they have consistently been in the hunt and competing. What they do with Pearl will be interesting. Putting them in the south bolsters a solid south half in my opinion. I think they would be your favorites right out the gate. Petal is still a mystery to me with a new coach. Although they did just pick up the QB from Biloxi who is supposed to be good. Throw in west Jones, George county, Hattiesburg, Pascagoula and you’ve something similar to what south 5A has been the past few years in my opinion.

The only way I would be in favor of this is if the 7A champ will play the 6A champ in an end of season Miss. High Sch super bowl to determine the best team in the state. I guess in some years the 5A champ my have a legitimate claim but unfortunately that would just be too bad. I mean would you really want to call yourself a champion when you really are only the best of 24 teams. That is such a hollow claim in my opinion.

Numbers would be based on 9-12 for 2021-2022 though I believe. Because that is what the school population is at that time.

Are you kidding me? You win 7A with these teams you’re gonna have to be pretty damn good to do it. It’s really no different from how it’s always been for the bigger schools. Idk why people are acting like this is such a huge change for the big boys. It’s not.

NE Mississippi Daily Journal says reclassification will not take place until 2023-24 school year. It goes on to state the vote was tabled till April to allow for director to work out the districts as to how they will look. I am guessing he will have to request those October numbers for this school year 21-22 to be accurate or use the old ones.

That article was written Thursday after Brandon Shields broke MHSAA was proposing 7 classes. Tyler Cleveland released article yesterday quoting MHSAA Director so I would personally put more stake in his article regarding that.

Sometimes they spin these stories the way they want you to read them. Either way director has to I am sure present a final draft for the vote. I think some schools will still travel either way they go.

Clarion Ledger says they will use last year's numbers to see where everyone falls under the 7 class plan. It will not go in to affect until 23-24 school year if passed.

That article was published Thursday before Tyler Cleveland’s SBlive report on Friday. It also says “could be” put in for 2023-2025 reclassification. Lot of speculation there. I just do not see Tyler Cleveland writing that article and quoting MHSAA director and it not be true. Media reports are somewhat unreliable at times though I know.

I just think they want to see the regions as to how they payout. They have to know there will be travel in regions. It may be less travel for some and first time travel for others pending the coast and DeSoto County numbers. They may go with it now or wait who knows.

don't a lot of teams already have difficulty you will have to find 6 scheduling OOC opponents?  If this goes thru they will have to find 6.

I posed this very question/though and the rebuttal to that I was told is that teams can schedule more geographically close games with teams in their area, allow for classic games and fit in out of state opponents if a team wants.

Not if you have teams close to you, teams that want to play you, or money for to play teams to play you. Those categories should fill out the schedule.

Your always going to coach x that won't play coach y because he's looking for a win not to get blown. Your always going to have that always will.
