I've watched a few OG games and I've seen all of OS games. I think the two teams are very similar. I keep waiting for OS to have to play their starters all 4 quarters but really they haven't been tested late in a game other than the first game of the season against Clinton. No one has slowed this offense down yet but if anyone knows how to slow down a good offense, it may by OG who sees one everyday in practice.  OG will be the best team OS has faced no doubt but I can't go against OS at home. I agree with the people above who've said the last team with the ball may win! I'll take OS at home in a shoot out!

Definitely gonna have to respond to getting punched in the mouth by the defending state champs. It’ll be a fun one.

Yeah, it’s hard to teach a teenager how to handle the pressure of the playoffs. O. S. is hoping that good coaching, like they’ve had all year with Pennock, will have them prepared, along with last week’s experience. On the other hand, the Hounds have been able to get their offense running out of the blocks every game, and getting the early lead has allowed the defense to play a little more bend, not break type of ball. Obviously, turnovers and penalties will figure in as well, and the home crowd might help a little.

Thats the one thing that I am interested to see if it possibly happens. How will Ocean Springs respond if they possibly get down in a 14-0 hole early. Will they hit the panic button and play tight or will they stick to their game plan and be able to settle down? One thing is for certain, trailing 14-0 in a playoff game is totally different than trailing by a 14-0 score in the regular season.

All fair/valid points on OS's lack of continuous experience vs. OG in the playoffs(not to mention, WINNING in the postseason).

I think having Pennock is key for OS with his experience coaching in the grinder of 6A in that part of the state at several different schools.  He is a premier play-caller and has assembled a very good staff around him.

But they're gonna be up against it Friday night, facing a different level of skill and athleticism unseen so far this season.

In last week’s playoff game against Pearl, the Greyhounds were indeed punched pretty hard in the mouth. On the second play of the game, Pearl’s talented QB ran sixty yards for a touchdown, taking the momentum and quieting the home crowd. Welcome to the playoffs, boys! So what happened next? Two plays later, the fastest player on the field, O.S. quarterback Bray Hubbard goes around the end, scoring to tie the game. The next time the score was tied, O.S. scored just before halftime, just after halftime, and the game was a rout. I think that shows they won’t hit the panic button. So… what happens when Oak Grove gets down by 14?

If OG gets down 14 or 21 early they will not panic. They will continue to play and are very much capable of coming back.

I doubt that either team jumps on the other early (possible but not likely).

I look for it to be competitive through three quarters or so with OG pulling away in the 4th to win by 17-21 points.

Should be entertaining for the fans though.

Congrats to Hubbard Mr Football 6A

Thank you, Oak Grove! Classy move.

I’ve got to admit that I hesitated to post this myself, cause players like to play against the best, and your players might be a little more motivated. You really should learn his back story, with losing his Mother, a teacher  and how his family, including athletic director Mark, was embraced by the school system and town. Winners no matter what happens Friday night.

Did not know his story, just read about the young man. Great kid and incredible family its hard not to pull for him.

I plan on going to this game if I can get away.
Ocean Springs only use the gofans app tickets to get in. I have been a lot of places and the few times I’ve been there the most snobbish , rude, unhelpful, look down their nose at you people I’ve encountered. Met a couple of good people in the stands but for the most part too aloof for my taste.

Causey is underrated as a coach. Ocean better get ahead and and make Oak Grove play from behind. If it comes down to a back and forth, Causey knows how to read that and will manage the clock for his offense to get the ball last. I think this game is where Ocean Springs defense gets exposed and Ocean Springs season comes to and end.

The old home side is now the visitor side FYI.

watch your phone I will holler at you there before the game. I know you are in a trance when the game is going on, lol. I’m the same way with Wayne County

Really? Since when? Haven’t been there in about 7 years.

I’m still on the fence about making the trip. Got some prior engagements that may get in the way of being there live.

Damn, how will we ever get over that nasty trash talking there! Classy O.G. fans like OGwarriorbandmom above congratulate the opposition qb and learn how the kids, school, and town rallied around his family after his Mom’s cancer death, and the next post is about how “snobby, rude, and unhelpful” everybody is down here  after coming into town a few times. Man, stick to football and let the adults talk about the beautiful beaches, historic downtown, restaurants and music, and especially the hospitality in one of the best places in the state. A lot like Oak Grove, as a matter of fact. The rest of y’all come on down early and let us prove what I’m saying. I’m going out deep in the morning, and I’ll bet this guy couldn’t catch a fish if I hooked it for him.

It was rebuilt prior to last season and they modernized and enlarged (considerably so) the new home side and concessions area.  It's very a nice overall high school stadium now.

Does the train still go by the stadium much during the game. I remember one year Hattiesburg played there and it seemed like a train went by every 15 minutes.

Thanks for proving my point. Don't bring bandman into this he's good people, I probably spend more time in the areas you highlighted  than you do.  Nothing really raised my hackles with what you wrote except for the part about fishing. I usually don't  flaunt but in this case I have to. I've caught largemouths all over Mexico and Florida. I've caught peacocks in the canals of Miami, in the Black River of Brazil and Lake Gatun Panama. I own a house in Panama twenty minutes from Pedregal and Boca Chica. Giant dogtooth, snook and rooster fish around the countless islands in the Pacific there. Untouched, fish all day and never see another boat on the water. So don't tell me about fishing.  What I said is one hundred percent true, it's my experience with the football gameday. Sorry if it hurts.

Good luck friday night. Ocean Springs is a good team and attacks the whole field on offense. I will say if they make it past Friday night I think you will represent the south in the finals. Tracy Lampley coaches for Ocean Springs  , he's a great Wayne County War Eagle..

Good comeback! I’m jealous over your fishing experiences. I do a little down here, and limited on some big snapper yesterday. A fisherman is hard to argue with, so I’ll back down and talk football. It just gets me personally when people talk bad about my Ocean Springs kinfolk and friends. Maybe spend some more time with the right crowd and get to know us better.
on the field, you’re right that this offense hits from every angle, with the qb leading the way. His short passes and ball control hitches set up the longer stuff where he’s improved a mile since last year. Then, any pressure on him puts him running, and he’s the fastest guy on the field in every game I’ve seen. Running back goes for 130 a game to go with Hubbard’s 100. As usual, it’s that defense trying to stop O.G.  I still haven’t seen enough film or heard whether Barnett runs much in their offense. Small but fast only works when the O.S. defense tackles well, and they have done better against weaker opponents. Good luck, and travel safely.

Barnett is a passer not a runner. If y’all get to him then the advantage will be yours. He will run some but he lets the playmakers do most of that. Our defense is quick but gives every team 2-3 big plays it seems because of the style of defense we play.  Very aggressive. That’s why we give up points in a game primarily. Not many teams have long sustained drives against our D. I think our lines on both sides will give OS challenges they have not experienced this year.  I think that will be the big difference in the game.

Good scouting report! I’m thinking these teams are a lot alike. The O.S. defense is also aggressive at the line with stunts and blitzes to keep pressure off of a small d line vulnerable to power runs. Athletic QBs have burned them with runs, but their speed makes up for lack of size. Both teams should be set up to come from behind if needed. O.S. wide receivers are tall, run great routes, and all four can break up the field. Three interceptions from Hubbard all year  might be the biggest stat. This ought to be fun! I’’ll be on an airplane at kickoff. Wouldn’t mind some of you O.G. fans posting updates on here. Y’all drive down safely and enjoy the game.

Ocean Springs by 17.

All right now, y’all getting ahead of yourselves. My Greyhounds have scored at will  in every game, but if they can’t slow down O.G., it’s going to be hard to beat em by 17. Could depend on who scores first and is able to play with a lead, rushing the passer with less concern for the run. I’d take O.S. winning by a field goal.
