I do not have a ton of faith in Gautier in the coaching department, but their kids are hungry and are super athletic. Plus, I enjoy rooting for a coast team. maroontide06 Posted November 22, 2023 Share Posted November 22, 2023 Even though the North Half Championship is at Clarksdale and Clarksdale won the first bout over West Point, I just don't see them doing it again. Even if West Point were to lose again to Clarksdale, I still think the North Half Champion winds up being the 5A State Champion. As far as the Gautier-Laurel rematch goes, I don't really want to touch it with a 10 foot pole. That game is going to be a mess. NoWammies Posted November 22, 2023 Share Posted November 22, 2023 That West Point win seemed to have given Clarksdale a lot of momentum and confidence cuz they’ve stepped their game up ever since then and the defense has played lights out only giving up 13 total points in the five games after it. Some might have to do with the competition they played after but the eye test having seen them twice since then says they’ve improved as well. I still think West Point wins the rematch but it should be a competitive game. I don’t see West Point missing as many tackles as they did last game that led to big plays. Drives me bonkers that if MHSAA had of remained at 6 classes Laurel would have been probably 4th in district and neither them nor Gautier would even still be in the playoffs. And West Jones and Picayune playing for south 5A would be the de facto state championship.
